perez do you ever read the articles you post? i would normally agree this is racist - until i read the article. the teacher wasnt even teaching, he was just voicing his political opinion, something that should NOT be allowed in public school. read your articles before you post them next time, ok?

  2. 2

For a guy that "seems" to want to stop racism, you shouldn't post headlines "instigating" a bias in AZ. I live in AZ, and am proud of what my state has done, is doing to handle their own business. Simple fact…the law is the law in ALL cases, it is not ok for ANYONE to break it, no matter what their nationality is.

  3. 3

just to have some input, Native American programs cannot be touched because we are protected by the Federal Government. just sayin

  4. 4

Man your a fucking idiot. This was a zelous ultra liberal teacher spouting off his own views. Even if it wasn't, it's still not racist you idiot. This isn't mexico america, this is america, so teach american studies. Y'know, you create racists and homophobes with your self centered gay ass. You've proven time and again that you don't want equal rights, you want special rights. And I guarantee that if some school wanted to teach european american studies, you would call it a racist topic that the white man is pushing in order to secretely spread racist views. Fuck off dickhead.

  5. 5

I find nothing racist about what AZ is doing. They are not saying that they can't have their own studies. What they don't want is teachers teaching that the Whites are against everyone and you should be against them. Really teach history..

  6. 6

I don't think it's fair that there would be 10% of the school funding taken away of they don't comply. Why should the students have to suffer? School funding is low enough.

  7. 7

    How is this racism?

  8. 8

If the psycho ultra leftist teacher had any brains, he would realize that the Spaniards were, by far, the worst offenders in terms of the ruthless suppression of indigenous peoples.
And before the Spaniards, the stronger indigenous people in Mexico and the US would suppress the weaker indigenous people.
All that is going on here is an expression of the hatred that the dysfunctional feels for the functional. Another word for that is "envy".
Mexico is a CORRUPT sh**hole and has been for 500 years. That is no one's fault save the Mexicans themselves.
Mexico could have been…and still could be…an economic power house on par with the US.
But…Mexico has CHOSEN to remain with it's 500 year old CULTURE OF CORRUPTION.
It couldn't be more clear than that.

  9. 9

Perez doesn't know the definition of the word. This isn't racism.

  10. 10

the fact that none of you can see how this IS a form of racism scares me. i mean think about, really think and analyze for yourself. if you were in this situation and saw a class offering that was billed as a mexican american literature class you would be acutely aware of the main topic of discussion in there: culture. what is something at affects culture? the social climate. right now arizona is racially profiling. it's sad, and the truth of it is our country has done this before to the irish, chinese, german, italian… the list goes on. and the first thing we do is eradicate their culture (remember all those 'english spoken here' or 'irish need not apply' signs?) so of course one of the main topics is going to be their oppression, as it effects their literature directly.

as a college student i have taken many literature classes aimed at specific cultures. when i took african american literature we spoke of all the evils then majority whites wrestled onto the minority. we discussed things like nat turner's rebellion, frederick douglas, harriett tubman and dr. martain luther king. have you ever cracked a book by toni morrison? have you read 'uncle tome's cabin'? the same goes for my native american literature class. read 'tracks' by louise erdrich and tell me there isn't a high anti-white-man tone for what havoc and injustices they wrought on these people and their culture.

why are they legal and this isn't?

  11. 11

I agree with you, Perez. More oppression of Latinos in the hate state. Pure evil.

  12. 12

Re: confettirainfall86 – - wow very well put. Agreed completely.

  13. 13

Mario, AZ is trying to get rid of illegal immigrants. AZ can do no wrong. You are a fucking idiot, too, for always upsetting your conservative/Republican readers.

  14. 14

Public tax dollars go toward this man's paycheck. So why wasn't he fired for "inventing" his own curriculum and one that is trying to incite an agenda of racism? I want to see some of the residents who pay into that school system ask for their money back.

  15. 15

    Dear perez, you're an idiot!

  16. 16

Oh quit your fucking whining. This never qualified as a class; it should have been an after-school club. I am so sick of groups making up their own agendas like this, setting themselves apart from the general population, trying to make themselves "special" when they should be trying to be part of the community… and then screaming "racism!" when they're found out. Our parents and grandparents wanted to be Americans, not Hyphenated-Americans. Try getting back to that, and quit your fucking whining.

  17. 17

Re: hoochpit – try distinguishing between your and youre* before calling others stupid…just saying :)

  18. 18

I have worked in many schools where the teachers are like this one.. NOT TEACHING, but indoctrinating students with their own political views, and it's disgusting. They're NOT teaching American History in these schools, but Perez you think they should teach these kids the histories of other countries, which only goes further to separate us.. These are impressionable kids, and too many teachers are giving their opinions and not teaching the basics. Most kids now days don't even know what World War II was about.. About 7 years ago I worked at a south San Diego junior college.. all students were Hispanic, and the teacher said " you know we have all these shootings at the border by the Minute Men" when there has been NO shootings by that group. I wanted to get up and slap that teacher for essentially teaching all these kids how bad white people are… and this is just one example of what I have heard…

  19. 19

You Know Perez, it's gets very tiring having to constantly remind that MEXICANS ARE NOT A RACE! Geez you moronic fucktard, try to at least pretend that you have more than a 1st grade intellect. Oh sorry, I forgot, you know only what you are told to know in your liberal handbook, independent thought and facts are not permitted.

  20. 20

I completely agree, image that, having this racist Mexican class inside a publicly funded American school preaching "pro" Mexican crap. Imagine if a white group did that.

  21. 21

    Hey Melley, it's "you're" not "youre"…. just saying…

  22. 22

"On the first day of school, they are no different than students in any other classes," said John Ward, who briefly taught a Latino history class in Tucson. "But once they get told day after day that they are being victimized, they become angry and resentful."

as a minority who had taken a college course that was 'unrestrained', i know exactly what they are saying. If your white (and not jewish) …please shut up…not because i'm trying to be racist, but you really don't know what it feels like to be taught history and know that in the past people would have killed you or disrespected you. being white and feeling bad it happened isn't the same as wanting to beat the living shit out of white people just because you don't trust them, or know in truth how evil they can be.

That semester wasn't beneficial to my life. I was just mean, and had a bad outlook on life. I had learned my cultural history before without being pushed to hatred. so please people, arizona is protecting these kids more than hurting and oppressing them. yes, they should have fired the teacher for one, but if the curriculum is always going to be eliciting these emotions then there better off without it.

  23. 23

would it be racist if I started referring to myself as Finnish-American? After all, my parents are from Finland…

  24. 24

Re: Mnchkin – That's wird because I live in this RACIST State as well and this wasn't a law before all this shit with imigration happend…

  25. 25

Re: Eldridge Cleaver – OOh please those conservative readers you're talking about…they are not as conservative as you think, they claim to be but they are just a bunch of fake ass people trying to fit in…

  26. 26

I graduated from Tucson high two years ago. I know Mr. Acosta. He is a great man this article is not him. It was clearly written by a biased person. I am not Mexican American but all of the classes like Chicano lit are simply teaching a culture's history. As far as a majority of the students in class being mexican…HELLO a majority of tucson is mexican. We're almost on the border. Plus if you had a chance to learn about you're culture instead of taking a generic "history" class wouldn't you? Perez you're right it sucks. Tucson high is a great school I'm proud to have went there. The article was poorly written because that is not how the class or Mr. Acosta is whatsoever. After four years there I might know better than some reporter who went there once trying to make him and the program look bad.

  27. 27

The University I go to you have to pay $1,500 to take a Mexican-American course, they can be taken as electives and in some cases are required depending on the degree that your seeking. I'm not sure what was going on in this Arizona classroom or what's going on with Arizona in general. But, to take a Mexican-American class especially the "history" of Mexican-Americans without talking about oppression, lynching, racism, and bigotry is like saying African-Americans came on a cruise ship and overstayed their visa. The history of the minorities (all minorities) in America is a truly sad one, but it's the truth.
Mexico is a dump? sure it is
was the USA founded on white racist? hell to the yes
I know it doesn't sound nice but there is no way to sugar coat what is part of our history.

  28. 28

This class is designed to inspire racial hatred toward whites. The class, and its supporters, are the racists here.

  29. 29

Re: confettirainfall86 – This is very well said. And to the people who say we shouldn't be learning about other countries because we live in America-wow. Do you know that that right there makes us look even less educated and more ignorant about anyone but ourselves? That is fucking ridiculous. And those complaining that this class doesn't teach American history, it IS a class about Mexican American culture, not American history, so how is that an issue? And in all fairness, American history classes have even been criticized for not always giving an accuratel portrayal of what has happened in history, so who's to say that they are not simply giving a more one-sided version of history themselves? The fact is, it is a form of racism to target one ethnic group's class and not the others. Seems pretty common sense.

  30. 30

It IS racist–TOWARDS WHITES!!! Teaching these kids hatred toward whites or ANY race is totally WRONG. Especially because many of the Latino students in Tuscon are ILLEGAL–so teaching them entitlement, like all whites somehow OWE them something, is just plain dangerous and ILLEGAL!!! I wouldn't be at all surprised if this racist, propagandizing idiot 'teacher' was teaching students it was OK to break laws like immigration laws, too. And you idiots playing your 'poor me', 'whites owe Latinos everything' race card are very welcome to move o Mexico if you're really so proud and convinced that your heritage is SOOO much better than all whites'–we rational citizens will NOT miss you one bit! Please take a bunch of Latinos who are in OUR wonderful country illegally with you when you go so they can quit bringing crime, poverty, trash and ignorance (along with their 17 million anchor babies and other useless offspring) to the U.S. while they mooch off of our resources while contributing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

  31. 31

Re: gregoryschmo – Wow asshole. The article was about the class and how they responded to what's happening to them by opening up in discussion about the issue at hand. MAYBE, you should read the article next time before you make idiotic comments.
