Indiana University Bans Chick-Fil-A

| Filed under: Gay Gay Gay

The students at Indiana University South Bend have a chicken-sandwich-sized hole in their stomachs that they can no longer fill.

But for good reason!

The university banned Chick-Fil-A after finding out that they will be donating food to an event hosted by an anti-gay group.

After hearing about this news, Chick-Fil-A’s president released a statement:

"Providing food to these events or any event is not an endorsement of the mission, political stance or motives of this or any other organization. Any suggestion otherwise is just inaccurate."

Um, while donating food may not be a DIRECT endorsement of anti-gay sentiments, it’s the WRONG thing to do! Next time make a statement by refusing to serve them food! Don’t support bigotry in any way!!

So people who believe that being gay is wrong don't deserve to eat?

I'm offended Perez. You are treating people who are anti-gay like they have the plague.

They are human beings, they just don't believe the same things you do.

You are an ignorant, close minded human being.

  2. 2

they should make up for it by catering to gay weddings for free

  3. 3

Business is business…not everything is politically or socially motivated.

  4. 4

Chick Fil A has good food but they are owned and run by a super religious nut job.
    Obviously they are anti-gay.

  5. 5

Regardless of respective opinions, a federally funded university should not be making these kind of bans.

What ever happened to respecting dissenting opinions?

Next thing you know, they're going to ban pork being served on campus so they don't offend Muslims.

  6. 6

You are such a hypocrite. So its the gay-way or the highway? No other opinions count as long as its pro gay?

For someone who is so open, you really are not….sounds a bit closeted

  7. 7

whats with all the homophobe comments? would you guys support a restaurant who gives foods to anti-semitic groups? no one would. so whats the difference with a restaurant who supports anti-gay. its sad that people still think gay-rights is a 2 sided argument. the opinions of homophobic bigots are not valid and in 30 years they will be viewed the same way we view the racists of the civil rights movement. dont you want to be on the right side of history?

Re: Andrew Lichty – Well said… you have my support!

  9. 9

    Re: Andrew Lichty
PLEASE STOP WITH THE LABEL "HOMOPHOBIC" it's so TIRREED, this is AMERICA, and we are free to do what we want, say what we want, be who want, and SUPPORT who we want. You and Perez are so backwards, and RACISTS–ridiculous how I just used me black card because I disagree with you, huh?

My name is Erin Rempala and I am one of the students that was interviewed in this video. I believe that this was the right descision made for the students on this campus as there should be no discrimination or hate brought upon any group gay, striaght, black, white, hispanic, asian etc… This is my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own,but I don't have to agree with them and you don't have to agree with mine. Just think about how you would feel if you were discriminated against by any company or person and then maybe you would realize what this company is supporting by donating to this event.

Get a picture of the dean of Indiana University and draw white stuff on his lips and publicly call him epithets to teach him a lesson.

  12. 12

Here's my two gay cents. So let me as this: what if Chick-Fil-A gave donated food to a Republican gathering and the closed-minded University of Indiana deceided they didn't like that because they're mostly liberal and banned them for that reason? I think Indiana University is WRONG! Why? Because they could have used this as a means to raise discussion about it…to raise awareness and get a dialog open. Instead, all they did was act like closed-mined MORONS!

As a gay male, I don't think they helped "our cause," I think they hurt it. All they did was create an even bigger divide. Way to go morons.

  13. 13

    DUH!
    Chick-Fil-A it is wrong!
What's worse is that you know it is wrong!

  14. 14

Love Chik Fil A - they should be allowed to give food to whomever they want. This is crap. If everyone supported gay marriage, it would already be law.

  15. 15

    Re: Andrew Lichty
I don't care who they serve, they can serve Nazi skinheads and the KKK for all I care, that is their right. If restaurants quit serving every group that is offensive to other people then they'd go out of business quickly.
It's not as if they are saying "You can't eat here because you're gay, go to KFC." They are simply providing their services to PAYING companies and people.

  16. 16

Business is business, an event needs food, they provided the food for a cost. simple. Not an endorsement what-so-ever

  17. 17

whatever happened to democracy? First of all, it doesn't matter who they support, the kids at that school should be making that choice, not the school. Second, while I dont agree with who they support, you can't just say that they are off limits. People are free to support whoever they choose. It's up to the individuals to put a ban on something. The school is definitely out of line here.

  18. 18

I own a restaurant and ANY convention/large party/church and school event that wants my food will get it. I've catered sports events, weddings, schools, churches, community centres, bingos, "walks-for-the-cure" events, anarchist uprising meetings, I've catered to a klan event… the list goes on and on.
That is how you do business. There is no political association with anything. You are just participating as a caterer. You are literally sub-contracted to do the food and that is it. You aren't speaking at the event. You aren't supporting it. You are just feeding them.
It is BAD NEWS for a business when they start turning away customers based on their own political agenda. Anyone who thinks otherwise has no idea how to run a business.

  19. 19

um, Indiana University South Bend is NOT Indiana University, it is an entirely different campus. Indiana University Bloomington, the main Indiana University campus, still sells Chik-Fil-A, so you should definitely correct the headline, it is very misleading. As an Indiana University student, I would love to see Chik-Fil-A not be served due to the support of an anti-homosexual group, but sadly, it is still served.

  20. 20

LOL Thats right shut them down. The smallest infraction should be SHUT DOWN, NIPPED IN THE BUD!!!!!! We will no longer sit quietly. we will fight, we have a right to our opinion as well. A right to use our influence, a RIGHT to use our education, A RIGHT to use our money, A RIGHT to our resources. to fight small mind who are scarred of change! Why is being gay wrong? but not being muslim, Jewish, bud his, or Athiestt not wrong. They LIVE against what the bible says. Yet they can marry.

  21. 21

How about you make another website strictly for your complete obsession with anything homosexual? I'm for gay marriage, but literally 50% of anything posted on this site is 'PRO GAY PRO GAY PRO GAY' and it is super annoying. I thought this was a celeb gossip site? You get pissed when anyone doesn't have the exact same political opinions as yourself, and that's just plain old ignorance.

  22. 22

Chick-Fli-A is just doing business. With this shit business climate they have the right to sell to who ever they want. USA means freedom of choice right or does it?

  23. 23

Why would they close the Chick-fil-A it;s f*&^&! delicious ! As a matter of fact i am headed over there right now . yummmm

  24. 24

surprise surprise… another gay post that has nothing to do with celebrities or gossip. *yawn*

  25. 25

This is extremely misleading. As a graduate of Indiana University, I do not appreciate negative and untrue stories being written. Get your facts straight. IU South Bend is a completely different school. It in no way, reflects the culturally rich and diverse campus that is Indiana University. Headlines such as this are the reason media is a joke. Do your homework and write something factual.

  26. 26

Re: moorejulie – I am 100% with you on this… geez his political stance and postings are beginning to consume this entire blog.. I think hes doing more harm for the gays then good…

  27. 27

Once again, Fuck off Perez. Donating the food is wrong??? No, in fact is 100%, US constitutionally right. PEOPLE DO NOT HAVE TO AGREE WITH YOU! I support gay rights, but I am completely opposed to assholes like you who complain about equal rights, but tell anyone who doesn't share your stance they are wrong. Complete hypocrisy.

  28. 28

Re: MissErin – I would make a personal choice not to eat at that establishment. I would NOT, however, force my will upon others.

What gives you the right to say where people can or cannot eat?

  29. 29

I don't eat at Chick-Fil-A because the food is rubbery all the time and cold half the time. But the corporation is a "person" legally and it has first amendment rights just like human persons do. The remedy if you don't like what the corporation has to say is to "not patronize" the joint. That is YOUR constitutional right. The university has taken away that right in what can only be characterized as do-gooder over the top political correctness. If I were a donor to this school, I'd withdraw my contributions–not because I'm anti-gay. But because I'm anti-Big Brotherism. (And I still won't go to Chick-Fil-A.)

  30. 30

Re: MsJules – I agree with you AND moorejulie COMPLETELY…THIS IS A FUCKING celeb gossip site perez no one gives a FUCK about your gay agenda. and if they do, they can follow your bigass over to a gay perez site, its not like you dont have other useless blogs for fashion animals and health that no one cares about.

  31. 31

Re: G Is for Giggles – Yes we should support the KKK and the neo nazis groups and if they want to lynch blacks or jews they can do what they want and be what they want to be . And Giggles this not America!! America is a continent stop monopolizing that name , i don't know if you know what an Atlas is? Get one and you'll see this is the UNITED STATES!!

  32. 32

all you whiney idiots on here telling Perez what he should or shouldn't post are so fucking ridiculous. just like you all say "this is america", this is a democracy", "it's their right", well of course it is, but it is also the universities right to ban food from restaurants who donate food to an anti-gay organization. it is also Perez's right to post what he wants on his blog and if you don't like it then fuck off and go somewhere else. as far as the people who say they don't care if they cater to nazi skinheads or they provided food to a klan event, really? is that something you feel proud of. what's next? you going to provide food to a pedophile convention? just so long as they can pay for it that's fine by you? how sad.

  33. 33

Re: Andrew Lichty – great thought out comment. hopefully more people will eventually see gay rights as a civil rights issue.

  34. 34

Ok…I work for Chick-fil-A. I am a 100% out of the closet gay man and everyone I work with knows this. Chick-fil-A does not give support to any groups, the store in question is simply doing what a Chick-fil-A is supposed to do. They treat all groups equal, if a anti-gay group wants to have Chick-fil-A at an event, all they simply have to do is going to that store and request it, without giving any information about what the event is about. The same store would supply food to a pro-gay group if it is requested. Stores are individually owned and operated though some are corporate stores. The store I work for in SC is a corporate store. Owners of a store have the right to supply food to whomever they wish but they are not allowed to turn down a customer unless is just impossible for the store to provide food due to extreme circumstances. A Chick-fil-A would NOT turn down a customer for any reason. My store is actually going to be a vender at the 2011 SC Gay Pride. So all this turning Chick-fil-A into a homophobic company is just plain bullshit. Stop turning tiny little issues into something bigger then what they are.

  35. 35

Most universities/schools are bastions for liberals. They are insular and will not accept any expression of thoughts that deviate from the party line.

  36. 36

I read so many comments on here about "business" being "business" Did you not READ the article? They DONATED the food. This is the exact same thing as donating money to the haters. The campus didn't agree with that, high five to THEM!! What if CF was donating food to a group of Hitler followers? Would you think it had nothing to do with their opinion????

  37. 37

    Their food sucks anyways.

  38. 38

You act like being aganst 'gay' legislation is an atrocity. Wake up, sexual orientation isn't equal to race. You are just being part of the problem of why people dislike gay people.
