Madonna Record Label Rejection Letter Unearthed!

Wow! He must have kicked himself in the ass for a long time after she blew up!

Check out this old school letter written by Millennium Records president Jimmy Ienner (above), who apparently had the opportunity to sign a then-unknown pop singer by the name of Madonna, but ultimately decided that he did "not feel that she is ready yet."

Wowza. Well, we all know how that story turned out!

So crazy!

But it IS refreshing to know that gurlfriend definitely paid her dues, struggled, failed, and kept on working away until she finally hit it big!

Nothing comes easy - you have to put in LOTS of hard work to reach your goals sometimes!

Thoughts??

Wow, this is awesome! It does show that you need to work hard for what you want. But a little side note….apparently no one thought she was ready because she ended up recording another demo tape, which is the one that got her signed. hmm…sound familiar? same thing happened with GaGa….sometimes when you make good music you have to go back and make great music. LOL.

LOVE IT. THAT GUY IS KICKING HIMSELF IN THE ASS…it wasn't ment to be, if she would have been signed to that label, they wouldn't have had the money sire did.

Mmm..I got some similar not letters but e-mails…hehe…
    Hope it´s a sign I am gonna BIG in future..hahaha…but seriously , I´m not kidding…
She had at least some positive things there ("I enjoyed listening…" and so on). The first three sentences are actually a praise to her. From my e-mails I don´t feel any points what so ever…hahaha

Eh…had she signed with Millennium, she wouldn't have had the financial backing and support as she did with Sire/WB (i.e., they wouldn't be able to afford the big budget videos to which she grew accustomed). Most likely, she would have been just some 80s forgotten dance diva.

    hes stupid

  7. 7

wow incredible. he rejected the most important female artist in the planet. wow .

  8. 8

queen of pop proved him he was sooo wrong.im sure he kicked himself a lot

  9. 9

Well I never even heard of those songs. Maybe they really sucked

  10. 10

The letter doesn't say that she was untalented, it simply says that the songs that she presented at the time weren't good enough. What's wrong with that?

  11. 11

THE DUDE IS PROLLY DEAD NOW AND MILLENIUM RECORDS DOESNT EXIST ANYMORE OR MERGED WITH A BIGGER LABEL. LIKE HE CARESSSS… SMH.

  12. 12

maybe she didn't offer to blow him, because all of us old enough to remember Madonna's earliest days here on the LES in NYC, know full well that she fucked anyone and everyone she could to climb the ladder - including women. it worked then and I'm sure it works now, how else can you explain the marginally talented that make it big so quickly? yes, GAGA, I'm looking at you too.

  13. 13

AND MAYBE SHE WASN'T READY YET… MARIO…. look at Madonna in the beginning…. Borderline and other hits. She sounded like all the OTHER GIRL SINGERS OF THE 80S AND LOOKED LIKE THEM…. It was later, when all the others started to fade into the background, and she should have too, but SHE EVOLVED to remain relevant. No, she does not have a GREAT VOICE, but she started to take chances. Again, look at the Borderline video and tell me from that you would think the girl singing that would become a superstar. The girl who is not super thin, with lousy high lights in what all 80 singers wore. NO!!!!

  14. 14

and in NO WAY IS THAT A BAD LETTER. saying that she is NOT READY YET…. It could have said 'not interested' not bothered to answer, etc. BUT, obviously, someone thought she had something, but needed POLISHING. LEARN TO COMPREHEND WHAT YOU ARE READING!!!!

  15. 15

She must of forgot to fuck him before he listened to her horrid voice. I mean, fucking dj's, producers, record label heads etc. is how Slutdonna's caree got started and kept going !! Such a talentless kunt wad !

FUCK MARIAH AND HER STUPID FANS.

  20. 20

First off he did say "I hear the basis of a strong artist" Secondly have you heard the songs in question? I heard "Get Up" on youtube and it's horrible I would have passed too.

  21. 21

to be honest.. I'm not sure it was 100% her music that actually made people like her.. or even want to support her.. I think it was more of the fact that she pushed the envelope and took risks (ie rolling around in a wedding dress singing about being touched like a virgin etc) it was her shock value that intrigued people- because lets be honest.. her music then (and now) is still cookie cutter pop crap… sorry. I said it.

  22. 22

What the hell, was this letter typed in the 1920`s. It looks like a legit telegram. haha after all she is old, could be true

  23. 23

FYI…This letter had been hanging on her office wall at Maverick and wherever
her offices are forever…It has never been buried!

  24. 24

way to prove wrong someone huh

  25. 25

I'm still waiting for an explanation about how Britney Spears ever got a record deal.

  26. 26

That guy totally is kicking himself in the ass… repeatedly.

  27. 27

Jimmy Ienner is actually a very well-known producer with 85 gold and platinum albums (he produced the 'Dirty Dancing' soundtrack that went 11x platinum) to his credit. He's got multiple Grammy's and two Oscars, so I think he's done okay for himself. I'm sure he saved himself a lot of headaches over the years by not working with that thieving egomanaic.

  28. 28

i've never gotten letters like this but i was turned down when i tried to sign with a label last year; shortly afterwards; i finally found a producer who believed in my work and is negotiating to have me part of the label. if i'm signed; i could be working with tiesto and armin vanbuuren on my first studio album.
