Cars Will Drive Themselves In 2021

| Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueTech Talk

This sounds so scary!!

A new European technology has been developed that will actually allow you to eat, read, and SLEEP while driving.

Yes, you read that right.

SARTRE, or Safe Road Trains for the Environment, is a new program that has partnered with Volvo that will install an advanced steering and sensory technology inside of cars to create a way to let cars drive themselves.

The "road train" will be a line of cars that communicates with a leader car via Wi-Fi that will allow drivers in the other cars to spend little time paying attention to the road.

Sources say that this technology will be fully developed by 2021 and will increase fuel efficiency by as much as 20%.

Wowsa. The future is going to be amazing.

This technology was actually tested here in San Diego years ago. It is not new!

Just as good as public transport. Get rid of the car.

  3. 3

I remember in the 90's they said we'd have flying cars by 2005…

    The future will be SHIT!!!!
Why does everything has to be new and computer controlled!
Are we getting so fucking lazy that we dont even want to drive a fucking car?!
This is so annoying.. I HATe that everything is going to be controlled by computers.
And technology is developing really fast. And I HATE it!

This is bad actually. Wifi can be exploited by hackers. So basically your "car" can get hacked into…and bad things could happen.

Re: ILoveJesseMac – Get your ass off the computer then and go live in the wilderness. No one is stopping you dumbass.

Does anyone see the irony in calling it Sartre? My bad, this is Perez Hilton…

I have worked in the UK with this technology for a couple of years and it has been around for ages. The issue is that people just don't trust it so I think it's unlikely that a completely automated system will ever be put in place in cars.

Re: Soph1618 – I sure as hell wouldn't trust it. There's always rish of malfunction.

Cars on highways will stay on computerized grids, fewer deaths. But didn't someone travel across the country recently and the car did all the driving? And cars are coming out now that park themselves. This isn't really news.

When you consider how many functional addicts and alcoholics that are out there using their "sensory" perceptions to drive while intoxicated, I don't think leaving the driving responsibility to an un-innedbriated computer is really such a bad idea…is it?

This has gone through some tests already in Europe. Over the past year that has been ONE accident, and that was someone else hitting a self controlled car.

  13. 13

I don't know if I like this… It says the car will follow a "leader car". Well what happens if that leader car goes off the road or something? Will the other cars follow? And how can it account for icy conditions or potholes, or a kid running out into the street? So many factors would have to be considered. It's an interesting theory at best, just too many factors to consider.

  14. 14

they'll have to drive themselves there won't be any people after 2012!

  15. 15

So, does this mean I can have a drink while driving now? Chug a lug

  16. 16

Man! We just keep getting lazier don't we smh

OMG like in IROBOT…this is cool but kind of scary because I don't want to live in a world where the robots take over. I've been saying this forever, robots will take over the world.
