Bette Midler Disses Dylan Grammy Performance!

| Filed under: Music MinuteBette MidlerGrammys

Come On From Bette Midler

Oh shizz!

Bette Midler herself is weighing in on the Grammy performances, and most specifically, Bob Dylan's!

Here's the slam via Twitter:

"Did Bob Dylan forget the sound check? did the engineer drown him out on purpose? a word to the wise: Quit smoking, babe."

Ouch!

While we agree that Bobby didn't sound his absolute best, we were still very happy to see him up there performing!

Especially with those tasty Mumford & Sons!

But we agree with you Bette, bb, he probably should stop smoking! Yuck!

What did U think of Dylan's performance??

Of course it was awful - his last Grammy performance was bad too. You don't invite him to sing to hear good music…he's just there for the 'legend' aspect.

  2. 2

First! And while Dylan didnt sound his best he still got up there. Also, he has been touring for like 25 years, his voice is worn out, plus he doesnt give a flying fuck. He is and always will be a legend of epic proportions!

  3. 3

He is a living legend Bette. You're just jealous because they didn't ask you.

Dylan is so far above Bette it's not even funny.

Pluse his fans know he lost his voice in the 80's.

Dylan can just stand there… he does not have to sing.

  5. 5

    she's right.

  6. 6

I guess this was her first time listening to Dylan since 1967. 45 years have passed Bette….yet you still look like a horse

  7. 7

so i take it you enjoy quantity over quality. what a sad existence. i get it perez you're trying not to step on anymore toes or offend people…but fhucking tell the damn truth on how you REALLY feel.

  8. 8

No he did not sound as good as before but neither did Barb's. At least they were up there…live!!

  9. 9

Bob Dylan is one of the most over rated musicians of all time.

  10. 10

bob dylan never had a good voice. i swear to god, i want to slit my wrists every time i hear him sing…talented song writer though.

  11. 11

You have more class than that Miss M……..shame on you.

  12. 12

Honestly, if you don't like his 'rough' voice at all, then you aren't going to like it on its good days either, so these people shouldn't even be voicing their opinions. This man has been singing for over 50 years; a combination of that, his age, and smoking will all affect a voice. I seen him in concert recently and most of the songs were amazing. His newer songs are more suitable to his voice and therefore sound better when he sings them live. He should have sung one of them but I realize he had to try and sing one of his 'hits.' I don't think the Grammy's helped him either…he almost tripped over some guy's cello and came in late to the song, his harmonica was fucked, and the band was way louder than him so you couldn't hear him anyways.

  13. 13

Bette is such a huge talent. I never understood why she gave it all up to make all those crappy Disney movies.

  14. 14

I loved it! You could tell that Mumford and Sons and the Avett Brothers were loving playing with Dylan.

  15. 15

Bob Dylan sounded terrible, but the Avett Brothers were glorious as always. I like Mumford & Sons but please you guys, give the Avetts a listen. They are sooooooooooooooooo good, and there are no better words than "decide what to be and go be it"!

  16. 16

    Dylan's performance was horrible.

  17. 17

bob dylan doesn't smoke bette midler. get your facts straight. and PS he was asked to perform at the grammy's, not you, so shut it.

  18. 18

It was just awful! I was not sure what the hell was going on but it gave us plenty to laugh at that night.. since it was a boring award show we needed some entertainment.. hahhaa

  19. 19

oh, come on…..even at the top of his game he couldnt sing his way outta a wet paper sack……..great songwriter tho.

  20. 20

Oh! No she didn't. How dare that tone deaf hippopotamus open that big yap of hers. Quick! Someone throw her an African Albino. (from yesterdays post on the Gay African guy)
Even dumber that someone cares enough to post this and yet dumber that I felt compelled to respond to this. I am so pathetic. I am going to go hang my head in shame.

  21. 21

Who cares how he sounded, it's Bob Dylan live! Love him! He's been performing for 50 years. His music will be around after most of the musicians at that awards show are long gone. Barbara Streisand wasn't great either but so what. She is 68, Dylan is 69 and Mick Jagger (who rocked that show) is 67. On their bad days, their music is still better than most newbies on good days…imo.

Re: WendyK – Right on Wendy! She is a horse toothed jackass. May the fleas of 1000 camel infest her crotch.

  23. 23

You are kidding me. Why were my posts removed?

  24. 24

    Re: KEEFER – Very true!!!

  25. 25

Re: bobbyD – about 45 years now, since the 60s

  26. 26

Oh Please. Dyan has sounded like shit for years but we still love him and want to see him.

  27. 27

Bob Dylan was never known for his lovely singing voice. In fact, he's known for the exact opposite. He changed what it meant to be a pop star. Having a good singing voice is nothing but a genetic benefit. It's about as much of a talent as being good looking. Dylan is known because he's a genius writer. A "genetic benefit" far fewer people have.

  28. 28

Bob Dylan is Fucking Awesome and a Living Legend!!!
Oh sorry, guess he should've lipsynced like all the other pop-show douche bags.

  29. 29

Bob Dylan is an overrated old hack who needs to give it up. Have never understood his appeal to be honest. May have been relevant in the 60s but that was a long time ago. Saw him at an outdoor concert last year and it was pitiful.

  30. 30

I didn't hear his Grammy performance, but I saw him in concert over 15 years ago and he sounded rough then - although I don't he's ever been known for a "beautiful" voice, but more for his song writing and music -

  31. 31

Loved the whole performance with his opening acts, Mumford & Sons and Avett Brothers! The Bob Dylan songs they played shows his talent, then he sang. He's been singing like that for years. At least we could still hear the essence of his voice every now and then.

  32. 32

was that performing? he sounds worse than the people who talk through tubes in their throats! ugh! i watched the grammy's with some friends & their kids and the kids were completely freaked out. he is completely overrated.

  33. 33

It was a disgrace. The whole time I was wishing he would cough to clear his throat. His legend was years ago…he seems to have lost it!

Some still got IT- Mick, and some don't - Bob!

  34. 34

I love my Bobby D. I really enjoyed his performance, but I also know not to expect his voice to be just like it was the 60's. There's no in between with Dylan. Either you love him, or hate him. With that said, I wish he would stop smoking.

    35

Too much instruments and not enough vocal. Smokey or not, Dylan's vocals have always been more about his style. Hell, he never tried for the perfect golden note, and probably because that's just not what he went for.

  36. 36

well she right! he has lost his voice

  37. 37

Didn't think he was good at all…
Also, Mick Jagger should give up the day job…

  38. 38

Bette Middler probably has a ax to grind with Dylan. They dated in the early 1970s and they did a duet of Dylan's song "Buckets of Rain" on one her albums. I guess after she became a famous movie star she forgot that.

  39. 39

Don't remember seeing Bette performing at the Grammy Awards - did they forget to ask her? I'd prefer Dylan's singing to her singing any day. the weak part of the performance wasn't Dylan - it was those pretend musicians who tried to play with Dylan and his band. Dylan's voice and harmonica were lost in the mix. Too bad - you couldn't really hear him.
