The White Stripes Are Officially Over

It's been four years since the duo have put out any new music, but still fans were hoping for the best. Unfortunately, we come bearing bad news.

As of this morning, according to the band's official website, The White Stripes have officially broken up. Meg and Jack White have decided to go their separate ways and continue to pursue other musical ventures without the other. On the site's main page they explain:

"The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health. It’s for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve what is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way…Third Man Records will continue to put out unreleased live and studio recordings from the White Stripes in their Vault subscription record club, as well as through regular channels…The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.

All good things must come to an end, we guess.

We wish them both luck that they find happiness in their new musical lives and hope that perhaps one day, their paths cross again.

A real shame but I can understand where they are coming from. I love all of Jack White's bands so I know I'll never be without that certain sound only he can create

I kinda figured they wouldn't be making no new music. Hope they get together to perform one last time. I know Meg is painfully shy and suffers from anxiety she's so cute bless her! As for Jack, well we can't get rid of him :P but who would want 2?

    SO SAD WHITE STRIPES FOREVER

I think the real reason is unbalanced idiots taking themselves too damn seriously. Theyre not fighting in Iraq or making Kidney machines or cuirng cancer… theyre making pop musice. end of, wake up dumb asses! If anyone knew who they were it might mean something.

Plus he got married, so I bet his wife said, 'Nuh uh.' Or she did if she's smart.

    =(

Saddest break up news ever for me. Those two created a a charming little musical world together. I saw TWS and Madonna within months of each other at Madison Square Garden. I had almost the same seats for both shows. Madonna had tons of dancers, screens, videos, costume changes, set changes, etc. It was fun. But the Stripes made that place explode. Just Jack and Meg, a guitar and a drum set, rocking out under a giant disco ball. It was way more fun and way more magical and about 1/8 of the ticket price. Thanks for the memories White Stripes!

Not so surprising and not such bad news. Meg apparently has issues with being on the road so she'll probably be happier at home. And her complete lack of ability to play was holing Jack back so he'll be able to spread his wings without her dragging him down. It was a cute gimmick at the start but it had gone as far as it could go. It was painful to hear her leaden drumming onstage.

    FUCKKKK!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO :( :( :(
This is soooooooooooooooooo sad I'm really upset about this. Honestly, no matter what other side projects Jack has/had, nothing… NOTHING beats the white stripes. I tried to get into the dead weather, but it's just not the same. NOT THE SAME, and now, my world will not be the same without TWS. Such a sad day for me to have heard this :(

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I heart the WS. I was waiting patiently for their reunion. This sucks donkey balls! So heartbroken about this. The only thing that would make it better is if Jack comes out with a solo record. It's well due time for one I think. Going to miss the Stripes though. They are one of my top 5 all time favorite bands ever. *tears* :(

  13. 13

Who cares boring music and he's a ding bat whose 15 min are long over. See you at Hot Dog Fest free admision down the road zzzzzzzz

  14. 14

I'll make sure to crank up "Ball and Biscuit" on my stereo one more time today. Till the day I get to see them live again down the road. :(

And yet Nickelback continues existing, where's the justice?

  15. 15

Best Band Ever.. their songs mean so much to all of us fans. I actually love The Dead Weather…but NOTHING compares to The White Stripes. And YES a Jack White solo album would be beyond Amazing!!!

  16. 16

Not only was Jack the brains of that band, he WAS the band. Literally. Every little milligram of talent from the music was from him. Even though he may have come out with some good songs or albums during that time, he could make that exact same sound with any of his other groups, and I'm sure he will.

  17. 17

WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY! I am seriously HEART BROKEN!!!!! I have been waiting for 4 years for THIS???? I love The Racontuers and The Dead Weather, but they just don't compare to The Stripes!
