We're Not In The Town, Anymore! Ben Affleck In Talks To Direct Iran Thriller

ben affleck in talks for iran thriller

Looks like Ben Affleck's directing job on The Town gave him some serious points with Warner Bros, cause they've got another project for him…a bigger one.

Affleck is currently in talks with WB to direct Argo, a political thriller set up by George Clooney and his producing partner, Grant Heslov.

The project is based on a Wired Magazine article, and it's about a "stranger-than-fiction CIA rescue operation during the occupation of the American embassy in Tehran in 1979, when six U.S. diplomats were held hostage."

As it happened, the CIA set up a plan where a fake "Hollywood film crew" would go on location in Iran…but really they'd be there to rescue captives from the country.

Sounds exciting to us! And given Affleck's track record with acting directing, we're thinking he could be a very solid choice for this project.

Are U intrigued by this project? Do U think Ben Affleck's directing skillz will do the story justice?

If you love Canada as much as you say, you should have also mentioned that the rescue portrayed in film Argo was set up by the Canadian government and successfully executed by Canadians.

I totally think Ben can do it. He can obviously direct, and given how interesting this film seems, if he pulls it off it will really solidify his skills.

    Sure!! Affleck is quite talented.

On the day the hostages were seized, six American diplomats evaded capture and remained in hiding at the Swiss and Canadian embassies. In 1979, the Canadian Parliament held a secret session for the first time since World War II in order to pass special legislation allowing Canadian passports to be issued to some American citizens so that they could escape. The six American diplomats boarded a flight to Zürich, Switzerland, on January 28, 1980. Their escape and rescue from Iran by Canadian ambassador Ken Taylor has come to be known as the "Canadian Caper". They fled Iran using Canadian passports on January 28, 1980.

I like Ben, as an actor and director. One question - does he wear a piece?

you had me at political thriller. i would absolutely be interested in this project, not just because of the fresh direction (Affleck), but because of the story itself. i hope it's more accurate than not, though, and gives credit where credit is due for a historical event. one question: will george clooney be in it???

I have to say that I really didn't care for Ben's acting till after I watched The Town.
He was more then impressive and I hope he continues with bringing forth more work and performances like that for us all to enjoy in the future.

Ben Affleck is a brilliant director. Can't believe he didn't even get nominated for an Oscar. Any project like this should consider themselves lucky to have him onboard.
