Anne was actually (shockingly) very funny during her job as Host which shocked me! :) I would have thought James would have pulled it off more then she did but NOPE she held it down VERY well. Go Anne, and she looked sexy as all hell while doing it which is a major plus! :)

I had really high hopes for Mr. Franco but he underperformed, for sure. Perhaps it was his workload at Yale that made the impact? Whatever it was as a viewer, I expected more from him. I'm a huge fan of his so naturally I wanted to see more. I am, however, not about to quit watching his movies. Keep your chin up James! Your fans still love ya.

As for Anne, she was phenomenal. Didn't expect any less.

It wouldn't have hurt if James Franco smiled more often while presenting.. there was something really off about him yesterday…

He was very, very good. If anything, he looked a little green around the gills - as if he didn't feel well. His dry, droll sense of humor actually compensated for AnnE's bubbly enthusiasm. They balanced each other out very well. Keep in perspective that he's also a student, getting soap experience for the experience & a nominee for the most prestigous Oscar award in the HIGHEST category. (Hmmm - could he have been ANXIOUS???). On top of all that, ADD to that, being a host for said award show & he was Great. His willingness to poke fun at himself was endearing for all he's accomplished. His resume is highly impressive compared to others. Brilliant James.

anna made my night. next year im thinking maybe just her? best hosting job of the last 15 years(cant say any farther back because well, i didnt see them!)

Whoopi, Billy Crystal, Steve Martin, David Letterman, even Jon Stewart, what a joke, what was Hollywood trying to pull by selling us Anne and James before releasing their films this year. What studios have advantage now? This was self-promotion, publicity, but little to do with the Hollywood that started the Oscar ceremonies at the Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood. Yes, some of us study the History of Film. Gable, Cagney, Garson, Taylor, I am not sure Anne and James earned this opportunity, and that fact that we have to ask about our comedians in question says volumes about the decision to cast the two at the Oscars.

    They were both great!!

I'm glad they asked James and Anne to host.. Actually I'm just glad James Franco was there at all.. considering how he wasn't going to attend if he was just nominated for his award.. he was going to skip the Oscars to attend his class at Yale!

Annie is an oldskool entertainer, she puts in the effort and it might be a little over the top but it's entertaining and much appreciated. I do not understand how James Franco is where is he is in the industry, I hope he disappears, FAST.

Said best…"Franco stood in for all those actors who (sincerely or not) project a disinterested nonchalance about being embraced by the Academy, while Hathaway was the eager beaver who desperately wanted to be accepted."

  10. 10

I thought they were…awkward. Anne's constant woo-hooing in the background was annoying, and James seemed uncomfortable or irritated. Not my favorite hosts by far.

  11. 11

    Franco was bad.
    Hathaway was good.
    Kirk Douglas was awesome.

Notice how Franco kind of disappeared halfway through the show and Hathaway kind of took over.

  12. 12

James Franco looked like he didn't want to be there. Anne was good.

  13. 13

THEY BOTH SUCKED BIG TIME!!!!! SO AWKWARD AND THEIR JOKES ALL SUCKED FOR THE MOST PART. NOTE THAT BILLY CRYSTAL GOT A STANDING OVATION AND WAS WAAAY FUNNIER IN HIS MONOLOGUE. WTF IDEA WAS TO HIRE THE 2 TEENAGERS, SRUSLY?? BILLY DID BETTER IN THAT 5 MIN THAN THOSE 2 IDIOTS DID IN THE WHOLE SHOW!! BRING BACK BILLY OR RICKY GERVAIS FOR NEXT YEAR. THAT WAS FUCKING LAME!!!!!!

  14. 14

I didn't love it. Next year they need to call Ricky. Maybe he can liven things up at the staid and boring OSCARS. :D

  15. 15

Anne did an amazing Job! i love her! she totally carried the show! She was funny, enthusiastic, and she seemed like she wanted to be there! unlike her co host! James franco was boring, lifeless, and high as hell! I totally would love to smoke a blunt with him but not let him ever host the oscars again! Anne all the Way!

  16. 16

Re: Cristina CaetanoRe: Cristina Caetano – Off?! He seemed completely stoned. And she was even perkier than usual - maybe they were going for the Cannabis and coke demographic. Utter fail.

  17. 17

HORRIBLE the whole entire show was a disgrace
EMBARRASSED for her! disturbing to watch
all her hooting and hollaring, yelling "YEAH!!!!!" and "woooooooHOOOO"
    ummm NO
she should have hosted the VMAs if she was going to act all trashy like that
    MONSTROSITY to say the least
the 2 of them brought the class level down to a 2
she made a fool out of herself

  18. 18

They were dreadful! There was no interaction or chemistry between them whatsoever. James was perfectly wooden. As cute as he is, he gave the impression of someone with a stick shoved up his a**. He basically sleepwalked his way through the show. And what was with the squinting - put on some glasses dude!
Anne did a much better job but her efforts at being entertaining were hampered by the presence of that stiff guy next to her all evening. She IS fun - James was not a good match for her at all.
    Overall - a boring show!

  19. 19

I was expecting better, come one this two have talent. Anne did great, as for James I was disappointed. He looked tired and as if he didn't want to be there. Next year I say Anne and Hugh Jackman!

  20. 20

Horrible Horrible!!!!! Anne was way too eager, all she needed were pom poms and a bullhorn…..James needed another blunt; his blase attitude was soooooo effected and trite - too cool for the Oscars maaaaaan. I called it, I knew they were going to be crap! It was hysterical when Billy Crystal came out and the whole audience stood as if to say "please please, don't leave us with them!"

  21. 21

There was NO MAGIC, no za za zoo, no really great/memorial moments: THAT'S WHAT HAPPEN WHEN THERE'S NO DIVERSITY–the program became a program where awards are given out.

Next time, HIRE A COMEDIAN, it wasn't funny at all, just polite laughter here and there. Ann was TOO MUCH, and James was not enough. Whoopi or Billy would have done MUCH better.

  22. 22

there is a reason why comedians do the late night shows and dramatic actors DON'T. and that reason is why comedians should continue to do the Oscars, emmies, and EVERYTHING ELSE. as long as they stay away FROM THE POLITICAL JOKES.

It was really akward seeing the two up there and not a more seasoned professional. I know they wanted to get a younger demographic this year, but are two medeocre actors the way to go? I know Anne is a good actor and she did an ok job, but the opening skit felt forced and a dedcade late, James went by on his dopey smirk in exchange for being interesting - seriously, does he have a cataloge besides that 128 Days where he's even shown real acting chops? I think I've only seem him in Spiderman (sorry, I haven't seen his latest cause it looks kinda boring). They really should have went for a commedian this year - this year you can tell that everything Anne & James said was written and nothing was off the cuff. It was almost a slap in the face to Kathy Griffen that they didn't go with someone with real comedy talent - I'm sure she would have kept her act tame…or not - but that would have made for a much better 3 hour show. I know she doesn't have much acting under her belt, but at least she's talked about almost everyone in attendance at one point or another. Or even Jimmy Kimmel - he's already on ABC, and is acceptably funny. They kept hyping 'this show will a different Oscars' when all it was was more boring than usual…and that's a tough act to follow. They should have taken a que from The Grammys - that was a much better show this year than usual.

I LOVED James last night. I don't know why everyone is complaining. I guess it is not the humor everyone is used to. He is just a laid back sarcastic guy and I think Anne's over the top happiness and Franco's calmness worked GREAT together. I thought it was an awesome night. I thought the opening was funny, the "musical" part was the best thing of the night, and I think everything went great!

    Next year, JOAN RIVERS!

  27. 27

Franco phoned it in, acted like he didn't really want to be there.
