Franco Headed To Broadway With Nicole Kidman

| Filed under: Broadway BabiesNicole KidmanJames Franco

Such a great play and such a great fit for them, we think.

It's been confirmed that James Franco and Nicole Kidman have signed on to star on Broadway this fall in a production of Tennessee Williams’s Sweet Bird of Youth. For those of you who don't know, it's the story of a guy named Chance Wayne who returns to his hometown after trying to break into the movies, to reunite with his childhood sweetheart.

We're not sure exactly who Nicole is poised to play, but we can only assume James will be taking on the role of Chance. Then again, according to reports, rehearsals are being scheduled around Franco's fall class lineup at Yale. We imagined he'd have to leave permanently to play the lead.

Worth it, if you ask us. Allow us to quote our favorite line from the play:

"I think that hate is a feeling that can only exist where there is no understanding."

Truer words were never written, we say.

We're excited to see this. Are U?

I always thought Franco was an arrogant prick.
Now he's teaching a class about himself.
His ego is bigger than Russia. Fucktard.

    in a word, no

She's probably playing Alexandra who is supposed to be much older than the Chance character.

Perez, why would you say it is worth it to drop out of school to appear in a play? What kind of message does that give to your younger misled fans?

I saw a Chicago production of "Sweet Bird of Youth" this past November that was really quite good, despite the typical material of a Tennessee Williams piece.

The play is a rather harsh diatribe on the passing and destruction of youth and dreams. Nicole Kidman should be great as the acerbic, aging star Princess Kosmonopolis, but James Franco, while appropriate enough looks wise, may be biting off more than he can chew. The role of Chance requires great finesse as he's basically someone on the brink of personal annihilation, barely holding on to the faintest hope and self-worth available to him.

Franco's a good actor to be sure, but going up against someone with the laser precision of Nicole Kidman will either make him or break him.

Much like the Chance character, actually, so maybe it's for the best. :)

    oooh yes, I'm excited.

    Nope. The casting sucks.

Is Kidman going to play Franco's mother, or his grandmother? Did she finally get the message that people won't go see a movie with her in it so she's going to try and fuck up Broadway now. I hope she stays on Broadway and quits ruining movies that could be good without her plastic face and stupid whispering baby voice.

Very excited about this!! @ Crickets - you're an idiot! Nicole Kidman is one of the best actresses of our generation. She ALWAYS delivers powerful performances and is highly admired by her peers! It is fickle hypocrites like you that 1) talk sh*t about a celebrity's appearance 2) talk sh*t about celebrities when they try to do something about their appearance… You can't have it both ways…
