Fire Destroys Home Of Young Slumdog Millionaire Star

| Filed under: Film FlickersSad Sad

This is so sad.

The home of Rubina Ali, the young star of the 2008 Oscar-winning film Slumdog Millionaire, was destroyed by a fire Friday night.

Rubina and her family lived in a hut near the Bandra Railway Station near Mumbai. In the clip (above), you can see the village of huts that were destroyed by the fire. More than 500 huts were affected. Five people were reported missing.

In the fire, she lost everything, including her photographs, newspaper clippings, and film memorabilia that she had saved from the film.

Rubina's family was offered a flat after the film turned into a success, however her family turned it down, saying it was not big enough to house all of them.

On the night of the fire, Rubina said:

"Along with my house, all my good memories of my time on the film have been reduced to ashes. My new school books have been totally burnt. However, I feel relieved to see all my family members safe. The fire is so huge, it could have cost us our lives.

Seeing it burnt to ashes in front of my eyes, I feel like I have lost everything. This was all we had."

This just breaks our hearts.

We're just so relieved that Rubina and her family were not injured in the fire. Our hearts go out to them.

Slum dog made almost $400 Million, you mean to tell me that they could not offer more than an apartment. They paraded these kids at the Oscars and then send them back to the slums. I heard that they have a trust fund for the kids which they get i think after high school….they need money now, what is the point if they might not survive that long. They do not need a mansion, they could have given them a good enough home to fit all of them! They used these kids

Never mind 'our hearts go out to them'. How about your wallets??? Celebrities should use the blessings they have to help. I would help, but I don't get $$$$$$$$$ like the folks out west. Try opening something else up instead of 'Oh my sympathy…oooh, my heart goes out…oh, someone should DO something. STFU.

BTW, the children in that film had more talent in their pinky fingers than most of what I see on American film *cough cough Lindsay Lohan* *cough cough Anyone from the Twilight films* *cough cough enter any silicone bimbo's name here*. This is just another example of the rich exploiting the poor and then not taking care of the animals they used to plow the farm. I guess that's life.

Damn danny + studios, get them a real house - won't cost u that much. the kids in the movie was the best part of the movie. strangers would be willing to help them, why can the people who made hundreds of millions of dollars off of them do the same?
