The Pope Says "Be Yourself" On The Internet

pope says be yourself online

Pope Benedict XVI loves us just the way we are as long as we have Christian names.

In a statement released by the Vatican today, the Pope "advised people to avoid giving 'in to the illusion of constructing an artificial public persona for oneself.' "

Here's what the Pope had to say in his statement:

The task of witnessing to the Gospel in the digital era calls for everyone to be particularly attentive to the aspects of that message which can challenge some of the ways of thinking typical of the web. First of all, we must be aware that the truth which we long to share does not derive its worth from its "popularity" or from the amount of attention it receives. We must make it known in its integrity, instead of seeking to make it acceptable or diluting it. It must become daily nourishment and not a fleeting attraction.

We agree with what the Pope is saying to an extent. Certainly, people shouldn't consume themselves with being popular online, and they shouldn't allow themselves to lose a sense of reality by spending ALL their time on the Internet.

As long as nobody is being hurt by it though, we don't see a major issue with adopting an online persona.

Everything in moderation.

What do U think about the Pope's Internet statement?

Wise words! it's kind of ironic that these words are left on one of the biggest bullshit websites on the web.

    Your pacifism is boring.

… as long as we have Christian names?

Considering the man has a number of pisslamic fartwas over his head just for saying the koranimals should chill a bit, … he's the last one I would accuse of religious bigotry. But never fear, Mario, moehammy is quickly becoming the most popular baby boy name in the UK! And if we keep being scared of being called bigots, the same could become true of America! Let me hear you call the real bigots, bigots!

I could care less what this evil motherfcuker has to say, BTW Perez is just scuking up because the pope is a fellow pedophile, birds of a feather.

Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger is absolutely right: the construction of an artificial public persona (like 'Pope Benedict', for example) comes with a double standard and might mislead people into thinking you're a better person than you really are. It's almost identy theft, when you slip into characters which seek to equate themselves with Jesus Christ!

i do think he has a good grasp on the internet and peoples idea they can do whatever fantasy they like …

but without that perez wouldnt have a site

he´s got the point on this one…though I don´t care about Pope at all…

as long as he stops with the "proclaiming " how we should or should not live, it´s all right…To give an opinion is ok…but coming up with the moral rools that we should obey and pretending being an authoritative souse as Popes often do- that´s not ok

The Pope giving a statement regarding the Internet is like Snooki giving a statement regarding quantum mechanics.

How profound — sound like words from the herpes-infested mouth of a pedophile.

in this instance the Holy Father is talking about witnessing to the truth of the Gospel. We are all called to be witnesses to the Gospel and to try to live according to the Gospel by spreading the good news. We don't need to dillute the content so that others will accept it, the Gospel for us is truth. The integrity that the Holy Father is speaking of means the truth.
