Billy Ray's Been Suffering From A Mean Case Of Envy Over His Daughter's Career

| Filed under: Miley CyrusBilly Ray Cyrus

It makes sense, doesn't it?

Think about it. Reeeeally think about it.

When Billy Ray Cyrus came forward to GQ to slam the days he spent and the people involved with Miley Cyrus' Hannah Montana fame, it was clear that this outburst had been a long time coming. Turns out, however, that Billy Ray's tantrum was more out of jealousy than actual concern for his daughter.

We know, shocker right, but actually, we're a bit surprised. Indeed, the spotlight was mainly focused on Miley all the years the duo were on the hit Disney Channel show, which one source claims "always upset" Billy Ray, but as another source clearly points out:

"Let's face it: Hannah Montana revived his career as much as it made Miley's."

Exactly! The residuals from Achy Breaky Heart were already long gone before Miley put on the blonde wig, so this gig was as much for him as it was for her. Besides, all the years they were at the House of Mouse, Billy Ray got thrown a bone more than once - he always had a storyline on the show, he did MORE than few songs on the show's albums and we're sure he got his share of the limelight at events where Miley couldn't make it.

You need to start being thankful for what you did get instead of what you didn't, Billy. And it wouldn't hurt to keep your mouth zipped from now, if you're planning on riding Mileybird's coattails for a few more years.

I think they should both go away myself, just sayin

Billy Ray wasn't Bashing Disney!!. He was simply saying that he regrets getting his daughter into a company that's So strong because the FAME caused problems for his family. As it would for any family… He wasn't saying that Disney broke the family up. And I'm pretty sure that he's not "jealous" of his own daughter?. Being a family man and already getting a taste of fame when he was younger, Billy Ray Cyrus would pick his family over fame and money any day…. You guys really can't make such strong assumptions when you're not apart of the family, or know the whole story… There's so much more going on than these "Sources" opinions.

envy, jealousy??? because of his daughter and disney, HE HAD A CAREER, SOMETHING HE REALLY NEVER HAD BEFORE!!!! Please don't say he was a famous singer, the only song I ever remember, and I AM OLDER THAN MOST HERE, was 'ACHEY BREAKY HEART' and that was one of the LAMEST SONGS EVER!!! and that remained famous for as long as it did, BECAUSE OF HIS MULLET! (or CAROL BRADY, BRADY BUNCH HAIR DO). This WHOLE MESS IS BECAUSE THIS WAS THE FIRST REAL TIME FOR FAME FOR BOTH HIM AND HIS DAUGHTER, the previous 'stint' was a flash in the pan type thing. grow up everyone!

Billy should show a little thanks by getting a decent haircut if he's gonna be out in public!! Google Search keywords "The Media Jerk" to read Heartless criticism of the day's biggest celebrity news stories!!

  6. 6

I think ANYONE WHO HAS A CHILD WHO APPEARS ON A FAMOUS SERIES, should look at how Ron Howard's parents raised him. They made him do 'NORMAL ACTIVITIES' amoung the hollywood crap, like little league and cub scouts. He had to go home and have dinner at a normal time and gave him a NORMAL ALLOWANCE ONLY AFTER HE DID CHORES. He did not attend hollywood parties either. Started at 4 and still going strong, no drug or alcohol problems. dakota fanning and her sister are being brought up much the same way. NEVER LET THE KIDS BE THE BOSS, THEY ARE KIDS!

  7. 7

That is truely sad if Billy Ray cyrus is really jealous over his daughter's success. Considering he was probably the one who took her to the auditions. I just hope they do not become estranged, like many other celebrities. I hope success does not cancel out the rest. Hopefully, this makes their relationship as strong as the characters they potray on Hannah Montana.

how does this qualify as a shocker?
    Miley's dad is a one-hit wonder
    mean while Miley is a
    Multi-Platinum Selling Artist
    Best Selling Author
    Fashion Designer
    Highest Paid Teen in America
1st to have her very own 3D concert Film
star of a 'used-to'be' hit TV series for Disney

Miley has worked harder than Billy Ray has ever had. She's WAY richer than her dad and is WAY MORE FAMOUS than her dad WAS and ever will be. And yet, to this day, I still crack up when ignorant people say "She's only famous cause of her dad"

Re: justtfax – just like Emma Watson and Dakota Fanning. They're huge successful stars, and yet they still go to school like regular kids.

  10. 10

Re: angietimberlake09 – The thing is, Miley never would have gotten the Hannah Montana gig if it wasn't for her last name. While Billy Ray may not have had much of a career, people DID know his name.

  11. 11

Re: justtfax – I agree. I think the parents clearly get more wrapped up in the "celebrity" of it all than the kids do.

  12. 12

Billy Ray CREEPS me out. Ever since he posed with Miley for Vanity
Fair with her lying on him like a lover, I have found him disgusting. He allowed Vanity Fair to photograph her with a sheet wrapped around her. He allowed her to strip pole dance YEARS ago at the Teen Choice Awards and allowed her to shoot a video in a BED ALL before she was 18. Now that she is 18 and he lost legal control of her he flips out and trys to destroy his daughter's career. He did not attend her 18th birthday party and falsely accused Brett Michaels who was quite ill of having an affair with his wife. WTF??

  13. 13

He doesn't envy mileys career! Perez can be such an idiot. Billy Ray would ALWAYS defend miley and disney UNTIL the salvia bong incident happened he is being an angry and cautious father. I don't think there is anything wrong with that

  14. 14

Any parent would do just what he did if they saw an out of control child of theirs heading down a slippery slope which is exactly where his daughter is heading. Remember she's a Disney whore and now that she's been used up and spit out by their machine she's got to exploit herself to keep the cash coming in.

  15. 15

So who are you going to bully next Perez? You spend years picking on the guy asking him why he isn't being a father, then when he acts like one you say he is just jealous. Did you ever watch that show? Imagine it without Billy. Miley would have bored her audience to death years ago. Billy added pizazz and contributed to the show far more than your mean spirited self could ever imagine.

So tell us, when are you going to go on Ellen next and say "yeah, i know some people mistook my new sassy for the same old bully but I would like to try again to be sassy" You are such a liar.

  16. @v@ says – reply to this

Baah. He had a mini-meltdown. It happens. He and Trish are hammering it out after many years. Who or what makes you think he was jealous of a kid? I kinda doubt that.

  17. 17

Could you have put a more unflattering picture of Miley up there? lmao damn.

  18. 18

Re: Brittany928 – so u think Miley wnet to those auditions and say "Hey, I'm Billy Ray Ray Cyrus' daughter" and got the role like that/ No darling, not the case. If that were so, miley would not have had to audition for SIX SOLID MONTHS. Bill Ray didn't even SHOW UP at the audition until AFTER she got the role. Bill Ray got his role after Miley did. So no, this whole "she's only famous cus she's a cyrus " thing is a JOKE. Because if that were so, Billy Ray would be selling WAY more records than concerts than Miley. But he isn't. So technically, it's the other way around.

  19. 19

I think this story is bullshit! He basically blamed fame for the destruction of his family and never really bashed Miley to make us assume he is envy of his own daughter. "Sources" aren't enough Perez!

  20. 20

Re: angietimberlake09 – No, I am saying she never would have been asked to that casting call if she wasn't related to Billy Ray. I don't think you have ANY idea what so ever how the business works.

  21. 21

Perez, you really need a much better research department. Billy Ray was worth more than $100 million when Hannah Montana began. At that time, he had a new album out that was performing better than any other album he had put out in the 2000s–without Hannah Montana. He had just finish starring in a successful four-year run on Doc, his cable TV drama about a country doctor in the big city, he had starred in movies and other TV shows, he had had so much success, in fact, and was so financially secure, that before Hannah Montana came along for Miley Cyrus, he was planning on retiring. It was his wife who talked him into auditioning for Hannah Montana after his daughter got the lead role because she wanted her entire family in one place, together. Go back and read that GQ interview: Billy isn't suffering from jealousy, he's suffering from severe clinical depression–that obviously needs psychiatric treatment. Since he revealed his mental illness in public, instead of kicking him when he's down, you ought to be urging him to get psychiatric help before it's too late.

  22. 22

Perez, Billy Ray was far more financially secure before Hannah Montana began than you seem to realize. For example, when he moved his family to Los Angeles so he and his daughter could star in Hannah Montana, he had a house built for them costing close to $7 million. Compare that to Demi Lovato, who, just a teenager, had to rent a house for her family in the same neighborhood because her parents couldn't afford even a modest home without the help of their daughter. Billy Ray Cyrus was as rich as he was because he had a smart wife who looked after all his money in the early-to-mid 90s when it was rolling like like a blizzard. They were not an extravagant family. They lived on a working 500 acre farm, from which Billy always has had income, not outgo as most stars have with their properties. So, Perez, it's incredible to me how wrong you can be and how often you are wrong, especially since these are public facts available to anyone who does a bit of internet research.

  23. 23

Brittany928, it's obvious that you don't have a clue "how the business works," or you would realize that when the producers of Hannah Montana chose Miley Cyrus after auditioning 1,500 girls, who Cyrus knew or who's daughter she was was meaningless. Fame may get you in the door, but it rarely gets you the part. Those producers recognize the raw karisma that TV audiences all over the world recognized when they made Hanna Montana the Disney Channel's all-time most successful sit-com. That's the same karisma that made Miley Cyrus a superstar. I always like to come significant numbers and statistics on these kinds of questions: take for example, Miley Cyrus' net worth, which, according to Celebrity Net Worth, is $120 million. Now compare that to Demi Lovato's net worth, $3 million, and Selena Gomez' net worth, $4 million, and you begin to see that there is a quantifiable difference in the level of talent and karisma that comes out in dollars and cents.

  24. 24

Re: laythisdown – All I took from your reply was "fame may get you through the door." Forget anything beyond the initial audition. THE ONLY reason she even got that audition was because "fame got her through the door." Not to mention she played a minor part on Billy Ray's show, "Doc," and in the movie, "Big Fish." My best guess… she also got those parts because of who her father is.

  25. @v@ says – reply to this

Re: laythisdown – Talent and charisma, all three girls have. Add snagging a great role (time and place), and UBER marketing = quantifiable monetary gain. These are the same type of people who marketed a chia pet and made millions, seriously; so Miley's fortunate time-ing (and place) was that she was picked as the next flavor favorite of the organization. Considering that the Latino market is smaller, then no surprise there that she would trump the other two demographically only. Miley is a super product. She also has, through all of the mentoring and backing, developed some skills and savvy.

  26. 26

I have said this for a very long time and I even posted it on here so now all of a sudden it's breaking news. Yeah right. It's just common sense that he would become jealous of her cuz he was a 15 min man and she was a hit. Why, I will never understand but that's here nor there. All he is doing now is hurting his cash cow's feelings so he better behave and watch what he says or he will be working at Home Depot or Wal Mart as a greeter.

  27. 27

Instead of spending your time making shit like this up, Perez, you might turn your brain to something useful and SFTU. I don't give a rat's ass about Billy Ray or his daughter. But Miley wouldn't HAVE a career if it wasn't for her father's connections. Yeah, he had that awful Achy song, and it truly sucked. But she wouldn't be where she is now if he hadn't had his career FIRST. I swear to god you spin these yarns just so you can moralize, and you're the LAST person to be giving ANY kind of advice. You make your living on the backs of the famous, you bottom-feeder. Do us all a favor and post only what you can verify instead of making up stories. You are seriously a nitwit and you have NO conscience.

her face makes me want to vomit.

Having been to a Disney audition myself and knowing some kids who have worked for Disney, I know the type they want. They want very high energy kids that have a lot of personality. The company wants very "cheerful" kids who are almost on the hyper end. That's how they get their work finished. There's only so many kids like that. Dakota Fanning for example, if she had been going in as a kid actress without being famous prior would have never gotten a job at Disney at first glance, because she is not the type they want– at least now a days. Miley Cyrus perfectly fits what type of kid actors they select. Have you seen her audition tapes? Yeah. Exactly. They want just very "expressive" kids. They selected her because of that. They want some kid that will be able to work long hours, travel and meet people. They don't give much thought to whether they have that much talent. If they can read a line without flubbing and speaking clearly, you're in. I am not surprised Miley got her stint on Hannah Montana. I don't think it had much to do with Billy Ray Cyrus– that was just a "huh" factor that made the judges think, well, she can probably sing then if she comes from a musical family. That's literally all that Billy Ray Cyrus did for her was give her a moments consideration.

  31. 31

Was it so wrong for him to feel badly watching Miley smoke a bong?? No father wants to see that. He was thinking his child was perfect, that is all.

  32. 32

Oh whatever he can be jealous. She's over just like he is. Miley is a has-been. She disappeared after that bong incident and I haven't heard her brought up since. And even before that, it was bad shit. I mean with the whole photoshoot, her crotch "accidentally" getting exposed on stage, and the naked pictures, nobody liked her before that the bong thing happened and now that happened well shes done. Goodbye Miley.

  33. 33

Well duh. He's looking at his slutty frump of a talentless daughter and wondering, WHY IS THIS NOT ME?

  34. 34

Oh come on! Why is everyone still treating this girl like shes a saint??? Obviously shes outta control. and her dad has every right to be mad about it. Hes her father, why cant everyone stay out of there business? Either this is all for the publicity or whatever, but im sick of all this Miley/Billy Ray crap!

  35. 35

dear perez is that what you got out of from reading the gq article? that his just jealous of his daughter?!!!! i thought you've change and only see goodness from people!!! any parents you ask that read that article can understand that it was a cry for help! his daughter is out of control!!!!! i know what teenager is like! i've been one and its not 1969. not all teenagers take half naked photos of themselves, not all teenagers give gay guys a lap dance, not all teenagers smoke weed and think there cool, ask taylor swift or selena gomez on how to act like a teenager!obviously her dad tried everything and his daughter think shes better than him. obviously hes calling her out to the media so that she would be embarrass and regret disobeying her parent. but obviously it backfired bec people like you thought his doing it to get press on himself! helllooooo. perez when you become a parent you would understand if you have a daughter like miley cyrus. i doubt you can deal with her behind close doors. bec shes too busy taking salvia and act edgy to deal with u!!!!!1

  36. 36

Come on, you don't know how genuinely concerned he might be. It's completely understandable that ANYONE would be worried if Miley was their daughter.

  37. 37

Does anyone else feel like there's a little smear campaign going on? I read the GQ article, and while I do think there's an element of the father looking back at his parenting of Miley with a rose-tinted/victimised view, a lot of the basic principals of his gripe I think are valid… as in, his daughter became part of a machine that was bigger than his family or himself, ultimately his family became fractured and broken, rendering it even more difficult to face down the Disney machine.

Billy spoke out against the 'minders', the people in control of planning her career etc … so is it any wonder than all of a sudden 'sources' are coming out against him, undermining his position as father? This is exactly what he was talking about!

  38. 38

well, since u dont like it, just give back all the money and then go jump off a bridge u ungrateful morons.
