Sorry Oliver Stone, But Hugo Chavez Is NOT An Honest Man!

oliver stone says hugo chavez is an honest man

Maybe you should forget about this project, and go release another cut of Alexander, Oliver Stone.

This weekend, Stone screened his new documentary South of the Border at Pepperdine University, where he referred to the subject of his doc, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, as "an honest man."

The film follows Stone himself as he journeys into South America, where he "explores the civil unrest and bloodshed in the region," whilst slamming America's government, as well as the media.

Here's what Stone has said about Chavez:

“He’s an honest man. I sense no corruption in him.”

“Some people may say [the film is] ‘softball,' but at least it's counter to what's out there. Any time something happens, you have to look beyond the surface. Go a little further. Think, ‘Why?'”

Yes, it's certainly good to "look beyond the surface," but Hugo Chavez is NOT an honest man! We are shocked to hear that Oliver Stone believes he's not AT ALL corrupt.

Do U think Hugo Chavez is actually an honest man?

your readers do not know, or care, who hugo chavez is.

  2. 2

No, he is not honest. He is freakin horrible. The Oliver Stones, Joy Behars, Sean Peans of the world are crazy minded liberals. No one can figure out why they think the way they do. It's like they are possessed. Do yourself a favor, Prez, and become a gay republican for gay rights. You are too smart and level headed for the crazies. Gay republicans and growing by leaps and bounds.

I think the road to hell is paved with good intentions. Maybe at the beginning of his presidency he was trying to do the best for the lower class, but he did everything in the wrong way. Now he is just desperate to cling to his power and run things exactly how he would like (like the new law/bill passed giving him unlimited control for 18 months) regardless of who he hurts and how he does things. He scares me.

  4. 4

Thank you for recognizing this comment by Stone is incorrect and inane. It is outrageous for Stone to even suggest this and I appreciate this website for recognizing it and understanding history. Sort of thought you might support Stone on this one and am glad to see you are smarter than that.

i am tired of these hollywood idiots spreading their idiocy around…who gives a holy fuck what they think or say…enuf already with their moving mouths…they are just assholes that talk.

Kicking out american oil companies from Venezuala does not make him dishonest. Americans are only pissed off because they lost control over the oil. It's exacly the same that happened in Iran. The prime minister Mohammed Mossadegh became enormously popular in Iran after he nationalized Iran's petroleum industry and oil reserves. In response, the United States to join the U.K. in a plot to depose the democratically elected government of Mossadegh. In 1953 US President Dwight D. Eisenhower authorized Operation Ajax and Mossadegh was arrested and killed by the CIA. The coup was just one of many times the US had openly overthrown an elected, civilian government.

WHY isn't he an honest man? I know nothing about the man, but when you tell your readers that is NOT an honest man, you should explain to us why you feel that way. What a pointless shitty post this is. Stop trying to appear all Latino when you clearly know nothing.

Good for you Perez, but this is nothing new for crazy ultra-lib Oliver Stone. He's right up there with Sean Penn and Jane Fonda.I just wish they all would move there since they love the commie way so much.

Oliver Stone only says what the money given by Chavez made him to say. O. Stone, Sean Penn, Naomi Campbell, and others say good things about Chavez because they have received money from him.
Chavez is NOT an honest man. He was just a regular military that suddenly became rich when he was elected president.
If you want to verify this, just make a research about a property he has, called "La Chavera".

people that think hes honest probably think fidel is too.tyrants the both of them.

  11. 11

Hello everyone.. im from Venezuela and i live in Venezuela. And i have to say that Chavez is not a honest man… he´s doing a lot of damage to the people of my country… the situation is very bad… and he still wanna be our president untill 2021… my country is not well. the people is more poor everyday, theres no job for young people, the food is very expensive and the salaries is no enough… i don´t like the celebrities who think that Chavez is the best… because he´s not…. Sorry for my english.. sigue así perez.

  12. 12

No politician is honest…you're naive if you believe that. On the other hand, I'm sure the United States can't wait to install someone who is more favourable to their oil interests in Venezuela when the people have decided they've had enough of Chavez.

Re: Veralynn – Maybe you should do your own research first before trying to sound like you actually know what you're talking about. No one's talking about Chavez being dishonest towards the Americans. If you were to actually READ on the situation you would know that he's a dishonest man to the country of Venezuela. If you want proof go to Venezuela and you'll see people like my aunt (a retired teacher) who is now being forced to sell her house, the one thing she put so much pride and work into, so that she does not have it taken away from her for the simple fact that she does not have a family living with her.

  15. 15

  16. 16

He is no less honest than any American corrupt politicians we have here in our country.

  17. 17

I think Chavez started out with good intentions, but we all know money and power corrupt. So there he is. I do have to give the man mad props, though, for going before the entire U.N. right after George W. Bush and saying he smelled the fire and brimstone W left behind. However he phrased that. As bad as you think Chavez is, Bush, Cheney, McConnell and Cantor are worse. Much worse. Our country is killing innocents and torturing people. And Obama hasn't improved things. We need to worry about our own government before worrying about South American regimes.

  18. 18

No wonder why Alex left him as a producer. He's nuts. Oliver should talk to the people who Chevez has hurt. He should come in to the counstry with out any announcement and see first hand. Oliver your nuts.

  19. 19

ok i was born and raised in venezuela, and i had to leave my country because of how shitty things were. now my family is struggling because even though weve been out of venezuela for 4 years, the venezuelan government wont let us go and be free of their corruption. i personally feel offended that someone like him, someone of the arts, would say something like that. the same with sean penn. that man destroyed my country and Stone has no right to marterize him.

Perezito, this is NOT a new documentary. It was released in 2009 and it is available on netflix. Check it out! Just say'n

  23. 23

Im SHOCKED you're actually going after oliver "king of the liberals" stone Perez… You lefties usually love Chavez the dictator. Good on ya for standing up and saying he's a jerk.

  24. 24

I never thought anyone could be a bigger douche than Kanye, but YES - Stone and Chavez together make ONE HUGE PILE OF DOUCHE. And Stone should be ashamed! Hollywood liberal elite to the max!

  25. cozmo says – reply to this

    25

Just as honest as George Bush or Obama! What about the Federal Reserve destroying the USD! I think it's all relative.. Chavez is honest in comparison to most.

  26. 26

Veralyn and Alemeh, Get the fuck out of my country and go back to your pisslamic shitholes. Yes, the overthrow of Mossadegh was wrong, but what the pisslamics under the child-fucking Khomeini have done to Iran and the Iranian peopel is even worse–they have thrown their own people into a totalitarian nightmare. Before you criticise the United States, you should criticise your own nasty despots and the brutality they inflict on their own. There is not a free pisslamic country on this planet. Fuck you both and fuck pisslam, because I can say that here!!!

Mario–You appreciate liberty. I am happy that you are open to other points of views and do not swallow the liberal agenda like so many celebrities do. It is the liberals who are the enemies of true libertarianism. Cubans know this well.

  27. 27

Thank you very much Perez for this comment…Chavez IS NOT AN HONEST MAN! i'm Venezuelan…and all here know it is the most corrupt government in the history of our Country..has stolen the peace of Venezuelans, he has tortured and killed those who are against their government…we have 200 dead in one week, we have 50 kidnappings a month..everyday is worst with this CRIMINAL president chavez…so oliver stone: FUCK YOUUUU! you have no idea what it means to be Venezuelan and you must watch: LOS GUARDIANES DE CHAVEZ in youtube (that's our sad reality) and you must watch: LA FAMILIA REAL, LOS CHAVEZ Here you can watch a bit of stolen chavez and his evil family…so Oliver Stone must have been STONED and very well paid when you made that movie.

  28. 28

I'm sorry but this was a good documentary. I'm south and central American so and I've studied all this stuff and have heard 1st hand what happens.

  29. 29

Re: jerkstore – EXACTLY I agree. I know[nor you perez] nothing about Venezuelan Politics, except alot of celebs seem to support him. Perez if you're gonna say some is wrong you need to prove your right.

  30. 30

He's honest alright. Honest about being a hater and an opressive dictator. he makes no bones about it. I tend to agree.

  31. 31

    Re: womenareprey
I think your username says enough about you.
I don't understand why you feel the need to refer to Muslims as "pisslamics" it's downright disrespectful.
Why are you calling people here commies? No one has said anything remotely close to communist ideas.
You're just an ignorant pig, take a Latin American history class and then let's talk about how terrible Chavez is, because he's not, he's done great things for his country. The US is just pissed cause they don't have free reign over their resources anymore.

Also, you might want to learn to spell. :)

Re: cozmo – To you and the other insanely stupid people comparing this man to George Bush, I have some questions. Have you ever felt endangered by the government, police force, or other Bush supporters to the point that you would have to flee your country? If you're a single person living in a single home or a couple with more than one bedroom, do you have the fear that the government could take your home away and force you to share it with strangers? Those that work in the media, do you ever feel that your lives are threatened for writing against those like Bush and Cheney? For those who are taxi drivers, do you have to pay a group of criminals monthly fees so that they don't kill you or your family? For those that are small business owners, do you have to do the same thing in order that your family won't be kidnapped and ransomed due to the increasing poverty that has forced the poor to seek crime? And to those who think that they are poor off in the US and live in the projects and have no health care, as bad as it might be, are your walls made out of cardboard or plastic fencing? You americans are actually quite lucky to have had Bush as a leader for as much as you may not like him, I doubt he made you want to leave your country to find a better life for yourself and your family.

Re: jcrhode – wow you've studied this "stuff" and "heard what happened" and because you're central and south american (?) that makes you an expert? The fact that you can even say you know "stuff" and think this is a good documentary proves that you have absolutely no understanding whatsoever of the situation going on. You probably even pride yourself for watching documentaries, thinking it makes you smarter. If you do want to listen to other people in the hopes that it makes people think you have some sort of intellect, go actually research the situation instead of depending on your ethnicity and some biased director's shitty film, and one director who doesn't even live there.

  34. 34

OMG WHAT THE HELL? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? i can tell that non of you are venezuelans, as a venezuelan I can tell that chavez is NOT honest at all he fakes it, that's why everybody outside venezuela thinks he is a good guy, you don't know what we are going through, we can even buy groceries anymore the supermarkets are EMPTY and I have witnessed people fighting over cooking oil, chicken, etc. we don't have diapers or baby formula so to all of you: SHUT THE HELL UP!
