Good Idea, Billboard!

We think this is going to open doors to all kinds of amazing taLent!

Billboard announced this week that they are launching a brand new ranking chart called Uncharted. The idea is to track and rank breakout artist who are found primarily on the Internet.

Taking into account a variety of factors like YouTube clicks, Twitter traffic and even MySpace Music page views (thumbs up to MySpace!), up and coming artists will get exposure through well-known music trade magazine and website. The artists don't have to be unsigned, but they must not have appeared on any of Billboard's other charts.

Amazing! Such an opportunity to expose everyone to amazing new music! We're going to be keeping a very close eye on this!

i think people getting famous off the internet is stupid

the catagory uncharted like you mention is going to bring actual real talent because all the people who are famouse on the internet like in youtube have a amazing voice. I predict massive number of youtube singers and myspace are going to take over this new chart. there a couple of very good singers in youtube who deserve a record contract.

    i love that idea.

there are alot of talented singers out on youtube
that are better than kesha and all the other bullshit "singers" out today

its about time they can get exposure

i can think of like 10 people who should top that chart!

It is a subscription service, so if you pay for it, you could chart. It's embarrassing that Billboard would sully it's brand by taking advantage of artists who are without the backing $ of a major, or even large independent. Gross! And what's really gross is that Perez clearly is getting a paycheck to promote, otherwise he wouldn't have mentioned it, you can trust that. Eh, Perez??? What a disgrace for all involved.

omg Lady Gaga will win this

So how are these artists going to be ranked? Sounds to me like its nothing more than Billboard creating a dummy ranking system and promoting whoever they want.

this is nothing but what Reverbnation.com does…but it ends up just a pay scam..because it is just singers and bands looking at each other only those that pay vote

    Sort of diminishes you, Perez.
