Debra Messing Excited For New Role

Great news!

Debra Messing is coming back to television for the show Smash, the story about a gay man and a young woman who try to organize a broadway show about Marilyn Monroe.

You might remember that Messing was on a little show back in the day called Will & Grace, a show also about NYC where the male lead is a gay man. That's as far as the coincidences go, though, because this is slated as a drama!

Here's a bit of a synopsis:

"An ambitious drama about the mounting of a Broadway musical, which was based on an idea by Steven Spielberg. The pilot, produced by DreamWorks TV and UMS, follows a cross section of characters who come together to put on a Marilyn Monroe musical on Broadway. At the heart of the show are the musical's composer Tom, who is gay, and the lyricist Julia (Messing), who is somewhat against the idea of a Marilyn Monroe-themed musical."

Sounds good to us!! Especially because the show will feature actual original music and scores for the Broadway play they're trying to make!

Fab!

Good to see U back, bb!

Will U watch Smash??

No. Doesn't sound interesting at all. A musical drama? What? I'll pass.

Shit. Just because the script includes a gay person doesn't make it good! I LOVED Will and Grace but this show sounds like a horror.

Debra Messing in a drama?! What a waste of her comedic talent!!!!! SAD!!!!! I love her but felt that the show she had after W&G was a slow moving snore (it showed so much potential!) and now this? Can't we find this sweetheart a better role already?!
