Shame On You, Andy Cohen!

This is just shameful!

While James Franco has been the recipient of most of the criticism regarding this year's Academy Awards, Bravo's Andy Cohen has instead chosen to lash out the PS 22 Chorus' performance of Somewhere Over The Rainbow at the end of the ceremony!

He says:

"There was a thing called ‘Up With People’ in the ’70s or ’80s. … Oscar night is not about 'Up With People.' Like, I don’t need to see that. It was just bad. It was just awful. It was horrible. A public school chorus singing Somewhere Over The Rainbow? I literally, if I wasn’t going to go out to some parties, I would have slit them right then. It was the worst. I was looking for a knife to stick in my eyes. It was so terrible. Not the time. Everything has its time and place; the end of the Oscars? We don't want to see this. You just ruined everything."

Wow. Just so uncalled for and waaay too far!

You didn't have to like it, but there is NO need to be this cruel to a group of children!

ESPECIALLY when your idea of a musical performance is having Kim Zolciak or Danielle Staub croak out whatever auto-tuned abomination they've decided to curse the world with on Watch What Happens!

So unfair and mean!

What do U think?? Did Andy take it too far??

The only reason you liked it is because Over the Rainbow is the gay anthem. Not everyone likes gays. Get use to it.

  2. 2

i usually like him and think what he says is funny. but that is just rude, its a group of amzing kids that had an amazing experience. i cant believe he said that, he should have kept that to himself. he is the jack hole of the week.

  3. 3

He's right about the fact that they sucked. I just didn't get it. They also kept zooming in on kids that clearly weren't singing/lip synching the correct words.

  4. 4

He is not allowed an opinion because it doesn't match yours?

  5. 5

you moron, clearly he's not talking about the kids themselves, he's talking about the producers of the oscars thinking this was a good idea- which it wasn't. It was saccharine, had no place, it was incredibly cheesy, and not for nothing- it's the OSCARS- could they not have put these rug rats in tuxes and dresses??

  6. 6

NO! Those kids were TERRIBLE! Go @bravoandy!

  7. 7

Perez…hate to say but you are sooo far off base with this one…Andy is right the whole school chorus thing was stupid and so not high class like the Oscars should be. Whatever they tried to do this year to update, bring into the mainstream, more youthful….really backfired on them. Soooo tacky and yes where are the razor blades so I can end it now sort of feeling…hey Perez I have some extra razor blades for you.

  8. 8

i freakin agree with him. being mean to james franco n all the other ppl u condone because some of them are honest though a lot of people are idiots. i love reading this shit but ive now realized this is all a high school. this is what people try and spoof. because its like a big gossip magazine about people who are richer than everyone. its crazy. liek the oc

  9. 9

Sorry to the kids, they were great, but Andy is right. That was awful, and unnecessary. Worst. Broadcast. Ever.

  10. 10

    I totally agree with him.

  11. 11

I'm not a complete kid hater, but I was kind of wondering what the big deal about some crappy kid's choir too. And I think he's right, they can sing at the Thanksgiving parade, but the Oscars? Please.

  12. 12

Sure, there shouldn'tve been a children's chorus at the Oscars but then again…who IS this loser?!

  13. Heh says – reply to this

    13

Lucky for him there is one person in the world who cares enough about this to give him the publicity he is seeking ..Good job !!

  14. 14

Yeah I mean his comments did kind of suck. But he already apologized on Watch What Happens last night and made himself the Jack Hole of the week. Cut him some slack.

  15. 15

sorry but i thought the children singing 'somewhere over the rainbow' was so corny.

  16. 16

I agree with him, it was not the time for that..at all., bad choice from producers.!

  17. 17

I kind of agree with him, I would have rathered that they had incorporated them into the show not the grand finale…..ok they are kids they are cute, but come on…it's the Oscars, there is no connection to them to anything with the Oscars. If they had sung Somewhere Over The Rainbow during the memorium then it may have been relevant, but instead we had Celine, but there is no connection, and it wasnt a grand finale worthy performance.

  18. 18

no, he's right. I don't see what the big deal about that chorus is in general. They aren't THAT good. I agree - the Oscars was a horrible place for them to sing and who gives a crap about Over the Rainbow anymore. The whole ceremony was pretty lame this year.

  19. 19

I agree with Andy wholeheartedly…..not the time nor the place. You're out of your league with Andy Cohen fucktard, don't fuck with him….he'll eat you alive then spit you out because he gagged on you!

  20. emmz says – reply to this

    20

andy is right. plus he apologized on his show for it last night. so…way to go again on your speedy celebrity news. read your audience: we agree with andy.

  21. 21

Its the Oscars…crap like that should not be on there. Save it for some other show like American Idol

  22. 22

Re: Mad Dog – Ummm…. you do realize Andy Cohen is gay right?

  23. 23

OMG! He's so absolutely and totally correct! Even if they were great, which they're not, they're just oh how cute and adorable, they have no place at the Academy Awards. The Academy Awards are about celebrating the very finest professional memorable historical artists in film. And you end this event with a school choir? From Staten Island? I get that they wanted to make a statement about supporting the arts in education, but to make that into the finale of the biggest night of the year? This is not amateur night. F.

  24. 24

Well, Perez, it was lame and you know it. Most of these kids don't even know who he is or will read this comment anyway. When they are at an age, where they will, not care.
You being gay should know most of the men have a flair for the dramatics and live for embellishing.

  25. 25

The kids are KIDS. You expect them to be Xtina level singers? Seriously? Andy is allowed to have an opinion as is Perez who posted this blog post with his opinion on what Andy said. He definitely took it too far. I mean, if somebody said this about his show.. he could deal with it. But a class of fifth graders? He obviously was bullied as a child and sees it fit to speak as an adult to a child. If anything is cheesy, it's his show. It can be funny at times but it's kitchy at best.

  26. 26

someone's gotten a little too big for his britches. he stirs up the shit and while he used to seem sweet and likeable, he is utterly hateful and cruel now. i'm so sick of it. he was an idiot to Christy last night too. . youve become so egotistical….go back to the office, andy.

  27. 27

He's right but he could have said it in less words like I didn't like it and thought it would have been better suited for another event jeez lol.

  28. 28

I agree, but not to that extent. I just don't think it necessary to invite a school choir to the oscars. I have never heard a child singing that made me think, "Yeah, they`re really good.` It was definately unnecessary because the ceremony was hanging by a thread and then they cheese it up like a toddler pageant.

  29. 29

Andy has the right to his opinion. I commend him for being honest. I love that he doesn't feel he has to be PC all the time.

  30. 30

I never heard of this guy, but I guess he wanted to generate some publicity for himself. Still not interested in him or his show.

  31. 31

i seriously didnt like it at the end of the show either.
it was a silly thing to do.

AND i honestly think that "somewhere over the rainbow" is a song that shouldnt be touched. even if its a cute kid choir singing it.
its JUDY GARLAND for crying out loud ! lol

  32. 32

Re: 1Gr8ParrotHead – I got to agree with you on that.

  33. 33

You are a little late on this one. If you'd watched his Watch What Happens Live last night, you would've seen that he already apologized for his comments AND gave himself the "Jackhole of the week" award.

  34. 34

He already apologized on Watch What Happens Live last night ! He named himself the "Jackhole of the Week" for making those comments ! So get over it !

  35. 35

Kim Z does suck, but he has a point. They had no place at the Oscars.

  36. 36

well perez, he was cruel and mean and tried to hurt people you like. you've done that too, remember! anyway, the chorus performance was amazing, perfect, beautiful, awesome… i rather not even try to compliment the performance cause i'm cheering up for those kids. i'm so happy for them and they did a great number. and to be honest, kissing actors/gods asses is so so boring!

  37. 37

I agree with Andy - they sucked and shouldn't have been on. Grow up Perez you have the worse taste in everything. Your just jealous that Andy said what you were thinking - however, the "new Perez" can't say it.

  38. 38

I have known of the chorus for years…Can't say the same about this guy…Who is he? Give the kids a break and everybody at the Oscars….They were trying for something different…so what if it failed…Live and learn.

  39. 39

I guess I am clueless. I thought it a lovely low key version of the song. Looked to me like the audience ate it up. Seemed a perfect way to end the show.

  40. 40

its not that the kids sucked…cause people are gonna have their opinion on that seperately, but its the fact that a bunch of kids jump on the stage at the ACADEMY AWARDS to sing a freaking song… i dont know, when i saw that i was like…how random and out of place…

  41. 41

He's right… I wanted to puke when I saw those kids sing. Very corny….

  42. barb says – reply to this

    42

Andys words are nothing compared to how you are or were(what ever) 3 months ago. It wasn't very good even though the kids are really cute.

  43. 43

Funny coming from someone who has called numerous people fat ( another hypicritical thing because you were huge!), and has drawn cum coming from celebrities mouths, as well as just being one of the biggest bullies for celebrities…. yeah you've for know turned a new leaf but this is hypicritical.. and do you think andy really likes having the RHWives sing probably not but its his job, yeah there kids but its not like he would really act out on any of it, its for entertainment and to get people talking like you your self have done… so look in the mirror.

  44. 44

He is right- the entire night was a misguided poorly produced show. I still like AH, she was just doing what she was hired to do– it's the bad producers, the kids looked goofy like they were all on something waving around like drones.

  45. 45

Shutup Perez. Everyone is entitled to an opinion. I hate that song, but love the PS22 chorus.

  46. 46

I agree with him but the whole night was a mess from the word go.

  47. 47

he's 100% right. I shut my tv off instantly, in complete disgust. That was the finest of all the Oscar-winning songs (never mind what Oblahma said) and…yuck! and NOT the venue for it.

  48. 48

Sorry Perez, Andy is right. I was like WTF??? when the PS-22 came out and then when I heard what they were singing it was really time to turn the channel. There is a place for them to sing it just wasn't at the Oscars bad choice by the producers because it sucked. Once again Perez = 0 (zero).

  49. 49

Ok, I'll have to agree with Andy on this one. It was dumb, and out of place. Although I'm sure it's something those kids will remember forever, put them on a different show. Their performance had nothing to do with movies.

Also, saying that "not everyone likes gays", Mad Dog….Andy IS gay. Soooo stop being a bigot.

  50. 50

I'd like to see the context of this, because something tells me it would make a lot more sense. Doesn't sound like something Andy would say.

  51. 51

not everyone has to like gays, that's true. but this guy works for Bravo … I'm sure he doesn't have a problem with them. He's a mean guy, and that sucks. You should get used it, Mad Dog, seeing as you come off that way too

  52. 52

I thought it was a stupid way to end the Oscars too. Being a celebrity he didn't need to say that but I agree with what he said. If they were gonna use those kids stick them mid show not at the end.

  53. 53

@Mad Dog - Andy is gay too. Get your facts straight and don't be so effing closed minded. If Andy really meant this towards the kids, then bad Andy, no bueno! But, maybe we should ask for an explanation as to what he meant. Let's hear his side too.

  54. 54

FYI - he apologize for his comments on live television last night.

  55. 55

didn't care for it at all. Andy was right. Maybe what he said was a little over the top but still I agree with him.

  56. 56

WHAT'S FUNNY IS ANDY COHEN IS GAAAAY AND DISAGREES WITH FAT ASS!! JUST PROOF FAT BOY IS OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY IN HIS CUT & PASTE BLOG. NEXT!!

  57. 57

The kids were great but I don't see the point why they should perform in the Oscars. I agree with Andy.

  58. 58

DAMN STRAIGHT! How DARE those Oscar producers gather a bunch of kids to sing a uplifting song at the end of the MOST IMPORTANT thing to happen every year! I mean kids? singing? to the most important people on the planet? That's just bullsh*t! How DARE they force not only the stars, but those of us at home (and with out remotes) to listen to those little bastards wheeze out a sh*tty version of that Wizard of Oz song! Shame on those producers! But more to the point, shame on those kids for getting up on the stage, and in neon colored T-Shirts? I mean what the hell were they thinking? I think its safe to say those P22 school kids will be all over the worst dressed list. Joan Rives and her turkey neck are going to tear those little kiddies a new fas-hole! I mean seriously, we don't want to see the youth of America on our TV screens, unless they are 16 and dancing on stripper poles! Those kids are not Natalie Portman or Huge Grant and they are certainly not Justin Bieber. So them being there, singing that song, was an offense to not only the art of music but to every great star who has ever walked across that Oscar stage! It is completely unacceptable to let rich, beautiful and important people get the ears raped my multi-cultural 5th graders. Absolutely…f*cking. Disgusting. Those kids ruined everything, their parents should beat them to teach them a lesson about offending the rich and famous with the sound of their underdeveloped voices.

  59. 59

I AM SO DISSAPOINTED IN YOU ANDY.I THOUGHT YOU WERE BETTER THAN THAT..ON MY RESPECT METER.YOU JUST DROPPED TO THE BOTTOM…P.S THOSE CHILDREN SHOULD HAVE BEEN PUT ON IN THE BEGINNING.PEOPLE…….GET A CLUE…….

  60. 60

Boo freaken hoo, Perez. He didn't like it. So what? Nobody understood the point of those kids. I LOVE Andy Cohen! He is RARELY mean spirited or rude… unlike SOME people who shall remain nameless. Even with your new leaf turned, you still say things that are more "mean" than this on a daily basis. Get over it! Andy Cohen is a class act. Don't hate just because Andy has an opinion that differs from yours.

  61. 61

I thought it was super lame! It had no business being presented at the Oscars. Maybe the Grammys. It looked like they were lip-syncing anyway.

  62. 62

Perez, he was exaggerating and you have said MUCH worse. I happen to agree with Andy!

  63. WTF35 says – reply to this

    63

I think they are a lovely chorus but he's right, it was very inappropriate for the Oscars. They should have had them sing the nominate song or be part of the opening number. It made no sense to have the chorus at the end.

Also I'm not real fond of the twitchy choreography, it looked very awkward, like all the children had tics.

  64. 64

Re: Taylor Harris – Andy is gay….

  65. 65

All of the commenters here don't seem to understand the true problem with what Andy Cohen said. Sure, the PS22 chorus may have been out of place and an unnecessary performance at the Oscars. I mean, I enjoyed it, and "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" is a classic movie song, but it wasn't exactly needed after such a long night.
HOWEVER, what Andy said went WAY too far. First of all, it wasn't an awful as he made it out to be. But more importantly, you shouldn't tear down a group of young children like that! They are very impressionable and very easy to hurt. It's not like none of them would ever see/hear this! He should be ashamed of his outburst. I, for one, think that this is one of those moments where if you have nothing nice to say, you shouldn't say anything at all!

  66. 66

Wow, he must really not have any clue of what is going on in the world if a children's chorus bothers him so much. Andy Cohen is SHALLOWDOWN. It's like he's perfected his gay snarky friend act from high school that is all about the most cutting insult and aesthetics and has nooo substance. Look at the shows he produces. This is why Bethenny Frankel has a show and Nene is a cultural icon.

  67. 67

And another thing, I think the producers biggest mistake was putting a dress on James Franco and thinking THAT would be so highlarious. It's like, really? It's 2011 boys. You can take that turkety out of the oven ’cause it's done, sweetie.

  68. 68

HE WAS RIGHT ON. IT DIDNT BELONG AT THE OSCARS. IM TRIED OF THESE KIDS BEING SHOVED AT US.IE. BIEBER, WILLOW AND THE REST OF THOSE UNTALENTED KIDS””

  69. 69

Re: Mad Dog – not everyone likes gays, but not everyone likes homophobic ignorant people either. so why dont you get used to it?

kids are cute. kids singing, are cute. saying you want to murder a chorus of 5th graders, is ridiculous. no need for the violent comments from anybody. we need peace in this world.

  70. 70

I have to say i love kids… but Andy was right!!!! Maybe i wouldn't put it the way he did .. but these kids were all over the place… they sucked.. i had to look them up to see if they were a chorus with mental illness.

  71. 71

WOW Perez 2 for 2 on how ridiculous you sound this week. It's clear that Andy was refering to the bad call the producers made on having the kids close the show, it was truly out of left field for me and way to terrible end an already boring show.

You seriously need to stop trying to instigate drama.. you're the biggest culprit of them all. I thought you pledge to sotp you're bullying ways. I'm so disappointed in you. When you first started you had entertainment and brought truth, now you're just as phony as other blogs.

  72. 72

Uh he could have just said he didn't like it, it wasn't the proper time or place, he didn't have to carry on about stabbing out his eyes. BTW, where did he say this? To a couple friends over a beer, or an issued statement? Take it for what it's worth.

  73. 73

It was cheesy and sucked. He's totally right. The Oscars is not the place for kid's choirs.

  74. 74

He's a jerk- a rude jerk. Those kids and their instructor felt honored to be there and Andy Cohen walks in with his "no way, girlfriend" sense of humor and belittles a group of KIDS. Look at the piece-of-crap shows he puts on the air. Trash, pure trash. Who cares about the song choice?!?!? It a GROUP OF KIDS!!! I hate it when grown people act like 8-year-olds. He has a right to his opinion. Could he not have said that he didn't like them? But no, he has to get all dramatic with the slitting of his wrists and poking knives in his eyes!!! Trying to be so funny at kids' expense. He's a drama queen. He hangs around those "housewives" all day and has forgotten how to be NICE.

  75. 75

"ESPECIALLY when your idea of a musical performance is having Kim Zolciak or Danielle Staub croak out whatever auto-tuned abomination they've decided to curse the world with on Watch What Happens!"

Dunno what the hell Perez is talking about, but I get the idea and it made me laugh. Cohen must be on the rag. High school kids end the oscars with singing that song…so what

  76. 76

Okay im pretty sure he was joking you fucking moron, i dont think he would kill some children. If this had been about someone else you wouldnt make a big deal.

  77. 77

I didn't like it either, but I guess you not aloud to say that!

  78. 78

Re: LizzyMay – This is right on the money: "It's like he's perfected his gay snarky friend act from high school that is all about the most cutting insult and aesthetics and has nooo substance." Andy Cohen is a Mean Girl. He's like Perez in a suit. I have to say though, Perez has gotten MUCH nicer.

  79. Fabu says – reply to this

    79

I agree that this wasn't the way to end the Oscar ceremony, but Andy Cohen has gone way overboard. Lord, I just hope that next year they bring in some hosts that are worth being there! I say bring back Billy Crystal… and if not him, then Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin again.

  80. 80

The Academy Awards is supposed to be the pinnacle of entertainment shows - major Hollywood expectations - and it closed with high school kids singing… People tuned in from all around the world to see glamour and spectacle and stars.

  81. 81

Not sure why you say what he said is 'uncalled for'! He is just stating his opinion. You have been say a lot of questionable things for many years now. Besides they were pretty horrible. They were rushed, out of sync, the song choice was horrible. They also should have performed at the beginning or middle of the show not the end.

  82. 82

This guy believes what he has to say is relevant, he is a winey Biatch, GO AWAY!

  83. 83

Uhm it was awful, half of the kids were misbehaving during the performance, it was like nobody told them to stand up straight and be respectful. I'm sure a couple of those kids were real singers, but the group as a whole was awful. Who brings a classroom to the Oscars? I could sing when I was a kid I never got to go to the Oscars, it was hard to sit through.

  84. 84

Not Cool Cohen! I'm a huge fan of his! I heart Andy Cohen, but this is just not cool… While the entire awards were a snooze fest and I get having an opinion, to knock the children that harshly, not cool!

  85. 85

Re: Mad Dog – Um, I thought Andy is gay?

  86. 86

Someone needs to knock his eyes str8, shady old hypercritical queen! Since when is he the foremost authority on the oscars….ewe

  87. uyeah says – reply to this

    87

He's right. I was appalled at that sloppy gang of kids. It was truly cringworthy. Why were they trotted out? Was this a liberal political correctness thing? Trot out a gang of inner city, non-white children? I didn't see a white child among them, just a fact, not a racist comment. It seemed so out of place. Were we supposed to know who the hell PS 22 chorus is??

  88. 88

He apologied last night. This also happened earlier in the day. You must have watched him personally apologize and decided to put it up on your site. I hope he doesn't have you on Bravo.

  89. 89

He has every right to express his opinion. I happen to agree with him. Cohen did do the one thing Perez does not do. Cohen apologized.

  90. 90

Andy seriously you have to pick a fight with kids? What happened that night honey? You couldn't find someone to suck your dick and that's why you're bitchy Andy? Sorry Andy…you belong on my shit list now..

  91. 91

People look forward to a classy ceremony all year. People throw parties around this ceremony. They messed with somethign that's almost sacred to many people.
Celine Dion was very appropriate. Very much what we expected. Bringing some choir kids was cheese and will not bring in a younger audience, anyway. I'm sure someone will get fired.

  92. 92

Ok, i GET the fact that everyone is a critic, and he is entitled to his opinion….but did he have to express it like such an a-hole?

Also, "over the rainbow' was used for a very specific reason - they were commemorating 'old hollywood' during the entirety of the show.

  93. 93

The way some of those kids were singing looked like they were hoping to be "discovered". Over the top kiddies. Also, if what those kids look like, fat and gross, God help us all, don't breed.

  94. 94

…and why is children singing at the oscars "classless?" Like the oscars didn't hit that category within the first half of the airing due to Melissa Leo's f-bomb.

  95. 95

The kids singing at the end was the biggest pile of shit I have ever seen. They looked like a bunch of pretentious little cockholes, flailing their arms about and doing the fake I'm-sighing-because-my-heart-is-bursting-with-joy complete with cheesy shit-eating grins. It was nauseating.

  96. 96

I didn't see it so I can't have too much to say, but I don't think that it sounded like a good idea for a bunch of kids to be preforming at the Oscars specially singing 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow". I don't think anyone should ever cover that song except for a few musicians like that Israel Kamakawiwoʻole who did a great rendition of it. Andy should have chosen better words to say about a bunch of kids, their not adults here and he should have chosen a better way to address his feelings.

  97. 97

LMAO i agree with him whole-heartedly

  98. 98

But…………They WERE awful ! So he tells it like it is, BFD !

  99. 99

Those kids singing at the end was as annoying as Anne Hathaway's phoney excitment during the show…..it was just WRONG !

  100. 100

Not too many people who read your blog like your opinion on things either.
