Lupe Fiasco Talks New Album, B.O.B. And Suicidal Thoughts

lupe fiasco talks bob new album and suicidal thoughts

Looks like Lupe Fiasco's got A LOT on his mind that he wants to share with the world before his new album Lasers is released.

Here's Lupe on his extreme reaction to B.o.B. getting all the recognition for Nothing On You, a song he originally recorded:

"That was the tipping point. It was less about the bruised ego but more the audacity of it. It was mentally destructive. I say it with a certain laissez-faire now because I’m past it, but back then, hearin’ that s**t, it f**ked me up. I was super-depressed, lightly suicidal, at moments medium suicidal – and if not suicidal, willing to just walk away from it all completely.”

And here's Lupe's less-than-positive thoughts on his new album:

“I hate this album. I don’t hate the music, but I hate the process. When I look at it, I don’t see song titles and artwork, I see the fight – I see the emotions, the blood, sweat and tears. There are a couple of songs on there that I love; but Lasers is a little bit of what you love, a little bit of what you like, and a lot of what you had to do."

We appreciate you opening up to us about all of this, but you realize this isn't going to help your label try and make your new single and album a hit, right?

It's a little bit distressing that you don't seem to care about this. Thanks for the honesty, but if you're so down about this album that you're willing to speak out against it, maybe there are bigger issues still at play.

MIGHT want to seek professional help, Lupe. The drama with B.o.B. is very unfortunate, but it's not worth contemplating suicide over.

Thoughts???

Perez stfu about shit u dont know, Lasers is already projected to sell well

  2. 2

It really bothers me when people say "it's not worth considering suicide over". It completely dismisses the person's feelings over the matter.. which isn't fair.

  3. 3

Perez you have no idea what your talking about sometimes. You just completely fail to understand Lupe's passion for music and what he does. Completely taking his words out of context. Im sure if Lady Gaga had said something like that you would consider it a quote from a genius and what not.

  4. 4

why are people giving him so much crap for this album?? it's genuinely very fucking good!!! and he's not putting his album down Perez, he's stating the fact that he hates his label for having to make him fight for this album and wtf obviously anyone would be suicidal that song was allllll over the fucking radio for at least 5 months straight! the media is really gonna push Lupe to retire because i can tell he's getting tired of all the BS. smh would be so sad to lose a genius like him

I like Lupe Fiasco but I'm sorry I think B.O.B. did a way better job on the song than he did.

Lupe has been through hell and back. What he went through growing up (see Wiki) I'm in awe. This being said Perez, the flippant comment about suicide without reading about the person or subject you're commenting on is lazy. You may never have felt suicidal (I'm guessing you haven't) and pray you don't because suicide isn't funny. At all.

I love Lupe and think he's one of the most talented/underrated artists out there right now. He deserves more credit and popularity for what he does. The fact that B.O.B. gained success over HIS original song, of course that would hurt someone's ego.. especially if you look at how mainstream that song got B.O.B. I think Lupe's better off getting released from his contract with Atlantic Records, they haven't done shit for him anyways. Perez, I like your blog a lot but I think you should have a little more respect for people and take in consideration with what they've been through.

you should just get something to eat and try and forget you poblems for a while, think about kids in russia and india who listen to waco jesus on the phone, problems in NASA

Oh my goodness Perez, shut up. He does care about the album. He put all his emotions in it. He hates the fact that all those bad feelings from the past are in there but the album is him and he cares about it. He has been promoting the crap out it for a long time so don't say he doesn't care about it. It is his baby

Perez, this was insensitive of you… and you made yourself look dumb. Not everyone needs professional help, its part of life to struggle and have hardships. You grow as you get through them. (And I'm sure if he needed professional help there'd be people close to him telling him to get it.) Im not sure if you've ever loved something so much or worked on something so hard that you feel like dying when that baby of yours is taken away, but if you had you would understand how Lupe felt. It's apparent you haven't or that you're just plain insensitive to those emotions anyway. I've been a pretty devout follower of your blog, but this post has really turned me off to you and the way you think about things. I will not be visiting anymore.

you really do seem to be a lazy, inconsiderate asshole now perez. for you to comment on lupe's decisions and state of mind during a hard time without even knowing any of the facts whatsoever is really upsetting. he wasn't suicidal over a fucking song. i know this is a gossip blog but seriously at least report the truth to some effect. lupe fiasco is an amazing artist who deserves better than his label telling him to dumb down HIS music to appeal to an audience that can't comprehend deep concepts and meaningful words. L.A.S.E.R.S is a great record but if atlantic let him do it his way it would've been timeless. imagine if someone controlled your website and made you only write certain things just because more people would visit the site. you have your freedom of expression so be grateful. i don't even want to visit this site anymore. you've been becoming so bias that i thought you signed a contract with fox news. it's disgusting. lupe is original but yet no praise for him from you. lady gaga is a second rate madonna but you give her so much credit. if lupe were gay maybe then you'd appreciate him.

    I think you're a complete an utter douche-bag. I didn't until just now.

Do you honestly believe he was feeling suicidal simply in reaction to someone else getting credit for his work? That's not how it works you ignorant fuck. I'm astounded by how cavalierly and with such ignorance you're discussing such an enormous serious issue. It actually turns my stomach.

  13. 13

It is completely insensitive to say that is is nothing to contemplate suicide over, neither you, nor I, nor anyone else has any idea what else he could possibly be going through. It could be the tipping point to his depression, it is unclear to us that that was the ONLY reason as to why he was contemplating suicide. Extremely insensitive Perez, extremely.

  14. 14

He also put every emotion and experience he had into this album, in no way is he trashing it, he is explaining it, leave the poor guy alone. I have tons of respect to him, do you even have any idea as to what he has gone through?

  15. 15

perez. you a dick. lupe fiasco created a work of art and had it plundered and pillaged by his record company. why wouldn't he have mixed feelings about it? when you got smacked it lasted a minute. atlantic records has been smacking lupe fiasco down for three years. why wouldn't he feel suicidal? as I recall, you cried on video. and now you belittle lupe fiasco for lamenting his own work being held hostage by a record company contract. it would be one thing if he was a mediocre talent like you. but he's the best emcee around…..and kanye will testify.

This writer is an idiot (because we all know Perez doesn't write shit anymore). You didn't even read Lupe's quote that you included in the entry. He said he hated the process of making the album, not the album itself. And believe it or not, that could be a good sign that this record will really touch people. It's argued that an artist is always at his best when suffering from depression, but with all your pop shit like Born This Way, I guess you wouldn't understand that.

  17. 17

STFU PEREZ!!!! No one asked for your take on the matter.

  18. 18

I agree with all the other comments. Perez I am really upset that you seriously believe that. Lupe only spits the truth, and is by far the most underrated artist/lyricist in the music business.
L.A.S.E.R.S is going to do great. He is the only artist that I financially support these days, because everyone just sucks and/or is trying to be the new Lady Gaga.

  19. 19

you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about. maybe if you read a little more about WHY he felt his way about the album, then you'd understand. Do yourself a favor and get your facts straight instead of sounding like a complete asshole.

  20. 20

Yeah Perez, He basically got f* up the a* by his record company trying to get this album out so of course there is going to be some hard feelings there.
