Shortly after Regis Philbin announced his retirement from his long-running ABC morning show, reports surfaced suggesting Reg made the rash decision out of anger over getting a significant pay cut in his new contract.
However, Regis has come forward to sources to insist that this just isn’t so. He explained that his producers never even had a chance to talk money with him as he had announced his retirement before contract negotiations were to start. He added that he’d “made up [his] mind a long time ago” about his exit and the execs all knew that.
We’re inclined to believe him. Money he’s got. What he should have now is some time to enjoy it!
