Kevin Smith's Not A Fan, Bruce Willis

You might not know this, but Kevin Smith worked alongside Bruce Willis in that awful movie, Cop Out.

We kid, we kid. We can't comment on the movie since we've never seen it. (Then again, no one else did either! Right Ricky G?!)

Anyway, so this movie has been out and in the bargain bin for awhile, but while being interviewed for a podcast at Sundance yesterday, Kevin Smith was asked what it was like to work with Bruce on the movie.

Kevin didn't hold back. He explained:

"It was difficult. I’ve never been involved in a situation like that where one component is not in the box at all. It was f*****g soul crushing. I mean, a lot of people are gonna be like, ‘Oh, you’re just trying to blame the movie on him. I had no f*****g help from this dude whatsoever."

Ouch! Maybe he thought since he was the biggest name in the flick he had the right to act all divash.

He was wrong to do so, but maybe that's what happened.

Bruce, care to comment?

P.S. - You know who Kevin said was a total professional though? Tracy Morgan! How about that!

The movie was awful. They made the big mistake of holding back Tracy. A lot of obvious situations and jokes.

"f*****g soul crushing", it's just like how people describe watching the movie Cop Out. I hear Red State is not any better, that is why no one bought the distribution rights at his Sundance auction. Even-though Hollywood loves a film that bashes Red State values that film was too much of a stinker for them to throw someone else's money at.

As for Clerks II that was not a bad film, because it was saved pretty much by the Ass To Mouth scene. Which is also how people describe watching Red State.

    funny movie!

  4. 4

i enjoyed the movie..was it the best? no. but it was entertaining

  5. 5

Haven't seen it.. but Bruce is one of the most arrogant in the industry, I'm not surprised.

I have no idea why people think Kevin Smith is the end all be all! He had one good movie, one ok movie and the rest were shit! He's an insecure whiney baby who I've heard can be an ass to work with too!

  7. 7

I don't know what is worse….Arrogant Diva Bruce or whiney ass Smith. Bad chemistry all around. That was a recipe for disaster. Poor Tracy!

i just watched cop out last night haha it was soooo fucking funny!!! I loved it! its one of those movies that I can watch over and over again.

Kevin Smith really needs to chill out when a movie of his doesn't get received well. Seriously dude… chill.

Hey Perez, you couldn't throw Marc Maron's WTF Podcast a mention. That's where this quote comes from pretty much word for word. It's a really smart show that deserves the attention and credit. i

First, why not try sourcing your quote? The quote is from Marc Maron's WTF podcast, a brilliant and funny podcast that you should definitely listen to right now.

Second, Kev never said that Bruce was the reason the movie didn't do well, just that working with him didn't help matters.

Third, Red State will kick so much ass because it will do things that studio movies can never do. It will bring in the highest per-screen average every seen in a film. It will amaze and do so for a fraction of the cost of every other studio movie. Kevin Smith will reinvent indie movie. Just you wait. Oh, and haters: lots of people LOVED Red State. So suck it.

How is it surprising that Tracy was a professional on the set? Just because he had some alcohol and partying troubles in the past doesn't mean he isn't a professional. When has anybody ever said he didn't do his job? All of the people on 30 Rock and SNL have a million wonderful things to say about him anytime they do interviews. Tina and Alec love him. Yes, he acts weird and kinda crazy in interviews, but it's just that, an act.

  13. 13

Why rip on a movie you haven't even seen!

  14. 14

Tracy Morgan is the BEST, Bruce Willis seems too arrogant for his own good, and Kevin Smith needs to stop whining and just lose 50 pounds if he wants to fly coach like the rest of us. GO TRACY!!!!!

  15. 15

Bruce is known by actors for turning up not knowing his lines etc. etc. its well known in the industry that he's very difficult to work with

Bruce Willis is one of the leading actors in Hollywood. Kevin Smith, well, all he knows about making movies is, there has to be a plot and pot. That's all he knows. He should be lucky that Bruce offered to star in this movie to help build up the profits. If this movie did not have a big time star in it, it would have not even made it to DvD. Tracy Morgan is a great comedian, an actor he is not. Kevin Smith should just shut the hell up and thank his lucky stars that Bruce Willis helped him fill his pockets with whatever little profit this FAIL movie made him. Kevin, if you read this, take what money you have, and invest on making more of the movies that you KNOW HOW TO MAKE.. Jay and Silent Bob. Kevin's best roles that he will EVER be able to do with a movie, are the ones where he DOES NOT SAY ONE EFF'ING WORD. Stay silent my friend. Thought?
