Steven Tyler's Behavior Warranted Apology

| Filed under: TV NewsAmerican IdolRyan Seacrest

Steven Tyler Just Stop

Really? Apologies are thrown around for everything these days!

On American Idol last night, they kicked off the show with an apology on behalf of rocker Steven Tyler's JOKING observation that a contestant's last name (Muck) rhymed with a certain profane something.

Even Ryan Seacrest dropped that it was gonna go down earlier that day on his radio show!

The source says the apology read:

“American Idol would like to apologize for last week’s outrageous behavior by Steven Tyler. Mr. Tyler has been warned and assures us it will never happen again.”

We could understand if Stevie T had used the word in a non-joking manner, but come on! Why is everyone so sensitive??

Do U think he crossed a line??

it's stephen tyler — what do you expect???

  2. 2

The gays are the sensitive ones. Everyone else can take a joke.

  3. 3

Oh my god. America, lighten the fuck up!!!I can't get over how overly sensitive people are to innuendos. I seriously wish that people would chill the fuck out.

  4. 4

No, he certainly didnt cross the line on this. I find it amusing that they have him apologize for this and not commenting on the short sexy skirt of the 15 year old contestant. THat was more inappropriate. It didnt bother me at all as I have a dirty mind but that seemed worse than this.

  5. 5

If they never did it with Simon, why with Steve? I find him hilarious!!! I didnt know i was going to like him, he is funny, assertive, damn he is Steve Tyler! I actually saw that "apology" as something sarcastic for the prude ones… maybe? if they dont like it CHANGE THE CHANNEL AND GTFU!!!

  6. 6

And furthurmore, why on earth have Steven Tyler as a judge if you are worried at ALL about stuff like this. That means you dont want him to be who he is so why hire him?????

  7. 7

"Why is everyone so sensitive?" ???? You're one to talk. Gays are the most sensitive people on the earth — They take offense to EVERYTHING

  8. 8

I took it more as a joke and a fuck off to people that have an issue with it than an actual apology……….

  10. 10

Wow as society we have become such cry babies…this PC stuff is getting a little bit too much..ever heard about growing thick skin?

  11. 11

Are you kidding me? You call for apologies at the drop of a hat. You LOVE to be offended by things people say, you have no right to make comments about what a ridiculous apology it is.

It was dumb that he had to apologize for that, especially considering nobody says anything when he hits on the underage girls like the creepy old man he is. To be honest, I don't think it was a legit apology, just something for ratings because the show sucks.

  12. 12

The auditions are pre-taped so it wasn't like it was live and they couldn't have edited it out.

  13. vaaka says – reply to this

    what? that's ridiculous

  14. 14

    "Why is everyone so sensitive??"

I'm starting to think you say shit like this on purpose just to get a reaction out of people.

Hahaha, Perez you are SUCH hypocrite. As soon as someone makes one little harmless and non-offensive comment about gay people or gay rights, you are all over their nuts.

  15. 15

Bullshit!! The auditions are taped and can be edited…..so fucking stupid! Plus, it's Steven Tyler, he's not going to be sayin "shucks" folks….but it does rhyme with it!!

  16. 16

    WHAAAAT! he is hilarious!

  17. 17

He's the best judge on the show. Let him do and say what he wants.

  18. 18

The apology was a joke you tool!
The Muck guy was new this week. They were referring to his bleeped out rhyme from last week and then 'apologized" and followed right after with him being bleeped again.
Are you dumb or lazy? pick one.

  19. 19

You act like you're surprised at all these apologies when you're sitting up in your ivory tower demanding the majority of them. Get a grip.

  20. 20

he didn;t say the damn word.. HOLY FUCKKKKK! people need to lighten up and get over it. NEWSFLASH.. if you think your kids dont know these words and hear them from time to time…. you live under a rock. SMH

  21. 21

Re: Daisydancer – Totally agree. Didn't Perez get all up in arms when Vince Vaughn said "that's so gay" in a movie. Give me a break Perez. You're one of the first people to get sensitive over stupid shit!

  22. 22

Why is everyone so sensitive??? Are you fucking kidding, your the most sensitive little bitch out there. What a fucking joke.

  23. 23

Re: LetttyB – Iagree 100% with your statement… this is not really a "live" show I mean as much as they'd like to have us believe it is.. but especially at this early stage of the show.. there are definitely edits being done.. AI just wants to keep relevant… thye probably thought.. hey it worked with Ricky Gervaris why not with us LOL

  24. 24

Way too sensitive. Perez is overly sensitive as well…double standard?

  25. 25

Okay, people, the apology was a joke. The whole thing was a parody of people saying that he should apologize for "inappropriate" remarks he made to a 16 year old girl about the length of her skirt.
I don't know how anyone watching that didn't understand it was a joke. Why would they air it otherwise?

  26. 26

Re: April 20th – I completely agree with what you said. I thought it was a GIANT middle finger to put those two screens up right before the actual clip of the Muck, followed directly by the AI credits. He IS Steven Tyler, this would be like them issuing an apology for J Lo wearing jewelry.

  27. 27

WOW!!! Its Steven Tyler for fuck sake! This is what pisses me off about my own damn country. We complain about every fuckin thing and yet we have everything!! We are spoiled little brats that want more and more and more!!!

  28. 28

Oh, my God. Are people actually this dumb? The apology was a joke. That's why they showed it with ridiculous lounge music playing in the background. The auditions aren't live, geniuses. If they actually had a problem with Steven's behavior, they wouldn't show it in the first place.

  29. 29

it was clearly a joke - why apologize for being offensive and then followup with a clip of steven asking what rhymes with "muck".

i like ya perez, but this was dumb.

  30. 30

Did he cross a line? Muck no…….

  31. 31

I realize that this is too much for a liberal homosexual to comprehend… but AI is regarded as a family show, and most families don't like their children exposed to jokes about "The F Word."

That said, I do agree that he wasn't the wisest choice as a judge "for a family show," and therefore some of this is to be expected. I also COMPLETELY agree with the poster who pointed out that the show is heavily edited, so AI obviously intended for that remark to make it in.

  32. 32

When I saw the apology I was taken aback. I didn't even know what they were apologizing for, and still don't. I'd be pretty much pissed off if I were Steven Tyler. People need to relax and not be so fucking uptight. I hate uptight people.

  33. 33

What did Americal Idol expect? He's not exactly a squeaky clean artist. They are really going to suffocate this guy. If it's a family show then don't hire Steven Tyler to be a judge on it.

  34. fiera says – reply to this

God, nobody has a sense of humor anymore, how lame!! Leave Steven alone!!!

  35. 35

  36. 36

It was a joke.. I'm still kinda shocked how we Americans have no sense of humor and sarcasm flies over everyones heads completely all the time. #sensitivesallies

  37. Bree says – reply to this

They couldve edited it out…but they didnt. So why are they apologsing for Steven Tyler. Fox is just as guilty.

  38. 38

Oh, come ON!!! Steven said hat he said, but AI could have edited it out if it was that offensive. they did not. If anyone were to apologize, it should be AI editors, NOT Tyler… ridiculous!

  39. 39

Perez, you're seriously asking this question? You get offended about EVERYTHING. You think if a straight person mentions the word gay or homosexual that they're a bigot that needs to apologize.

  40. 40

oh fucking hell, get a grip! FUCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

  41. 41

Obviously his choice of words prove him to be of an adolescent in his teeny years or some douche bag twenty year old that has never gotten laid. LOL. But in his defense ( I guess ) I will say that he is probably being ordered to act like a perverted funny arse just for ratings. Where X Factor has ongoing feuds between all judges on the panel to boost ratings, if American Idol wanted to set themselves apart from previous and current talent shows then they will need to act out of the ordinary as well. And that is the only reason why I think some sixty year old would be commenting about a 15 year old's skirt and making stupid perverted comments like, muck must rhyme with. . . the obvious slut, lol.

  42. 42

Also I would like to add a slut is a female who has a lot of sexual partners or who likes to have sex. Why did they give a female such a degrading name for something that shouldn't be looked down upon? As Steven is gathering everyone's attention and making references to the noun "slut." I am completely 100 percent sure that that would piss off a lot of females and well the obvious parent who doesn't want to explain to their kids…"what exactly is a slut, mom?" Hahahahahahaahahahah. And for those that don't have kids, try having them! :)

  43. 43

LMAO! My cousins nickname is Muck. We used to call him Muck, Muck the Fuck.

  44. 44

Oh fuck off he's a rockstar

  45. 45

Re: missourimedic – As someone who either doesn't do any research or might be totally clueless I realize this may difficult for YOU to comprehend but the whole thing was a JOKE. This whole thing was a parody of people saying Steven Tyler should apologize for comments he made to a 16 year old about the length of her skirt. If you watched it it is obvious that it was a joke. If you didn't get that, well then you might be a bit slow. If you didn't watch it, I would suggest doing some research before insulting people on an event you know nothing about.

  46. 46

Are you kidding? he is great on the show. why are they making him apologize and not ask Simon to apologize for all the nasty hurtful things he was allowed to say to people.. how stupid…

  47. 47

Okay, I'm going to say this for the LAST TIME.

The apology was for LAST WEEK. The Austin contestant was on LAST NIGHT. So how is that apology for the kid from Austin?
And the fact that AI producers have NOT come forward to say exactly what the apology was for?? How evil is that?

  48. 48

Steven Tyler is a mucking piece of mwit…and I mean shit. Good away douche-baggery.

  49. 49

They're sensitive because only gay guys and hypocritical christians from Alabama watch this piece of shit show anymore. It's Steven Tyler… rockstar… helloooooo?… what do people expect? Last I checked he wasn't a member of Hanson

  50. 50

Perez why do you take gay jokes to heart.

  51. 51

Re: mitzy5280 – dude, we aren't in Iran… i can't believe you want to complain about a short "sex" skirt.. 21st century honey.

  52. 52

So did you miss the joke? After the disclamer they showed…. Did you NOT see the guy that they showed the clip of the kid with the last name of "Muck" (or something like that), the guy said "Duck", Steven said "um, nope, different letter, its …." then they cut to the intro. IT WAS A JOKE! IT WAS FUNNY! Steven & Jennifer were the best thing they did for that show!

  53. 53

  54. 54

There are thousands of hours of footage. They probably use 10 hours of it. It's called editing. Fox should apologize, not Steven Tyler.

  55. 55

This is pathetic…I actually take offence for them making Steven apologize. If it wasn't for these antics I wouldn't even know American Idol was still on air. I never made it past Clay Aiken! LOL

  56. 56

ok ok ok ….remember that Jerry Seinfeld episode where Jerry forgot to get his chick's name…and all she said was it "rhymed with a part of the female anatomy" Clitoris…her name was Deloris…this is practically the same thing. This episode aired in the 90s why have we gotten so much more uptight =S

…Than again Seinfeld is EPIC…American Idol won't be remembered 20 years after it's cancelled.

  57. 57

I found the "apology" from the producers was pretty sarcastic - considering they played a clip of him being funny and swearing right afterwards.

  58. @v@ says – reply to this

No, I don't think intimating the rhyming of one of Carlin's seven words you can't say on television is crossing the line. Political correctness will be the spiritual death of us all. Compared to the Tylers of old, this is like watching golf, comparatively. Even if Alice Cooper loves golf now.

  59. 59

Perez you idiot! How can you claim to the "Queen of all Media" and be this CLUELESS! The "apology" was a JOKE by FOX and the TV show itself!! There was NO apology… it was a prank… a joke. Man you are really out of touch!

  60. 60

Perez, the more I think of it, really, you have NO RIGHT to even have a blog. You're just stupid. Seriously, you are just a dumb person. You don't get your facts straight, you spread lies and you "report" things and don't even know one single fact. Not one advertiser should waste their money on your site.

  61. Tasos says – reply to this

Whomever decided that the piece which offended should NOT be cut by film editors should be reprimanded. Management knows this, too,
but didn't have a more positive mean to create AI hype.

  62. 62

This is a bit rediculose! Whats the big deal? We're all adults here, right? I mean I know it's a family show but c'mon.

  63. 63

Re: MsJules – shut the hell up bitch

  64. 64

Get the fuck over it…it's Steven Tyler…what did they expect?!?!

  65. 65

for fucks sake, oth than simon, tyler is the best judge. i dont watch the show i=but ive been an aerosmith fan my whole life. leave tyler alone, im sure the contestant muck himself was tickled. i bet tyler regrets signing up for this shit
