Detroit Residents Raise $$$ For RoboCop Statue

detroit residents raise money for a robocop statue

It was an important enough film to warrant a place in the prestigious Criterion Collection, so why shouldn't it get a statue?

We haven't heard much lately about Darren Aronofsky's potential reboot of RoboCop, but in the meanwhile, Detroit residents are rebooting it in their own way…by raising $$$ for a robo-statue!

That's right! Detroit residents have already put together over $56,000 for a Robocop statue! Wowza!

Here's what Detroit Mayor Dave Bing had to say about it on his Twitter page:

"There are not any plans to erect a statue to RoboCop. Thank you for the suggestion."

LOLz! Here's what Jerry Paffendorf, a campaign leader for the RoboCop statue's erection had to say about it:

"If people can raise money for something like RoboCop, then they can do it for their neighborhoods or their schools. Sometimes it takes a RoboCop to open up the consciousness of these things."

We'd LOVE to see this happen! Why don't you make a contribution, Eminem! You grew up in Detroit!

What do U think? Should the Mayor of Detroit support this???

      Waste of time and money.

Thats ridiculous, the city of Detroit is a shit hole, if they want to bring Robocop in to save the day - fine, try. But don't spend your less-than-hard earned money on a statue.

Detroiters are their own worst enemy. They elect corrupt officials (like Kwame, the self-proclaimed "hip hop mayor," and Monica Conyers) just because they think they're cool and then they wonder why the city is going to shit. The funny thing is, if Kwame were to run again today, they'd re-elect him in a heartbeat.

They can't raise money for their failing schools, to reconstruct the ghettos or reduce crime, but they have no problem raising money for something as stupid as a statue of Robocop.

I recently moved from living about ten minutes away from Detroit to the west side of Michigan and the difference couldn't be greater. Detroit was once a great city, but sadly, is now the laughing stock of our state.
