Phil Collins Decides To Retire From Music

If it were for any other reason besides his health, we'd beg him to reconsider. As it stands, we understand why he is making this decision.

For decades, Phil Collins has been a driving force in the music community, but now it seems that he'll be stepping out of the spotlight for good. According to Phil, his doctors have advised him that his hands are too weak to play the drums and if he continues with his music, he may lose function in them all together.

Though the news was hard to hear, but the idea of being able to spend quality time with his two sons was the driving force behind Phil's decision to retire. He explains:

"I'm not worried about not being able to play the drums again, I'm more worried about being able to cut a loaf of bread safely or building things for my kids. My doctors tell me it's a work in progress, that it will take about a year for me to recover."

But even with recovery, Phil believes his hands will never be strong enough to play the drums again. In fact, he reveals for the last several years, he's had to tape his drumsticks to his hands just to be able to play.

Sad, but considering how dedicated he is to his craft, we imagine it was worth it to him.

We think its smart of him to leave his rocking days behind him, at least for the next year to let his hands recover. The future may bring him a solution that'll give him back his music, but for now, he seems to be happy in different aspects of his life.

Good for him!

Now if only Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, The Jonas Brothers, Bob Dylan and Ke$ha retire too, we will be getting somewhere.

REAL talent that will be missed.

Re: TORTEZ – I second that! This is what you call real music, not this crap that they have out today.

Love that guy to bits. He's such an incredible talent ! Must be a tough decision to take, but understandable too. We'll be treasuring your music as we have been for decades + with my own kids now. Thanks so much for everything Phil ! Now forget all criticisms and enjoy every precious moment with your kids !!

That sucks like shit. I will not miss his easy listening songs, but he was a big part of Genesis and I will miss him in that group

He declared he was leaving the music industry for good, not for a year or two. Even though he had huge commercial sucesses, he never really felt a part of that industry.

Re: icefire227 – Did you seriously mentioned bob dylan next to kesha, gaga and the jonas brothers. Thats the saddest thing ive read

Phil Collins was a great drummer, but he is also an incredible song-writer and singer! It is too bad he doesn't refocus strictly on his vocals. For some reason, he has always been sidelined by the industry — the Acadmy Awards even declined his offer to sing the song he sung and wrote that was up for an award, they had someone else perform it… wtf, eh? I love Phil Collins and wish him an incredible life with his kids and family and all the happiness he can handle.

Here's a solution, get a drummer. Google Search keywords "The Media Jerk" to read heartless criticism of the day's biggest celebrity news stories!!

    Geeeeesssssssss…….. your lagging behind!

  15. 15

he's not happy, he's petulant and irrational, speaking of being "sorry" for his success and saying that people "hate" him.

  16. 16

Sad day but wish him well. Love him and his music huge fan!

I had no clue that he was still involved in music. That said he has not been a driving force in the music since the 80's.

You actually mentioned this about a year ago and titled it 'does anybody really care'. Now you're changing your tune because all the comments then ripped you a new asshole.
    Phil will be missed

You can still sing anytime Baldie. We know its been a while, but you are always missed in the industry, your voice happens to sooth us everytime u bring something amazing. But if its for the best we wish you well.. Have your recover and come back to us like a rocket on fire. We gonna be waiting. Take Care! :(

He can write and sing when he's looking to be creative again. Doctors don't and can never know how far a person can take their recovery with dedication, hard work and proper rest. Use it or lose it. Go for the max, or forever wonder.

How many times he's gonna to retire ? He has been saying that for a long time ?!!
