Skins Causes Child Pornography Controversy!

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooTV NewsMTVLegal Matters

Yet another reason why this show should have never been re-made for American audiences.

Now that the US adaptation of the hit British series Skins has debuted on MTV, the network bosses are reportedly concerned that some of explicit content involving the teenaged actors could be breaking the country's child pornography laws, which is described in the states as any "visual depiction of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct," or an images of nude children if it is "significantly sexually suggestive."

In a future episode, the character of Chris, played by 17-year-old Jesse Carere, is depicted running down the street naked, and features a story about him taking erectile dysfunction meds, and the bosses at the network are apparently so concerned that they held an emergency meeting Tuesday to discuss the issue with the show's producers.

Meanwhile, spokesperson Jeannie Kedas says:

"Skins is a show that addresses real-world issues confronting teens in a frank way. We review all of our shows and work with all of our producers on an ongoing basis to ensure our shows comply with laws and community standards. We are confident that the episodes of Skins will not only comply with all applicable legal requirements, but also with our responsibilities to our viewers."

This is EXACTLY what we were so concerned about!

The premiere episode essentially took the original and remade it shot for shot, didn't even bother to ADAPT the British slang, style, OR school system - all of which was just forced and awkward - and then watered down the stuff that they legally couldn't show on TV here.

And we're not going to even START on the swears being bleeped out.

Just mortifying to sit through.

If they want to make this authentic, honest, and RELEVANT to American teens, then they need to just ignore the original series and put the characters in realistic situations that make them culturally relatable.

Who cares about the nudity? If you can't show it here, then don't.

Focus instead on just making it GOOD.

Thoughts?? What did U think of the series premiere of Skins??

Take it off the air! They shouldn't glamorize teen sex, drug and alcohol use. Jersey Shore glorifies bad behavior enough as it is….

  2. 2

wow! well said. skins on mtv was horrible!!! it was completely an unrealistic portrayal of american teens.

  3. 3

    ughhhhh !
this is exactly how i felt.
i dont understand why they made an american version of this show, because england has such a different culture then us, it just makes the american one look stupid.
all thats really different is the accents and the clothes. they should have just shown the original on mtv and bleeped out the swears in it.

    stupid, stupid conservative america.

  4. 4

I agree with you 100% I cringed the whole time whilst watching this, I had to stop half way through and pull out season one of the UK version to wash away the trauma of watching the U.S one.

  5. 5

  6. 6

This is a publicity ploy to garner more attention for a new show they've pinned high expectation on. MTV and VIACOM surely had their team of lawyers consult and cover their asses before airing this unoriginal piece of trash. People will want to watch it to see what the big deal is.

  7. 7

Only ONE word was bleeped out.
    I loved the premier.

  8. 8

c" monn , eople mtv skins usa sucks!
luv skins uk more real on tv series
    isnt the same right !

  9. 9

  10. 10

Terrible show. Bad writing, bad acting & glorifying the shit-headed behavior that lots of teens display already because of awful, irresponsible parenting. It really is one of the worst ones ever. Why is Mtv still on the air anyhow? Everyone knows it's the crappiest cable channel around. Not like in the cool days when Music television was comprised of actual music on television.

  11. 11

Why is there a show dedicated to these STD infested losers?

  12. 12

This show sucks the British version is much better.

  13. 13

Just cancel the damn show! The US version is no bueno!

  14. 14

Just auditioned for a series regular on a new MTV pilot..maybe it will be replacing skins? Hmmmmm. Check out www.jessicagarvey.com for more details!

  15. 15

This show was so stupid. It's nothing like real life. Sure teens do drugs and have sex, but this show made it seem like that's all teenagers do.

  16. 16

this is really disturbing. No wonder there are so many drug addicted and/or pregnant kids.
It appears producers would have to have half a brain to make good influences entertaining.

  17. 17

I cant see how they can make this shit work especially when the show memorable moments were so x rated… i just hope they don't bleep it out anymore.. I loved the original awkward horny moments. It was the whole foundation of the show…. Overall the american version is terrible… the choices for actors were really dull.

  18. 18

I will never watch this type of show but condemn the reaction to it because it is this type of nonsense that takes attention away from REAL child abuse and child pornography that proliferates our society. Teens in the 15-17 range are not children, they are young adults. Child porn is about pre-adolescent exploitation. I really wish we'd get over ourselves and focus on the real problems of abuse and not this TV nonsense.

  19. 19

MTV people are idiots……So you're telling me you're going to remake a show which is clearly very adult oriented and now think its too much???Um hello!!!!!!!If you dont want it aired then why did you decide to remake the show on the first place?

  20. 20

This is why I love you Perez…I've been waiting to hear your review of the show and I agree with you completely. It was awful, that dialog WORKED for the British show….but it doesn't work AT ALL for the American version. Also, they should have just put the show on HBO or something so they wouldn't have had to edit it so much.

  21. 21

If they went back to playing music videos THEY WOULDN'T NEED AN EMERGENCY MEETING!

  22. 22

i dont care if they show sex alcool drugs whatever people need to be so closed mind, its the REALITY if you dont watch it on tv you will eventually watch it else where cuz they exist!every teenager is faced nowadays with sex and drugs what do you want to do? lock him in a cave and let him go outside when is 40 y old?.why are parents worried about their kids watching this and people saying should not be aired in the first place ? lets get real HIDING stuff isnt going to solve the problem, a good education = maturity = seing even the sickest things but choose NOT TO DO IT end of story

  23. 23

Hahaha I knew this was going to happen. America has to realize in the UK they are allowed to drink and stuff at 18. And they were 18. America just fails at life.

  24. 24

while i am HUGE fan of skins uk, i must say i did like the american version. hear me out. they did imitate the entire cast and first episode, almost exactly as uk did it. however, i heard for the rest of the season the episodes are original, so it should be interesting to see a different spin on the show. the beeping was SO annoying, and it was really "watered down" as you said, i did like the different characters, such as tea, although angie was a terrible actress. at least they knew they would never be able to replace maxxie, cassie, etc. all i am saying is it'll never compare to uk, but i will continue to watch and see where they take the characters.

  25. 25

You hit the nail on the head there Perez!
This should be taken off the air. Honestly it sounds more like glorifying sex drugs and booze to teens and that's not good.

  26. 26

(Oh, Perez, naked boys would have been ok, I guess,,,)

  27. 27

I thought it was boring it was hard to get into.

  28. 28

leave it to the yanks to ruin everything great in the world. skins is my favourite television series and watching the american version of it was like watching your newborn being stabbed in front of you. sh*t actors, sh*t acting, sh*t american dialect, cassie (hannah murray) was turned into katy? and effy was ugly as f*ck… it was a bloody cosmic fail. can't wait to see how you lot f*ck up the x factor now.

  29. 29

Hahah, you guys over there are nutty.

  30. 30

At 17, showing your butt is "child porn". At 18, smearing someone's brain across the ground in Afghanistan is an honor. America is fucked up.

  31. 31

Wow. I've never seen the originial but this remake sounds awful. How lazy can you be? MTV should stop immediately. Maybe they should just export the originial over to HBO.

  32. 32

Once in a odd while, you give opinions that are worth-reading. This is it. Well said.

  33. 33

It was insanely boring and not at all like the UK version-lacked the charm, originality and soul of the original. As an American, watching the UK version you can definitley see the cultural difference. But the American version was not an accurate portrayal of how teens act or speak. It was way too fake!

  34. 34

it is horrible! I don't know why they are freaking out about the sex stuff I mean they use to air undressed which was all about sex and a lot of the stories were about high school kids. I think if they made the show more different then it would be better b/c I would not constantly be comparing it to the original

  35. 35

The US version is HORRIBLE. The characters are so unlikable. It's badly written, badly acted, badly filmed…where do I stop???

  36. 36

Funny, though, the US version is not even American. It's a British series being filmed in Canada with Canadian actors. The only people soooo uptight about sex are Americans. No sex on TV! But you can watch people blowing each others' heads off all day and night. Sick, sick society!

  37. 37

It's shown on Canadian TV without beeping.

  38. 38

And one more thing: a big continuity issue here. Like in the beginning when Tony is walking through the town talking on the phone, the town looks like a big shit hole, a la Detroit or something. Yet the scenes inside the public school made it look super nice (like it doesn't belong in whatever city it takes place in and was only glammed up for TV purposes). Didn't make a lot of sense to me.

  39. 39

Good….I am not missing a thing. That's another reason to keep my hundred bucks and stick with netflix and open air TV. Cable sucks!

  40. 40

What is the point of even adapting this amazing show if they are going to strip it of everything that makes it good? The British version is refreshing because it takes teenagers seriously, and cutting the cursing and nudity and then calling that adapting it is ridiculous. Also, THEY REPLACED MAXXIE!!! Who is hands down the best character on the show (with Tony as a close runner-up).

  41. 41

I will never understand Americans. They have one of the biggest porn industries in the entire world. They have more teen pregnancies than anywhere in the world. They have beauty pageants for children under 5. They are the most obese nation in the world. They cannot understand why they have a problem with violence and yet guns are everywhere. Children are shooting up schools under the influence of anti-depressant medication. Other countries don't seem to have these problems on the scale of the US and yet the US gets its knickers in a knot over a TV show.

  42. 42

I freaking loved Skins, people need to stop being so over-dramatic!!

  43. 43

I love that the adds for this show come on during Teen Mom and 16 and Pregnant. "Teen pregnancy is one hundred percent perventable through abstinence and protection" *Commerical* "YEAH FOR CASUAL SEX, WATCH IT ON MTV!!!"

  44. 44

Re: betty.boop – For someone who seems to dislike America so much, it's interesting that your screen name is Betty Boop. After all, Betty Boop is an american cartoon based on american actress Clara Bow.

  45. 45

As for the show, I found MTV's to be horrific. And I refuse to believe that this is how teens behave. Because if it is true, then society has truly raised a new crop of self centered, impulsive, soul less people too busy with self gratification to achieve anything special.

  46. 46

America doesn't do anything controversial well. It just sanitizes it, packages it for all sorts of viewers, and sugar coats it with some sort of message ('crack is whack'?). Frankly, it won't be long before this is cancelled, because if it isn't Showtime or HBO, it's ridiculously cookie-cutter and censored. And it's not just words, but themes. Why can't they express certain points without it being pornography? And why are we supposed to give a damn if he's 17 and nobody cares (and if anyone does, uh, DON'T WATCH!)

  47. 47

Re: Soapwitch – I agree. People talk all of this smack about the US, when they wouldn't have half of the stuff on their TV or half of the technology in their hospitals if it wasn't for us.

  48. 48

Hated the MTV version, love the UK version. Yes it does show sex and drugs among teens, but because they had real talent in the UK version especially season 1 & 2. The show showed some of the deeper emotional issues teens deal with and that they deal with them through sex and drugs sometimes.

  49. 49

I didn't watch the show, but seeing the commercial for it was enough for me. Jersey Shore I like because it's mostly "reality" tv. Such a stupid stereotype for teens, and not to mention how extremely unrealistic it is… honestly not how teenagers behave… What were they thinking?

  50. 50

The U.S. version FAILED at every level. The casting was horrible– seriously you have a whole entire nation of talented young actors and these are the zero charisma hacks you chose. And the show is completely void of any relevance to the American teenager. Where is the suburban setting that kids who rebel yearn to destroy? And what the f*ck was up with putting in random "slang" words that were so foreign to any kids I know? Seriously? The direction was deplorable. The whole episode was completely disconnected and I can't see any American teen identifying or relating to the characters on screen. MTV totally missed the mark on this one which is a shame because all the kids in my school are watching the UK version instead– and loving every second of it. Maybe this whole "controversy" is just a ploy to pique the interest of people, but even if someone is curious- anyone who watches will realize how bad SKINS USA SUCKS ! ! ! ! ! !

  51. adt says – reply to this

God, the MTV Skins was fucking HORRIBLE. Granted, I love the British version and MTV does a really good job at making things really, really shitty. But honestly, it was just appalling.

First off, I live in Baltimore (where this version is apparently "set"), and them thinking they could pass Toronto off as Baltimore was just insane. Not to mention the acting was absolutely atrocious.

And it wasn't shot-for-shot. They did change things for the worse. Like when Cassie was introduced. They pretty much just changed the order of things that occurred. I can't get over how bad it was.

  52. adt says – reply to this

Re: Not my gumdrop buttons! – It's supposed to be SET in Baltimore, but was actually filmed in Toronto. Because they're so similar, apparently….

  53. 53

i agree, i dont think they shouldve used the same story line. im from america, and i am a huge fan of the UK version. but once i found out it was coming out in america, i need it would be a hot mess of a show. for atleast the first season, if it makes it past that. the show is based on london, the school system, the personalities, the slang (for instance "skins" is commonly known as joint papers.) so they might at well call it papers over here hahaha. it just doesnt make sense, it was a mistake to begin with. just keep doin the uk version, and put all your effort in that. if people in america wanna watch it, they will. just like i did. we have the internet lol.

  54. 54

    Re: PlayingTheAngel

You're kidding right? Most technology DOES NOT come out of the US. As for your hospitals. You have the WORST health care in the world. Period! I hate to break it to you, but the US is a laughing stock at the moment. Sarah Palin would not even get a look in politically in any other country in the world, but in the good old USA she is a contender. I cannot believe that you guys still think you are the centre of the universe. Do you realise that Australia was one of the few countries that did not slide into recession? That's because we actually elect people who can govern rather than idiots! You wont find people losing their houses or livelihoods here because they happen to get sick and don't have private health insurance. You don't have whole suburbs of beggars here. America sucks. You guys are the only ones who don't realise it!

  55. 55

I love the original series. MTV really ruined it. The original one is so amazing!

  56. 56

Re: betty.boop – alot of what u said it true, im american. ill admit that, u dont gotta be so rude and hateful about it….. :/

  57. 57

Since when is anything MTV did supposed to be good anymore? They churn out $hit and trashy staged faked reality shows. WHy did anyone expect anything different?

  58. 58

Re: betty.boop – "You have the WORST health care in the world" Assuming that you are an educated person, how can you say that?? Certainly not the best health-care system, but far from the worst in the entire world.
I love how so many of your comments are about how terrible America is yet you're on a website that almost entirely focuses on the American entertainment industry. For someone who is so appalled by the USA, you seem awfully interested in talking about it about a GOSSIP WEBSITE. If you have something that you truly believe to have substance try not being so rude next time, it is very unnecessary =]

  59. 59

Re: Scotch Love – i beg to differ pal - it's not bad writing. It just isn't relatible to you americans. We don't share the same culture - the first 2 series of skins reminds me of my teens, not because I had bad parenting, my mother is amazing, it's because in Britain we're more open minded around sex and drugs. We don't have this over the top religious morality that you experience in America - not to say we don't have morales, it's just different kinds that you would experience there. Skins USA will never work.

  60. 60

Skins was crap in the UK too.

  61. 61

Hey, Gunnerbabe…really? That bad, huh? Like watching your new born baby being stabbed? You Brits do hyperbole so well. Anti-American much? BTW, are there any capitals in your life? What an arse.

  62. 62

Re: Dannette22 – Absolutely agree with you! Skins was so relatable for me when it first came out as i was in 6th form - and even if your not doing half of the things what happen in Skins UK, you definately have people around you or know of people who do! It was definately more relatable to UK's teens lives than the Americans. I don't think its possible for the US to try make Skins there own because thier teenagers are so different to Englands - the only way it is going to work is if they change it up massively and try to reflect the average american teenager.
Don't get me wrong, I loved the Office US :-)

  63. 63

Its outrageous! ANYONE defending it has questionable morals and values. Look at that pic! It is way to provocative and looks like a child porn movie! Any parent letting their kid watch this is neglectful.

And, MTV is disgusting for airing this porn!

  64. 64

    Re: curiousred

Jagoff! This is NOT about Americans vs. the world. Or us vs. them! Focus on the real issue MORON!

  65. 65

this was a terrible idea, they should have never made it for American audiences. the UK is more comfortable with sexuality than America, and it just shouldn't have been remade.

  66. JCPR says – reply to this

i really liked it a lot! i watched the original skins on netflix and i got bored instantly. but the mtv version is pretty good more interesting for me. stop the bs most teens are having sex and doing drugs. I was one of them when i was in HS back in 2008 which it wasn't that long ago.

  67. 67

    Re: betty.boop
Ha! This coming from the person whos country's most memorable contribution to the world is the boomerang (and don't try to tell me "oh, we invented the refrigerator and wi-fi (etc…) - nobody remembers you for that.)
Everybody knows you for your goddamn Vegemite, koalas, and kangaroos.
And you're saying America is the laughing stock of the world?
They have contributions, mate (and before making a smartass remark regarding such contributions, look up the actual ones, not teen pregnancy (etc…)

  68. 68

This is why I am proud to be British. Yeah Americans can produce some great series, (Friends and Sex and The City, anyone?) but c'mon, leave great British series alone! The first generation of Skins was brilliant, everyone was talking about it, everyone watched it, and everyone LOVED it. The actors were talented, funny and BELIEVABLE. Haven't watched the first episode of the American Skins, but I saw the trailer on Youtube. I was so annoyed that they copied EVERYTHING from the first episode of series 1! That was stupid! The UK and the US have COMPLETELY different cultures! The acting, the casting, everything about it screamed WRONG WRONG WRONG! MTV have gone way down in my expectations (wasn't very high in the first place!) because I thought they would at least produced an okish series, but I was wrong. Anyway, quite impressed Perez actually made a good point, well done.

  69. 69

    Re: Niamh_starzz

This is why you're proud to be "British?" Oh dude if thats what you're proud of, thats just pathetic.

  70. 70

"This is why I am proud to be British. Yeah Americans can produce some great series, (Friends and Sex and The City, anyone?) but c'mon, leave great British series alone! ^^^^^^^ They copied it you Twit because MTV only licensed it you dolt! Don't you know how it works? Duh. And if it was such a hit in that damp island of yours, thats because you're all DRUNK and OBNOXIOUS… ALL THE TIME!

  71. 71

fucking disgusting pieces of shit for putting out this crap

  72. 72

i understand that we have different culture's and maybe its okay for the U.K. but American's have laws and rules because of the sick pedophiles. they should have got someone other than a 17yr old to do that show. Just seeing the commercials for that show i could tell it was going to be too much which is why i decided not to watch. not that im a prude there's movies that you can rent about sex and drugs i don't need to turn on the tv and see it glamourized because it isn't glamorous. that show looked like it belong on some porn channel.
    So very well said perez.

  73. 73

remaking the office, shameless skins, being human and inbetweeners is just sacreligious

  74. 74

people are just scared of the reality of the show. Skins shows what young teens in this day in age are really into and concerned about. for example: alot of teens are being peer pressured into losing their virginity before a certain age and they are also surrounded by drugs of any kind willingly or not. i dont think it qualifies as child pornography. the show is real and shows what teen are really like. people are scared to think that kids could actually be like this in todays society. (what a shocker! teens pressuring teens!)

  75. 75

    Re: ricketycricks

We are leading the world in medical research. Our dollar is now equal to yours because your government took their eye off the ball and led your country down the toilet. We have health care for all citizens regardless of whether they have health insurance. We do not have entire suburbs of beggars and homeless people. Open up your eyes. America is becoming a 3rd world country.

  76. 76

    Re: Soapwitch

You do realise that she is an animation??????

  77. 77

    Re: PlayingTheAngel
    Re: Kayla Pannesi

It's a pity Americans aren't more rude and hateful. Look at where being polite has got you. Sarah Palin was up for election in your country. Do you know how scary that was for other countries to watch? Sarah Palin being in charge of a nuclear capable country? Terrifying!

  78. 78

The English version is terrible, as I'm sure the American version is.
It hardly relates to the lives of teenagers, not the teenagers I know anyway. Yes, there are people who go get drunk, but acting in the way that these characters do? No.
I'm happy to say that I'm eighteen years old, and, although I enjoy a few drinks every now and again, have never been drunk, have never smoked or taken drugs, or slept around with people. Instead I have a stable and happily committed relationship and I can find far more entertaining things to do than fuck my life up.

  79. 79

    Re: betty.boop
So basically what you're telling me is that if it wasn't for natural circumstances that can happen to any economy, your country wouldn't even be a contender on any list regarding healthcare (etc…)
Also, I am none too impressed with your repetetive and non original "facts".
And on that note… it is very presumptuous for you to assume that I am American.

  80. KCala says – reply to this

Skins was hands down the worst show i have seen. I was disgusted. I am mad they even put this shit on TV….A bunch of RECKLESS teenagers who think they are way cooler than they really are ORIGINAL…. Why would any one want to watch some stupid HIGH SCHOOL kids overdose or reck a car. I think anyone that went to high school in the us probably knew people that died that way.
WHO is the target audience ?? and what is the show trying to say to that audience??
I am 19 years old and in college right now i dont have kids and im not an angry parent.. BUT seriously this show pissed me off. I have seen too many kids die doing the things they turned into a light hearted joke. Its not cool and i lost the last bit of respect i had for mtv, Last but defiantly not least the acting was ATROCIOUSLY BAD:/

  81. 81

this show is sick take it off the air

  82. 82

Re: HappyBirthday – EXACTLY. This is the same way Jersey Shore blew up and became huge, because of media hype. They do it on purpose. MTV would not be this stupid. They have lawyers who have checked everything out, no doubt.

  83. 83

i was so excited for that stupid show , and it was corniest thing i've ever seen. nobody talks like that, nobody does things like that, and it was just nothing like anything real teenagers would say/do/wear/etc.

  84. 84

  85. 85

Re: thobora – WHY TAKE IT OFF THE AIR.

  86. 86

Who cares if it's pornographic? The show in general just sucks.

  87. 87

i was watching it and thinking, wow this shit NEVER happens in real life

  88. 88

They should've aired the british version.

  89. 89

i can say this show isn't the best but come on people open your eyes there are tons of teens acting like this it's not like it's a new thing it's just somebody had the balls to show it

  90. 90

I haven't seen the show, but based on the trailer it seems this is a show for parents. I think most parents are totally naive about what is going on with many of our teens today. As a grandmother, I have tried to keep up with the world around me so I will be relevant in the world. I understand not all teens are like the ones in Skins, but know what your children are exposed to in their world.

  91. 91

I think it was good considering it had to adhere to our stupid television constraints, UK skins is much more obscene and whoever is making a fuss about the tame US version needs to STFU

  92. 92

totally agree. the new show was just horrible. some of the actors just don't fit in my opinion. i knew it wasn't going to be as good because of all of the restrictions on our tv's here, but this was just sad.

  93. 93

Re: ejaydubs – thats a good idea. maybe it could work on one of the major movie networks…

  94. 94

I don't know how old all of you are who are saying this show isn't accurate, but im 19 and this show is pretty accurate to what goes on with todays teens. Im not saying every teen is like this but every high school in my area acts like this show portrays us. I thought it was a great show, all my friends relate to this show and everyone around here loves it!

  95. 95

Re: gunnerbabeSkins was only good in the first 2 season. It blows now

  96. 96

To all the British people freaking out, your show does not depict 15 year olds, they are at least 17-19, which is around the age of consent in many states in the US. I hate how you judge us when really your show portrays people at a different age and point in their life. It is ignorant of all of you to compare and call us prudes. The show should have approached the subject by portraying college freshman in the US, which is 17-19. I do not see how all you people are too stupid to see that they did not transfer the age group over correctly.

And it should have never been remade.

Oh and the UK freaked out about Katy and Rihanna's grinding on X Factor, so Brits should stfu. The Northeast of the US is not prudish or religious so stop your annoying stereotyping, it's all I find now that I live in England, you guys stereotype EVERYTHING and still don't understand that the US is diverse and everyone has different beliefs.

When do you draw the line..This need in our world to have the most provocative show and the raciest..Seriously..The need to push the envelope..Our job is to protect our Children not to glamorize the abuse that takes place..Its like MTV has a show about kids indulging in sex and drugs..and they make it look cool and obviously little girls are watching..Then on VH1 you have Dr. Drew trying to help people who lived this life on Rehab..and you see the mess of their lives..Why don't we try making improvements in our young peoples lives and show them a better way instead of feeling this need to fill then with sex, drugs, and violence..WAKE UP AMERICA..am I alone on this..My children are worth more than to be summarized by MTV's "Skins"..I am not stupid enough to believe that they might try or become addicted to any of these things..but I am not going to seal their fate by assuming this is all they can or will do..Why not come out with a show where kids STAND OUT instead of trying to FIT IN..lets encourage that standing up for what is right makes you cooler any day then following the crowd..But I guess that doesn't get ratings (Or does it) My child's worth to me is far more greater than that of MTV's thank the Lord..because other wise there would be NO HOPE!

When comparing both Pilot episodes, yes they are (pretty much) identical, however MTV did change some of the slang of the little rich girl to make it sound as if she was speaking in 90's era american slang, rather than "going wild on drum and bass" and whatnot. While this might not seem like much, the change from the fantastic gay boy, to Tea, the lesbian was a nice choice. You have to remember that they're adapting it for american teenage audiences, and this version does appeal more to US teenagers than the UK version because regardless of common misconception, teenage culture varies from country to country and place to place. The boobs, porn drugs, sex and illicit behavior it's all there. This is what american teenagers do. It's not glamorized. It's us.
