Next Monday, Illinois' Gov. Pat Quinn will sign a new piece of legislation that will allow same-sex couples to enter into civil unions. The new law will allow gay and lesbian couples to use civil unions as a way to gain several of the same rights as married couples, including sharing a nursing home room to being involved in important end-of-life decisions.

Wonderful! A step in the right direction for sure!

For those of you in the Chicago area, go show your support for the Governor's efforts by attending the signing ceremony at the Chicago Cultural Center. It's open to the public, but you must RSVP with the governor's office.

Thank you, Governor Quinn! Equality for all!

Yet you just lampooned (with incorrect math) the state's 66 percent tax increase a few weeks ago …

As a proud open-minded Republican, I'm really glad they did this. There is NO reason for two people who are in love can't do what they please with their relationships! It's no one else's business and if they want to marry or join in civil unions, why is it an issue?

    Thank you Illinois!

Sure. After the lying bastard raised our taxes!!!

to mommaof 2— Lying bastard??? He has been trying to raise taxes for over a year. He always spoke of a tax increase during his campaign so why is anyone surprised? Illinois had to have a tax increase. People (Repubs) keep saying there should be cuts instead of an increase of none of them want to cut their own districts. The state is in such debt now that you can't "cut" your way of it, there had to be a tax increase and it had to be big because it wasn't done years ago.

I'm sorry, you shouldn't be commending Illinois for allowing Civil Unions. ANYTHING less than marriage isn't good enough. There shouldn't be special legislation to allow same sex couples the same right as married couples. It's demeaning and unconstitutional.

Oh, I see. So now civil unions ARE equal rights for all? Thanks for clearing that up. We've got it from Perez himself. What a relief. Problem solved.

Some of us who do not live anywhere near Chi-town and there are a lot of us are a bit more concerned with the 66% tax increase and wonder how in the hell are some, including me are going to be able to pay that. Wait, I'll just going get just another job on top of the two I have, but hey civil unions are wayyy more important. Thanks again ya douche Quinn.
