Shakira Passes One Billion YouTube Views!

We know Shakira has a lot of fans, but the singer has finally reached the billion mark — as in one billion views on YouTube.

The numbers come from combining her three official channels, Shakira, ShakiraVevo and Shakirasme.

Naturally, Shakira is thrilled with the news as she reveals on her blog:

“I'm really happy to hear the news. One billion views around the world is an unthinkable number and more than I could ever have dreamed of."

And she has her hit Waka Waka to thank for a part of it as the Spanish and English versions make up over 300 million of the views.

Congrats!

Am I the only one who hates that "Waka Waka" song?? One of the most overrated songs of the past year, in my opinion.

SHAKIRA SWAGGER JACKED THE CHORUS FROM A CAMEROON GROUP. Shakira stole that ”waka waka” song from a cameroonian group and never gave them the credit they deserve. Someone from cameroon: "I agree..This waka waka was like an army song when I was growin up (I m from Cameroon) and I heard the bitch say she wrote it I had respect for her but after that I was disappointed…smh
But she did killed the dance on stage."

TO XCALIBER: Waka Waka" was written by Shakira and John Hill and co-produced by Hill. The track, which samples the chorus of the 1986 Cameroonian hit song "Zangaléwa", by Cameroonian band Golden Sounds, features Afro-Colombian instrumentation, Soca beat and South African guitars. The song consists of rhythmical African sounds, and represents the vitality and energy of the host continent.
