    I admit it, I’m not immune to a well orchestrated hype blitz. Between the Anderson Cooper interview, Perez Hilton’s incessant cheerleading and her recent proclamation in Vogue that she’s ‘one of the greatest songwriters’, I was decidedly primed to listen to Lady Gaga’s latest single ‘Born This Way’ with an open mind. After all I’m only human, I’m not ALWAYS right about everything, maybe I’ve been misguided in thinking that the mega shnozzed, ivory tickler is merely a marginally talented Madonna clone, with a gift for pushing buttons and wearing wacky frocks made of cold cuts.

    Fortunately I don’t have anything to beat myself up about, as ‘Born This Way’ is exactly what I expected; a flimsy ‘Material Girl’ retread, with lyrics so inane they border on offensive. Released today – because she ‘couldn’t wait’ – Gaga’s latest ‘masterpiece’ sounds like an amateur hour, tin-eared karaoke performance of Madonna’s ‘Express Yourself’. It’s so blatant a rip-off, in fact, that it makes me wonder whether or not the poker-faced buttaface was hedging her bets that those ‘little monsters’ of hers, were too young to have heard the original. Seriously, if I was Madonna I’d demand royalties. The beat is totally pilfered, and when she shrieks, ‘Born this waaaaayyyy’ it’s identical to ‘lift you to your higher grounnndd’. Of course, whereas the original was a genuinely inspiring late 80s feminist manifesto, ‘Born This Way’ is simply a toothless attempt at rallying her gay fanbase to her petticoat.

    In the end, I’m sure this latest release will be championed by her troop of parrot-brained devotees as a veritable anthem of individualism and self-expression. Sadly, this ultimate assessment will be based not on the actual merits of the tune – which are absolutely non-existent – but because we’re living in a culturally bankrupt age, where musical curiosity is not valued, and the slavish worship of fame for fame’s sake has poisoned our collective soul.

    When the lyrics to this turkey were leaked to the internets, I felt they were at best infantile, but I held out some small measure of hope that the accompanying melody might have some value.

    I was wrong about that.

    I was not wrong, however, about the lady herself. She is indeed merely a ‘marginally talented Madonna clone with a gift for pushing buttons and wearing wacky frocks made of cold cuts’. I guess I AM always right about everything…I can’t help it – I was BORN this way.

    Between the two Hold it against me because the music is more interesting. I like the lyrics to born this way but it's lacking something. Still a great song but not Epic. Don't get me wrong, I do own Ga Ga albums, but have never ever been convinced she's original. She's not. Wearing a meat frock doesn't make you that.     I hate that people like you try to make it some contest between two artists. They both have different qualities to their music that makes them great in their own ways. I'm not a Gaga fan but I'm sick of how people always try to make it out to be some kind of feud between the two. I expected more from my Britney, I'm a huge fan and this song feels so blah.
