Spider-Man Turns Off The Critics, Turns On Theatergoers

| Filed under: Broadway BabiesBusiness Blitz

spider man ticket sales are up

If the Green Goblin can't stop Spider-Man, did we REALLY think the critics would be able to do it?

Despite the fact that reviews for Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark have been overwhelmingly negative, ticket sales are up!

Last week, the show had "almost a 3 percent spike in sales over the previous week," grossing $1,330,014.

Congratulations, Spider-Man team! Good to know that the hundreds of injured crew/cast members' efforts weren't entirely in vain.

Have U survived seen Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark yet?

Saw it, it's literally terrible in the best way possible. Laughed through the whole thing at how terrible it was. The script is the worst I've ever heard and the music is atrocious. It does look amazing though, tech-wise, I have to say. Everyone should see it if they're having a bad day.

Saw the show a few weeks ago…it reminded me of the Lord of the Rings musical (which obviously was not very successful): the staging was really cool, and there were a couple good musical numbers, but otherwise the show is really weak.

Given the bad reviews, I have to believe people are choosing to see it because they're hoping to see yet another performer get seriously injured. Why do people watch NASCAR? Because they enjoy watching cars go around in a circle for hours? No. They're waiting and watching for a crash - the only excitement that happens in that sport.

I heard that they use typewriters in the news room but make jokes about the internet in the script? Laughable really.
