Catholic Church: New Confession App For Your Phone!

| Filed under: Wacky, Tacky & TrueTech Talk

Who needs the judgment of a priest when you can just use your phone?!

Ha! This is TOO bizarre!

After Pope Benedict XVI's recent World Communications Address emphasized the importance of the church acclimating to the new, digital world, an iPhone application is set to be released that helps Catholics prepare for the sacrament of confession!

Described as a "personalized examination of conscience for each user," the app has even been sanctioned and approved by a church authority!

Patrick Leinen, who helped create the new tool, explains:

"Our desire is to invite Catholics to engage in their faith through digital technology. Taking to heart Pope Benedict XVI's message from last years' World Communications Address, our goal with this project is to offer a digital application that is truly 'new media at the service of the word. We hope many more will take advantage of this new confession resource."

However, don't expect absolution from your iPhone. The app is not designed to substitute for actual confession, but instead an aid to help Catholics through the act.

Wait. So what the eff is it? A tutorial?

Confessing your sins to a priest is pretty self-explanatory! At least we thought it was!

Whatevs! We actually think that it's cool of the church to attempt to keep up with the changing times and stay updated with what technology can now provide!

What do U think?? Will U be confessing your sins to your iPhone anytime soon?

Maybe it's an app wherein the priests confess their innumerable sins to the dopey parishioners who still choose to be in the Church of Embezzlement and Sexual Abuse.

    SO stupid. Lol.

An "examination of conscience" is what you do before confession… like you go through and think about what you did or didn't do in certain situations. It's like a check-list before actually going into confession so you know exactly what to say to the priest. The app isn't an actual confession. Just wanted to clear that up!

Examination of Conscience is a prayer that Catholics say before confession as they think about what sins they have committed. They are just putting it on peoples phones for easy access.

You all should have more respect for peoples religions when you have no idea what your talking about. Just because you dont believe it doesnt mean you have a right to attack it.

You are morons…. It's not about confessing to iphone but about examination of conscience (something that you should do before real confession). Ever heard of that?

    so last year..

Not a chance. Your sins will stay out in the digital ether in perpetuity, if that's how the thing works. Put it on paper, and you're permanently incriminated.
Ask forgiveness in your head or to a live priest if you must.

The Scientologists have their E-meters, not the Catholics have their I-Phone confession aps!

if the catholic church wants to move toward the future…. let them start with…. married priest
    women priest
and most importantly, acceptance of gays, divorced and all others who dont fit into the narrow minded , archaic rules of their church.
if the catholic church thinks that this is the way of the future, i dont think their future is too bright. i am a cradle catholic, and by their accounts, i shouldnt even be allowed to walk into the door of a church. BUT i am a good person and a good christian. and THAT'S the church i belong to now and am hoping that the "future" holds more people who adhear to the rule of treating others the way they want to be treated.

The catholic church can't be endorsing this, apart from if they are getting paid, cos surely it stands against the confession thing? Stupid I think,

Perez you're an idiot. An "examination of conscience" is what us Catholics do before the actual confession. In my church its actually written down in a book, and you go through it thinking of all your sins. Its a way to prepare for confession. It would be interesting to have it as a phone app instead of a book.

lmao i wonder how much theyre gonna charge for the app because we all know thats what theyre mainly interested in. and i wonder what idiot is going to purchase it? unless it's free, then whatever.

i was raised catholic, but currently agnostic.

  14. 14

    this is just wrong…

  15. 15

can we have an app that completely replaces church? That would be nice, im tired of going

Ick. I agree completely with debbiek…if they want to move forward, they need to start accepting people instead of shunning them away for ridiculous reasons. I thank God every day that He made me an open-minded and accepting person of ALL of His creations. He made us in His image, and that's one thing the church tends to forget…
