Hawaii Governor Appoints Out Lesbian To State's Supreme Court

Yayyy Hawaii!!!

Governor Neil Abercrombie of Hawaii has appointed Judge Sabrina McKenna, an out lesbian, to the state’s Supreme Court.

In a perfect world, this wouldn't be a big deal, but our world ain't perfect yet and IT IS a big deal!

Abercrombie said McKenna's appointment had everything to do with her intelligence, temperament and legal knowledge and nothing to do with her sexuality.

McKenna on the other hand believes it's important to talk about her sexuality, saying:

“I think the reason I am willing to have this interview is that I want the young people to know that it doesn’t matter who you are."

Totally!

What a great role model for the gay community everybody!

She continued:

“Whether you are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, be yourself. Be honest with yourself, even if people reject you, just do your best and anything is possible if you work hard and try hard.”

So true.

Even better, McKenna’s confirmation hearing will coincide with the just-launched effort to pass civil unions in Hawaii, but legislators say that issue will not effect their assessment of her candidacy.

Congratulations, Judge McKenna!

well that's cool and all but i have just one question that i hope someone can answer for me…

Why oh WHY do lesbian women insist on the WORST hairstyles???

  2. 2

Hmm, you call her a great role model for everybody, yet emphasize the fact that she's a lesbian. Perez, no one cares about your identity politics, take it back to the 70's.

  3. 3

Am happy for her appointment. Milestone achievement. Now just let her work speak for itself. Anything else would be distracting and divisive… She is supposed to be impartial after all in her reading of the law…

Yaay Hawaii, you're so progressive. Who cares if the woman is even qualified for the position.

    And Again.
Cant everyone be just a person and not a gay person, straight person, etc?
Why do gay people find it necessary to "Come Out"? Why the need to tell the world your sexual preference? You do not see people who bang a sheep or other animals "coming out"? How about pedophiles? Nope! Why don't hetero's "come out" as heteros? It is just not necessary. That is why.
Noooo! It is only gay people who "come out". If you would quit making a big gay production about it, no one would probably give a sh!t.
These military gays want to serve openly, but in the middle east you would be stoned to death for butt piracy. I bet that you guys would dive back in the closet if some Arab came at your with a sword and a bag of stoning rocks.
Remember folks. I am just amusing myself here. I say what I say with tongue-in -cheek (ish)

Re: jerkstore – AMEN. So the woman's a lesbian. Her appointment came as a result of her experience and qualifications, not the fact that she gets it on with other women. Perez, you're your cause's worst enemy. It's sad that you have nothing more productive to do than push an agenda based on sexuality instead of more relevant and important qualities.

Re: La Garse – Oh. Come on now guys. Of course Mario has nothing better to do. Obviously we don't either.

I do agree that Mario is his own causes worst foe.

This is exactly the problem Perez… How about congratulating the woman for the sake of the appointment. Not for her being gay.. If you want to be treated as equal members of society start acting like ones. Self segregation is not the way to achieve such status. Fight for equality, not acceptance. When you're just another run of the mill American and not a hyphenated Gay-American the problems and tensions will subside. Until then, people such as yourself are doing an excellent job keeping yourselves outside the loop. Sad really.

    Bravo Governor Neil Abercrombie!
    Congrats Judge Sabrina McKenna!
    Another babystep for civil rights!

Some of you here are real arseholes - but hey that's America!

I honestly couldn't give less of a fuck that she's a lesbian. Just hope she can do her job.

Re: Kodes100 – Oh! So now being a gay judge is a civil right. You are an idiot and so is Neil Abercrombie. He swore to find Obama's birth certificate for the "birther" nuts and then he said that he found it and then said that it just does not exist. He did all of this when he was supposed to be running a state.

You idiot. Your brain must be oxygen deprived. Remember breathe in, breathe out, breath in, breathe out.

Perez knows nothing about who was appointed but simply agrees it was a good choice primarily because shes a lesbian..LOL.. not that I'm knocking the lady,I dont know much about her either, but I'm also not applauding a decision simply because I like the candidates sexual preference.

  13. 13

I think we need to stop celebrating people for their sexuality and just be grateful they can do the fuckin job in the first place.

I always thought that Hally Berry was a few screws short of a box. Now she seems to be setting out to prove it by accusing her ex of bad behavior with his child. If she isn't careful, and has plenty of proof. She is going to lose all connection with her daughter. Nasty behavior is not the way to treat your childs other parent. It always reflects back on you, for making that choice in the first place.

I have always thought that Halley Berry was a bit short on screws. Her saying such positive things about her
partners, then turn around and say just the opposite in order to get her way in litigations. She had best be
careful how she throws her rocks. She is going to show bad judgement on the people she is picking. Or that
she is lieing about her accusations. Jan
