Christopher Nolan Is Snubbed By The Academy Awards AGAIN!

Understandable! If we were to give one complaint about the nominations, this would definitely be it!

Out of all the just-announced Academy Award nominations, it seems that the most backlash seems to be coming from Inception director Christopher Nolan's omission from the category of 'Best Director!'

While he was on the list of nominees - alongside Darren Aronofsky, David Fincher, David O. Russell, and Tom Hooper - for the 2011 Directors Guild of America, he is the ONLY one who didn't pick up an Academy Award nomination, instead being replaced by Joel and Ethan Coen!

And this is the THIRD time it's happened - he was previously nominated by the DGA for Memento and The Dark Knight, but snubbed when the Oscar nominations came around!

What gives?!

We think that given the consistently innovative and original material he produces, he deserves his name on that list! It's more than about time, guys!

Thoughts??

Maybe he should do better movies? Comic book tripe ain't gonna cut it.

Best Director would have made a lot more sense than Best Screenplay.

  3. 3

Did you mess up the order of the paragraphs perhaps Perez ?

While I was impressed with the concept and the cinematography (obviously), I think that the story line was a bit generic and the chemistry between the characters was not very strong. Don't get me wrong, it was an amazing film and It IS nominated for best picture (rightfully so) but I think it could have been done better.

We can finally agree on something Mario. I hate the Academy, they are complete douche's when it comes to Nolan.

the academy award nominations are so predictable. almost exactly the same as golden globes. i bet they have the same winners

This film is seriously over-rated. It is a confusing mish mash with thinly drawn characters - the star of the show is the special effects. Best Director means what it says. It is not awarded because the film deals with interesting or innovative material. It recognises the director's ability to craft a coherent, meaningful and stimulating piece of cinema. Inception falls way short - it is just a visual head trip.

Plus didn't Inception make huge money? Oscars suck. I hope Inception or Social Network gets the Best Movie, and David Fincher gets Best Director. How can they something is a Best Movie and not pick the movie's director? Dumb.

As much as I may like his movies, none of them are 'original' and certainly none are Oscar worthy. Quit your bitchin'.

Re: bgbreakdown – You don't get much better than Memento. One of the best movies I've ever seen, both the storyline (SO original) and Guy Pearce's performance.

And FWIW, Pearce got robbed of a supporting actor nom for The King's Speech. He was amazing.

He must not be Jewish/He's not giving enough to the Jews.

inception was probably too popular >

Sstop talking about stuff you don't understand.

It is not really a snub. There are 5 directors that where nominated that did either a better job or just has good of a job that Nolan did. Besides when you direct a film that was wonderful in someways but totally confusing in other ways is that really being the best director!

He IS the BEST director. The guy is super talented. Hopefully he's aware that the Oscars, well, it's not what it used to be.

    Re: Unbelievable!
What other movie is like Inception??

  17. 17

i'm pretty sure there's politics involved in this, because Memento was VERY original and good… it's a total snub. he's probably not lining pockets or kissing asses. he can cry all the way to the bank, though, so i don't think Nolan is too upset :)

NOOO leonardo was snubbed AGAIN!Give that man an oscar already!!

I have to agree with Monika. The Oscars always have a hard on for The Coen Brothers. You mean to tell me that they could have ten nominees for best picture and still just have five for best director? The Oscars may be the most highly regarded award to win in the industry, but they are still run by a bunch of old farts who need to retire and be replaced by a new generation of members with an appreciation for the art of filmmaking and not be brought by the likes of Harvey Weinstein. The Oscars are a joke and lost its respectability ages ago.

I don't understand why people think Inception is a confusing movie. All you have to do is actually watch it. It's not that difficult to understand. Even my 11 year old cousins love that movie and comprehend perfectly well whats going on.
It's a great movie that was directed brilliantly so that you were left intregued for just enough time so as to want to keep watching but not so long that you get bored of it and leave.
