Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark Vs. Critics

spider man broadway show gets more negative early reviews

Sorry, Spider-Man crew. Looks the critics just can't keep their comments to themselves!

Back in December, Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark spokesperson Rick Miramontez was angry when theatre critics released less-than-fantastic reviews of the show while previews were still running.

Now, Miramontez is EVEN MORE pissed, after The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, and other news outlets went against Broadway tradition and ran early NEGATIVE reviews before the show's March 15 opening.

Here's what Miramontez had to say about it:

“The PILE-ON by the critics was ridiculous and uncalled for. Their actions are unprecedented and UNCOOL!”

Sorry to hear it, Rick. Then again, it shouldn't come as a TOTAL surprise that things aren't going according to plan with this play. It's been a reallllllly rocky road!

Will the negative reviews of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark influence your decision to see the play or not?

Isn't it their job to critique and give their opinions?

Softy! Hearing bad reviews from critics from this show isn't surprising anyway.

That sucks, because Julie Taymor is (used to be, at least) rather brilliant.

while for most productions the critics hold off until after previews, this mess has continuously extended their previews, and apparently has fixed nothing…except some tech glitches

the show is a mess…and people are only going to see it, hoping to see one of the performers die

I saw this show on the Saturday night that NYT reviewer was there…yes there was a stop to fix issues, but i thought the show was pretty awesome none the less. And it is previews, and they have extended them, so until the show is frozen I think it all has to be taken with a grain of salt. If those hiccups HADN'T happened, the show wouldve been totally amazing. I've never seen anything like it. As for the music…it sounds like U2…you either love it or hate it. I loved it.

Seen it. Looked fantastic, but would rather have been deaf and made up my own script and score.
