James Blunt Does Katy Perry (Not Literally)!

| Filed under: Katy PerryJames Blunt

We thought this was a joke at first!

James Blunt has done a very serious singer/songwriter cover of Katy Perry's lighthearted summer anthem California Gurls.

We're not quite sure it works!

Judge for yourselves!

It actually works until the chorus then it just gets downright silly. Once he says "popsicle" with a straight face…..forget it.

OK - so aside from the hilarious part that he's actually referring to himself as a California Girl, this actually appeals to me way more than the original. I love the acoustic vibe, and the natural voice. And he actually HAS a voice - as opposed to KP. Very nice!

Its lovely next to Perry's braying vocals.

i prefer john mayer still has a soft voice without sounding too girly.. this is ok but i didnt get past 1.20 just find it unecessary why he would sing it at all

The Bruno Mars version is 200 times better than the original and this.

  6. 6

    I actually liked it!!

  7. 7

It works! It is not a dance version for sure, but it is agreeable to the hearing.

Another fucking cover, great. What is it with these hacks that they have to regurgitate eachothers songs. This is why pop music sucks ass so bad, some old white guy writes the songs in studio and the pathetic pop singer puts it out. Then another no talent hack takes the song some old white dude made for the latest studio creation and sings it. For fuck sakes, how ’bout some originallity for once in this god aweful genre.

He's a prankster and a half. He does this crap all the time. he's funnier than hell. It;s called comedy Mario. Why are you such and idiot all the time?

  11. 11

    OMG I love it!!!!

  12. 12

His voice is a little annoying but I like it and I am sure we will eventually see someone do this on Idol.

  13. 13

    I like it!

  14. 14

    love it.

  15. 15

His face looks like an asshole.

  16. 16

well, this is a lot better than all of katy perry's live performances

  17. 17

    I love it, it's amazing.

  18. 18

    love it!

  19. 19

you don't like it because you only like untalented pop idiots, this song sounds better with his talent instead of autotune

  20. 20

    Not Bad.

  21. 21

It works. Actually gave me shivers. But the lyrics… oh lord, how can he sing them without cracking up?

  22. 22

The first verse actually worked beautifully but after that… no.

  23. 23

Re: hoochpit – Cover music is hardly pop exclusive… And are you on crack? What makes you think he is actually releasing this version? It was just a performance.

  24. 24

Maybe it doesn't work because that song repeats one note over and over again like an autistic person that bangs their head against the wall

  25. 25

No, I don't think it works. Especially after seeing Katy Perry dance cheesily with cupcake boobs, but I don't think I'd like it by him even if it wasn't her song first. just sounds quite silly, yeah. But I do like him a lot - listen to the song "No Bravery."

  26. 26

    Re: Duncs – Agreed!

  27. 27

man, that sucks ass. boy, does this guy need a hit

  28. 28

Haha:) Blunt is Lovely. I don't think that this is really his style.. But hey, whatever floats your boat.

  29. 29

awww pretty, but there are some lines you can't get away with singing, as a man
