MTV is taking the Jersey Shore across the pond with a new series: Geordie Shore.

The show is set to film in Newcastle where, according to MTV UK's director of television Kerry Taylor, "it is always summer", "no one wears a coat" and "Geordie girls are always out in their miniskirt".

Sounds kinda tame to us!

And if you were hoping to see a Geordie pouffed Snooki, don't hold your breath.

Taylor maintains the Geordie Shore is only "loosely" based on the original, but will definitely have "memorable characters who are funny and brash but at the same time warm and get on with each other".

The UK version of fist pumping starts this spring.

    I hate jersey shore

I'm from Ireland and have lived in dublin city and have travelled to and lived in new york, boston and chicago in the USA (lets not go into europe where i've been), but no place has been more fun as and has been the place with the most "CRAIC" than NEWCAStle and SUNDERLAND, you should'nt judge a place til you have been there, and in my opinion the further north you go in the UK the nicer the people are and the better the characters get. So i cant wait for a geordie "jersey shore", BRING IT ON :)

  3. 3

Well, if you've ever seen any of the "BBC Reveals" specials they've followed Geordie people and they're definitely the counter part to the Jersey Shore. It will work.

No Epic Fail! See what happened when the US copied Skins? It was awful, now the UK is copying the US jersey shore. So yeah the UK can keep the skins and the US can keep jersey shore. Srry but nothing beats the originals.

I'm from Australia and spent a year living in Newcastle. I have travelled all over the world and have never been in a crazier town. I worked in one of the more popular bars there and it was mental. I went there for a few weeks and didn't want to leave. The people there are fantastic and are infinitely more interesting and fun than the Jersey Shore bunch who are really just a bunch of idiots. I can't watch them, they are cringe worthy. So I hope you'll admit you were wrong and eat your words when you watch the show and Jersey Shore is tame in comparison. Go there and you'll see what I mean. Best place on earth and that's saying something when I live in Australia…

I don't want nice and fun. I want a bunch of drunken train wrecks.

  7. 7

I hope my friends in England audition

  8. 8

This will need to be subtitled for the americans, Geordies have a thick accent.

  9. 9

    sounds like a winner

THE FIRST GEORDIE BITCH IS CHERYL CHEZZA COLE. HER SHOW BIO READS "…LAME NO TALENT LIP SYNCING ELECTRO POP AUTO-TUNE WENCH WHO PRETENDS TO BE IN THE MUSIK INDUSTRY WHILST AT THE SAME TIME WEARING OFF HER 15 MINUTES JUDGING SOME LAME TALENT SHOW CALLED XFACTOR; PROMOTING HER LAME CD'S ON THE SHOW AND BANGING A WEIRD LOOKIN BLACK DUDE NAMED WILL.I.AM FROM ACROSS THE POND TO FURTHER HER LAME CAREER." SOUNDS PRETTY MUCH ACCURATE TO ME.

Haha this is pretty hilarious. Seems like typical english wit to decide to do a Geordie Shore. It'll be a hit, I know. Got to love the Geordies!

  12. 12

It could be very entertaining, actually. The UK tried to copy The Hills with The Only Way is Essex, which is absolutely terrible trash, but this show would be very good. I'll be watching!

  13. 13

I live in newcastle and I don't think you could be more wrong about it, by day it's a hectic city with people rushing back and forth to jobs and university or just plain shopping and by night it's a crazy, adrenaline rushed, unbelivable party place! We have some of the best nightclubs in the country and some of the wildest, messiest, drunkest fun loving people who have ever lived!!! LONG LIVE THE GEORDIES (little point tho… newcastle isn't actually on a shore….. south shields is tho!

  14. 14

Haha how did I not hear about this .. not that I would audition but this is going to be epicly hilarious in a good or a bad way.. But it's true .. the further noth you go the nicer people get .. just avoid some parts of Glasgow.

    Geordies FTW

  15. 15

tame? def the wrong word to use. think you're struggling to keep US skins on the telly? doubt geordie shores will make it past ur censors

  16. 16

Oh my God please tell me this is a joke a whole hour of Cheryl Cole wannabe's. Don't get me wrong Newcastle is a crazy fun place to live but it's also crazy rascist. Lived in England over 21 years and never once experienced racism until I visited Newcastle next year.
Bring it to London!! Thames shore lol

  17. 17

Re: purrfict_t Hey fucktard, our censors are only for certain stations. HBO and Showtime can show whatever the fuck they want. I am beyond sick of people in the UK and Europe opening their big fat mouths on subjects that they know nothing about.

  18. 18

Always wearing mini skirts tame???? Its freezin in Newcastle!!!

  19. 19

Re: mscalto – We are allowed to open our mouths.. most of us own a passport and have left our coutry in our lives.

Besides I think what he means is for non pay channels over here like CHannel 4, ITV and BBC… we get away with alot more than yours do. It's just a fact. There's a reason why Shameless gets shown over here on CH4 and on SHOWTIME in the states.

  20. 20

im from South Shields and i think Sanddancer shore wouldnt work haha … but neither would geordie shore…… i think that maybe the show would portray Newcastle and the North east in a bad way , were already knowing for being party animals and yobo's and thats not right at all. personally MTV should pick an actual Shore or not bother !

  21. 21

why??? who actually wants this to happen? the only way is essex is bad enough

  22. 22

Oh Dear God, I live 20 minutes away from Newcastle and if this does go ahead I'll probably be too embarrassed to ever set foot in town ever again.
I went to the 30 Seconds to Mars gig at the end of November when the snow was exceptionally bad, and there were still people standing outside of clubs without coats dressed like hookers having a tab, it was disgusting.

  23. 23

Does MTV play music at all anymore? How can one channel, that used to be brave, groundbreaking and essentail, now churn out such crap? and why?

  24. 24

"Geordie girls are always out in their miniskirt".

So they've got just the one, then?

  25. 25

i like mtv most but i like rodiese show

  26. 26

I f*cking love it!!! As an American living in Newcastle (or the Toon as the locals call it) I have to say this is the most ghettofab place in England…although it is rather tame compared to American antics, I'm sure the UK will get a kick out of it ;) It's impossible to go out and NOT see some muscleheaded Geordie get in a fight, girls in 10 lbs of makeup and ratsnests for hair falling over in their 5" heels and 2" skirts, and language that unless your from the NE, you can't effin understand to save your life!! No better place for a good craic! LOL love NEWCASTLE!!!

  27. 27

Re: mscalto – appreciate the abuse. just shows your level. fyi lived in the states for 2 yrs and am well aware of showtime, hbo etc as am huge fan of Nurse Jackie , Mad Men, True Blood to name a few. Also, I didnt realise your passion for free speech only extended to the people of the states……..

  28. 28

To be honest it would have been better if it was in Brighton, even Bournemouth, but somewhere down South… but Newcastle is a great substitue :)
