Texas Association Offering Scholarships…To White Men

texas association to offer scholarships for white men

This is certainly bound to stir up some controversy.

A new Texas-based non-profit, Former Majority Association for Equality, will offer scholarships for Caucasian males. The group claims there are many scholarships for women, minorities, and certain religious groups, but not enough for white men.

Here's what association founder Colby Bohannan had to say about it:

"We know that we're going to be receiving some vicious attacks, from people claiming that we are racists, or promoting some bigotry-filled agenda."

"Our aim is actually just to help students. We are not trying to jump on any political agenda or bandwagon."

"We're not looking for blond-haired, blue-eyed, stereotypical white males. My feeling is that if you can say you're 25 percent Caucasian, you're Caucasian enough for us."

We certainly think everyone should have the opportunity to apply for scholarships, including white men, but we can definitely see how this might not sit well with people.

Thoughts???

Why is this so bad? I'm a white college student and can't get any scholarships. The vast majority of scholarships now are only available to minorities, at least the ones in the California State University system.

Re: NookiesWA – - Boohoo, men have to take down boxes. Men also don't have to deal with pregnancy.

Well its about god damn time. There's scholarships for many minorities but god forbid there be one for white people. Theres latino history month, black history month, but if theres white history month we'd be racist. Geez whites are seemingly becoming the minority now and its ridiculous. My brother went to Med School and it was so frustrating for him to get scholarships he had fantastic grades and all but he wasn't Asian, Indian, Native American, or African American.
These things should be measured by a persons ability not by their race and certainly not because their ancestors were repressed. Not to sound like a racist here but FYI blacks weren't the only type of slaves.
Good god. White by nature. PROUD by choice.

If they're going to bitch about this, then it's time to disband the United Negro College Fund.

    Where do I donate?

Re: bernadotte – Thanks for trying but these idiots will not see it. The amount of whining about how whites are prejudiced against and have no opportunities these days is just insane. It's seriously insane. I wonder if these idiots would say those kinds of things face to face? Are they just trolls? I have my suspicions about caravaggio. But most of them are just idiots. "POOOOOR LITTLE WHITE BOY!!!!!!!!!!" Seriously?! I don't know if it's racist but it's certainly pathetic.
And I don't really know what I think about the scholarship I'm just referring to these comments.
But thanks for trying, where did you get that patience?!
(btw I am white for anybody who might bitch at my about this)
Go make your "white pride month" so that I can see exactly who to try never to come near ever in my life. Please. You should wear t-shirts too.

Re: La Garse – Barriers and difficulty with upward mobility dramatically affect people of color and women. This "white male" program is just reinforcing the power of the "white man".

White men have the invisible privilege of being male and being white.

It's not fair because white men are born with invisible privilege while people of color and women face barriers everyday.

Go to college and learn about the system and then open your mouth because you're just feeding into the ignorance and stupidity. It's not even about being racist. It's about being uneducated and uninformed.

I am a 20 year old white female. My mom is a school teacher and step-dad is a supervisor at a refinery. We are very much a part of the working middle class. I was salutatorian of my graduating class of 215 students and got NOTHING. FAFSA decided my parents made too much money (together) for me to get any financial aid. A hispanic girl on my basketball team who was no where near me in class rank/extracurriculars got a FULL RIDE to a private university in San Antonio. Now I'm going to have $30K+ in student loans. Were more scholarships like this available, I might have gotten something. But my hardwork to create a fool-proof college entrance resume (extracurriculars, a stellar GPA, etc.) was basically all for nothing because my family is white and, deemed by some financial association, too rich (we are by NO means rich - my parents are putting my younger brother through college as well). At least if I couldn't receive any money for my hard work and financial state as a middle class Caucasian, some others of the same demographic will. It breaks my heart. Major props, FMAE!

Re: Nellygrl – Thank you. May I just add that "Caucasian, hetero, young, males…are the majority group in this country. By that I mean they wield institutional power. And so to read in this thread that "whites" are treated like shit, it's laughable at best.

  10. 110

I am a minority and I see nothing wrong with this. They have the United Negro College Fund, Latin American college funds, Asian American college funds, etc. It is only fair. Those who call it racist are small minded and clearly one sided.

Re: Cha_Cha_the famous – I'm all for this, but people also get scholarships and stipends based on how well they do in school.

  12. 112

how is this any different from any other PRIVATELY funded scholarship? dont try to make it something its not

  13. 113

Re: Heytheregina – LOL, Thats the only excuse women have when they are called out on their uselessness. But then again, If we only had a single excuse we'd use it till we were blue in the face as well.

You forgot you also get paid paternity leave. Idiot. Feminist are generally dumb as hell its amusing.

  14. 114

Re: Heytheregina – You also missed the main point of my argument. A male has to do EXTRA work (manual labor which is more difficult) solely because hes a male. Goddamn I hate idiots that cannot take 3 seconds to think..oi Americans.

  15. 115

The scholarships should be offered to those who are qualified regardless of gender or ethnic backround.
Stock market and most high powered jobs are being flooded with white males so to say that white males are now under-priviledged is ridiculous.

Re: Mancunian – Just because she has the same job and credentials as everyone else does not mean she can do her job as good as others. Shes probably incompetent/slow paced, etc. People don't make equal money for the same exact job because not everyone does their job -WELL-.

Your mother making less money isn't because shes a woman. It's more than likely because shes just not a good worker.
