Alice In Chains/Celebrity Rehab's Mike Starr Found Dead

mike starr has passed away

So sad.

Yesterday, former Alice In Chains bassist/Celebrity Rehab participant Mike Starr was found dead in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Here's what Salt Lake City police Sgt. Shawn Josephson had to say about it:

“The cause and manner of death are going to be determined by the medical examiner’s office."

Such a tragedy! He was only 44 years old!

Our thoughts go out to Mike's family, friends, peers, and loyal fans everywhere.

RIP man…..never was an alice in chains fan but I really came to like this guy on celebrity rehab. his poor mother, she wanted him to get better so badly…….

So fucking sad. He was doing so good after celebrity rehab, he was even back this past season to speak to the new patients about sober life.
This is what can happen when you relapse. SO sad, I'm really sad.

  3. 3

Wow, that's a shame. I guess some people just can't be helped. I hope his family has lots of support and comfort in this time.

  4. 4

Maybe now people will understand that Dr. Drew and his failure rate aren't helping anyone!

awww :( its so sad when people try to get help and this ends up happening.. RIP dude

is anyone really THAT suprised. bummer for this dude, but i really only feel bad for people who's death couldn't be prevented. someone hits you with their car and you die? total bummer. someone who injects/snorts/smokes drugs that they know will kill you and dies because of it? total idiot.

Wow I'm lost for words..I'm a huge AIC fan. RIP Mike.

Re: mer908 – I see what you mean. It's sad, but mainly for the people closest to him. He chose to do this to himself, and even though he made an attempt to get clean, it just didn't work out. Possibly, he didn't even die of an overdose. Maybe it was just a complication related to the drugs that he put into his body for so long. We'll just have to wait until the medical examiner releases the details. I am sad for his family and friends.

Re: ohscarlett1012 – Why are some people ragging on Dr. Drew? Only one in ten people stay clean after their first rehab attempt. The success rate is only somewhat higher with multiple attempts. Dr. Drew's "success rate" is no worse/different than any other doctor's……

Re: TorontoBitch – drew's a celebrity, therefore people will demean the knowledge he has in the profession he has a degree in. :)

Re: mer908 – It takes a real big person to disrespect someone who just died. Good job. Maybe now you can go and poke fun at those dumbass Haiti victims!

Dr. Drew has ALWAYS been open about what lies ahead for the recovering addict: relapse, long term physical repercussions, etc. We don't know yet what caused Mike's death, but we do know that Dr. Drew predicted an early death for Mike if he didn't did take his recovery and his health seriously. Rest In Peace, Mike. You were a gentle soul with a horrible disease.

    Re: Jaclyn Ross
Coming from someone who is related to people who have lived and died because of drugs, i don't feel bad for him at all. and are you serious? i just said that you should feel bad for people who died from things that couldn't be prevented, i.e. an earthquake. i'm not going to feel bad for someone whos heroin addiction was so bad he got kicked out of a band where the lead singer died of a herion overdose. Meaning, his addiction was at the same level or worse than someone who died. he's lucky he even made it this far.

  19. 19

Re: Jaclyn Ross – oh and smooth move on calling the haiti victims dumbasses. atleast i called a heroin addict a dumbass (which makes sense) your response? not so much..

  20. 20

    mer908:

You're the dumbass. You're completely missing the point. It's called sarcasm, and it was directed at you! Classy move, bad-mouthing a man who had serious problems he attempted to address, before the body's even in the ground.

  21. 21

    Re: mer908
Wow when will people understand drug addiction is a illness/sickness. Keep your negative comments to yourself.

  22. 22

Re: Jaclyn Ross – Yea except the victims in Haiti didn't do it to themselves. That's a real stupid comparison…coming from a real stupid person. There's a difference between falling victim to a devastating natural disaster and knowingly destroying yourself for years so just stifle it.

  23. 23

Re: karma13 – Cancer, AIDS, muscular dystophy…THESE are diseases. Drug addiction is a self pitying downward spiral.

  24. 24

He seems like such a cool guy. I hate it when good people go. He had a good heart and at least we have alice in chains to always remember his greatness. May he rest in peace.

  25. 25

My heart goes out to this man and his family I watch celebrity rehab when he was on I was really hoping he was going to make a come back

  26. 26

    PerezSux 54

Hey you fucking dolt. Jaclyn Ross was obviously being sarcastic. Read it again, dumbass. A lot of people on here need to find a new hobby, like learning how to spell properly.

  27. 27

    Wow. Just, wow…

  28. 28

Re: catlover – I don't think he chose to do this, his father was a junkie who introduced him to hard drugs at a young age. How sad. RIP.

  29. 29

My heart is absolutely broken over the death of Mike Starr. I'm sure I'm not the only person that feels this way, but after almost 20 years of listening to Alice In Chains (and Dirt is still their best record) and basically getting to know him from Celebrity Rehab, I feel like I lost a friend. What a beautiful, troubled man. I ache for his family, his friends, and all of his fans.

  30. 30

Re: PerezSux54Re: mer908 – You are both missing a sarcasm button. Jaclyn was being sarcastic and exaggerating the situation telling mer to make fun of Haiti victims while he/she is at it. Yeesh.

  31. 31

Re: ohscarlett1012 – You're obviously know nothing about the failure rate for drug addicts. The recovery rate for heroin addicts is about 16%. Based on that percentage compared to recovery rates for other drugs, heroin is a hard drug to kick.

Mike was obviously having a hard time with kicking heroin. He was kicked out of Alice in Chains in 1993 for drugs and didn't do CR til 09'. He was even on the following season of Celebrity Rehab celebrating 6 months of sobriety. His death has nothing to do with Dr. Drew. That wasn't Mike's first or last trip to rehab. So quit blaming Dr. Drew. This isn't his fault.

  32. 32

Re: ohscarlett1012 – You're an idiot. Out of all the celebrities using their celebrity to sing about how hot they are, how cool they are, who act in lame movies about nothing…Dr, Drew at least makes an attempt to bring education and recovery to the media. Get a grip. So lame to blame Dr, Drew or attempt to discredit him. LAME

  33. 33

Re: mer908 – I completely see where you are coming from. I believe drug addiction is a choice, not a disease. Anyone who even goes near heroine is an idiot because seriously…when does anything good come from heroine? It is NO secret how addicting it is, along with all other opiates and crack cocaine ect. ANYONE who gets caught up in these things will 99% end up an addict. They CHOOSE to go there.
