Antigay Pastor Plans To Sue Over Show Cancellation

| Filed under: CanadialandTV NewsGay Gay GayLegal MattersLGBT

Sounds like a lot of hot air to us!

Charles McVety is an Evangelical minister and Canadian TV personality. Actually, scratch that. He isn't a personality anymore because he's no longer on TV. After he spewed some particularly hateful preaching on his show in December, his broadcasters canned his show.

Charles McVety plans to take legal action over the cancellation of his show following his on-air antigay remarks.

Postmedia News reports that Pastor McVety’s Word TV was canceled when McVety made antigay comments towards a Toronto pride event. They explain:

“In December's ruling, the council said McVety's description of Toronto's gay pride parade as a ‘sex parade,’ as well as his characterization of gay events as ‘malevolent, insidious and conspiratorial,’ were in breach of the standards."

Sounds about right to us. There is a code of ethics everyone should have to follow and when you step outside those bounds, you deserve what you get.

But Pastor McVety claims the cancellation is a case of “political censorship” and he is looking to take legal action.

How about, instead, you issue an apology for being so cruel! Then maybe they'll give you your show back!

Some "man of God" you are!

I don't know Toronto's gay pride parade, but if it's anything like the ones in the U.S., calling it a sex parade isn't that big of a stretch. I went to the one in San Francisco and I saw sex, nudity, etc.

Great! So you can not speak your mind any more. Though I do not support his oppinions, I do support his right to say what he wants. I guess Canada does not have an equivalent to our first ammendment.

I had a gay friend who was not "out" to his family, so he invited his sister to town and was going to take her to a gay club to sort of show her that he was gay without actually telling her. They went into the club and upstairs where she saw one guy buggaring another dude on the pool table. She certainly got a graphic picture of her brothers lifestyle and ran out crying. Not because her brother is gay, but because now when she sees him, she will always picture that pool table and the guy banging the other guy.

Were they parading around in leather thongs and ball gags in their mouths? If so, I agree with him. If they were decently dressed and not shaking their asses and thrusting their pelvises all around, then shame on him.

  4. 4

whether you agree with his views or not, he should be allowed to express how he feels on a certain matter without worrying about what people might think. They are HIS views and HIS opinions. he should not have to apologize for saying what he believes. also i agree w jerkstore…calling the gay pride parade a sex parade is not necessarily that far off from the truth. Stop trying to censor people who disagree with your views Perez!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Interesting since I could use his own words: '‘malevolent, insidious and conspiratorial" to describe him and his conservative agenda.

I've been to lots of gay pride parades. Sure there are some wild/outlandish drag queens (the ONLY types the media chooses to show) but the average everyday gay and lesbians outnumber them.

    Re: Genghis Khan

As I mentioned in my original post, most of the people are simply dressed in blue jeans and tee shirts. Of course, there are the leather guys and the more outlandish types.

jerkstore: LOL! Yeah, the Folsom Street Fair is pretty wild….but nothing more than I've seen straight people do during Spring Break or at Mardi Gras.

Re: PROF.Buk0wski ENGLISH PROF OF THE CENTU – Wow, really? We don't have the equivalent of a first amendment? The cancellations wasn't based off of Canadians rights. It was based off of company ethics.

mr mccreepy is prob just like the other one who got caught with cock in his mouth and thrown out the church…

  9. 9

He is right….it is political censorship. Now a days it seems as if you voice an opinion that goes againist the homosexual lifestyle of all a sudden you are a bigot, intolerant etc. Sad

  10. 10

i've always thought canada was far ahead of us in the acceptance of gays. Like check out kids in the hall and scott thompson! Go canada!

  11. 11

he certainly is entitled to his opinion and I haven't been to a pride parade in many years . but anyway, it's usually these evangelist types that get busted sucking cock in a public bathroom.

    Homer Simpson on Gays.

Homer : Because of them [gay people], all the good names like Lance and Juliet are all gone. Those were the toughest names we had. Now they are just … …
    Man (gay) : Queer?
Homer : That's another thing. You took that word too. That's the word we use to make fun of you. Now I am taking that word and my son with me.

  13. 13

He s right about sex parades….

  14. 14

I wish the catholic church would just hurry up and die already.

  15. 15

    he's a disgrace…

  16. 16

Listen….I live in the same area as this guy and I will tell you that its not just the odd time he has a anti-gay message. He REALLY hates gay people!! Gay pride aside he will tell anyone who listens that gay people are perverts and how they destroy family values. Ive seen him on my local news spewing his HATE message over and over. Thank god he is off the air! he doesnt spead the message of god but of pure hate towards other humans that have the right to live the way they want. You should see him face off against local gay groups! completly disgusting bully tactics. This is not just about "The Pride Parade" there is MUCH more to it!

    Re: Elle086

Exactly what is the homosexual lifestyle? It sure isn't having sex at a parade. If a percentage of a population is going to be judged with such a broad stroke, I could say that the heterosexual lifestyle is that of those straights who have sex at Mardi Gras and at Spring Break locations.

    Re: andydo

    No he isn't.

  19. 19

    You know he's gay.

Re: PlasticColour – This was an evangelical minister, not a catholic priest.

  21. j1972 says – reply to this

Not that I want to start a fight but the "Man of God" comment shows a little lack of knowledge. The Bible & God is not pro-gay anything. It is definitely against it. Just a fact.

  22. 22

oh, Thank God! I saw this guy's show once. He kept on like, screaming about how having transgender soldiers in our military was a mockery of our other dead soldiers. Then he spent the rest of his time whining about how he was being censored. well, no shit when you go and say hateful stuff about people like that. I'm glad he's off.

  23. 23

Never heard of this guy or his show. And yes, if you show hate to a certain group of society, it is not tolerated in Canada. Right wing nut jobs who want to classify gays as second citizens are not wanted in Canada.

  24. 24

btw, the guy in the picture has severe gay face. You know what they say, the ones who scream the loudest…

  25. 25

There is a difference between free speech & hate speech.
    This person is NO Pastor!

  26. 26

Re: PROF.Buk0wski ENGLISH PROF OF THE CENTU – There is nothing in the first amendment that guarantees free speech on TV. Not to mention that this guy signed a legal, binding contract that probably stated that hate speech would not be tolerated. He violated his contract, therefore his show got canceled. You obviously don't have any knowledge of the first amendment if you think shit like that would be protected.

Your friend is also a moron for not coming out of the closet in a normal fashion. Not every gay person is a promiscuous skank.

  27. 27

let me guess another gay anti christian post. didnt this sire used to be a fun way to kill time and hear celeb gossip.. i couldnt give a crap what the gays r up to.

  28. 28

Re: Oh Resist Her – Thank you for pointing out that freedom of speech does not equal freedom to say anything you want on broadcast television. No one has an intrinsic right to say anything they want on TV. We, as Americans, have the right to say what we will without persecution- meaning we can say that we hate the president, and the president can't have us arrested for dissent. It has nothing to do with people being able to say any hateful thing they want on TV- the TV station has to make sure they don't piss off their advertisers by appearing to spread hate. Trust me, no one in America has the protected right to say anything on TV, even if the programmer says no. Basically, the only way that people can really say anything on TV is by buying a TV station and paying for the programming themselves, or finding advertisers who are just as ignorant and hateful and don't mind appearing to support ignorance.

  29. 29

Re: Rubber Rat – Are you retarded?? Perez didn't censor anyone. The television station did. maybe you should stop breathing and bothering people with your ignorance. Stop reading Perez if he bothers you so much that you've grown to believe that he controls everything he writes about. Stupid people really piss me off

  30. 30

what a hippocrite you are. who gets to decide what speech is ok Perez

  31. 31

Re: jerkstore – You saw the same thing you see at MARDI GRAAS, or CARNIVAL in Brazil and Other countries. The Same thing you see at Tailgate parties, The same thing you see at SPRING BREAK. etc. Don't try to act like straight people don't wild out. You can not judge Straight people from those events NOR can you judge the gay community based on a drunken festival.

  33. 33

To all you American's saying Canadian's do not support "free speech" HA!
Canada does support free speech…we don't support HATE SPEECH which is exactly what this is. Didn't your mothers ever tell you "if you don't have something good to say, don't say it at all!"

  34. 34

To everyone talking about it being censorship, blah blah blah, etc. HELLO! Canada is a different country. We don't have anything in our charter that says people can go around ranting and raving against a recognized minority they way you do down in the states. We have freedom to express an opinion, but as a broadcaster, they also have the right to say STFU and get out! It's not like he's being locked up in jail. The only way that would happen is if he incited violence against people.

  35. 35

All of you people who are defending him because he is allowed to have "free speech", you're forgetting one thing : he was at WORK!

I'm 100% for free speech - someone could say whatever they want about their opinions. They can form groups, write letters or blogs, open a website expressing their views, and no one should stop him if that's all he had done.

But this guy was at work and speaking on behalf of his company.
Would you write a racist or homophobic letter on the company website for all customers to see and expect not to be fired?
Get serious people, the company does not want an employee with homophobic views and they have every right to fire him if they wish.

This has nothing to do with free speech at all, and I hope he does not win the lawsuit
