Spielberg's Getting Musical For NBC

| Filed under: TV NewsSteven Spielberg

Watch yourselves, Glee. You're finally getting some competition.

The hot thing right now is to get a show on the air that can rival FOX's powerhouse musical hour, but so far, no one has pitched an idea that's made it to pilot. That's why NBC had to bring in the big guns!

The network has just greenlighted an "ambitious one-hour musical" show called Smash that was based off an idea by Steven Spielberg. The famed director will produce the pilot, which "follows a cross section of characters who come together to put on a Broadway musical. "

So, does this mean this show will produce original music? That would certainly set it apart from Glee.

Consider our curiosity piqued. What about U?

If it is a show comprised on original music they create I think this could be really good. I don't watch Glee… minus the Britney Episode that is, and I think this could be really interesting.

You forgot to mention that Jonathan Groff might be starring…………..

buuu , copy copy copy !!!

Interesting but i think it might be hard for a show to keep up with making quality original songs every week. I'm scare that it would end up being 80% crappy show tunes.

I fucking hate entertainment sometimes.. something works for one person and everyone has to try it! vampires and club mix music are pissing me off lately.

It would be awesome if they'd do 6 or so hour-long episodes a season and get a different prominent musician/composer to write the music (and possibly story) for each one. Elton Jon, Clint Mansell, Hans Zimmer, Andrew Webber, etc. The variety would be endless.
