britain honors harry potter film series

Congratulations, Harry Potter filmmakers! Looks like you're getting some much deserved recognition.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts will be giving the Harry Potter film franchise an award for "Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema."

After earning over $5.4 billion worldwide, we'd say this is a well deserved honor for Harry and Co.

Maybe the Harry crew will REALLY impress us with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, and then we'll honor them here in the U.S. as well.

Just think! If the next Harry Potter film were to be nominated for Best Picture, it'd be the first time that "part 8" of a series would be nominated for the coveted Oscar.

…And no, Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan did not get a nom for the top Academy Award. LOLz.

Do U think the Harry Potter films deserve to be further honored?

I thought the kid's acting in the films were okay, not outstanding. All that changed with #7. This last film showed how far the young actors have come, or maybe it was the intensity of the film? Don't know, but I think #7 was truely wonderful. I hope that next year #8 is nominated for best picture!

    Yes.
The Harry Potter films deserve to be honored.
They are amazing films with incredible actors.
It deserves the highest praise possible.

i never understood why the films are often stubbed by the awards shows

I believe the films (and actors) should be. I won't say it's the greatest acting or such, but the films have…changed the world. Maybe that's a bit to say, but these films will go down in history, along with the books. It's a big deal for my generation. Praise HP!!!

Yes! This franchise had made so much money and they deserve a little recognition from the academy.

is there anything in life more pointless than a bafta? maybe a brit award.

Thank God SOMEONE is recognizing these films! They just grown so unbelievably this past decade, and I am so glad my generation is part of it.
And I really the US awards would start paying them more mind. It's shameful that they haven't won any Oscars, for costumes, make-up, special affects, and even some of the acting (I mean, come on, Alan Rickman deserves a fucking trophy shelf for playing Snape).
If the 8th film doesn't get more attention from American awards, I will just quit.

these movies totally need to be recognized. all the actors, props, sets, costuming etc. were brilliant. they took 7 awesome books and turned them into 7 (well 6 and 1/2 as of right now…) awesome movies, which are completely enthralling. i absolutely can not wait for part 2 of the Deathly Hallows. lord of the rings got recognized at the end of their three amazing movies, so should harry potter.
