Kid Rock Causes NAACP Drama!

| Filed under: Icky Icky PooMusic MinuteAwardzKid Rock

kid rock causes naacp turmoil

Looks like Kid Rock has caused some turmoil within NAACP.

Supporters of the group are planning to boycott their "Detroit arm's annual fundraiser" because they'll be honoring Kid Rock, who "doesn't mesh with the civil rights group's goals."

Many NAACP supporters have issues with Kid Rock because of his use of the Confederate flag during concerts, and as a result, they'll be sitting out from the fundraiser, where Kid will receive the "Detroit branch's Great Expectations Award."

Here's what head of Detroiters for Progress Adolph Mongo had to say about the misuse of the confederate flag:

"It's a slap in the face for anyone who fought for civil rights in this country. It's a symbol of hatred and bigotry."

And here's what NAACP officials had to say in Kid Rock's defense:

"Kid Rock…has consistently lifted up the Great Expectations of many persons…concerning the future of the city."

Do U think Kid Rock deserves the honor? Or do U also take issue with his usage of the Confederate flag during concerts?

What did the NAAWP have to say about the issue? Oh there is no NAAWP, mmmmm, interesting.

  3. 3

Its probably about those chicken legs of his.

He has done nothing for the black people, not that he should but why there's only one reason to honor him and that's for publicity. What next, awards from the ADL or a Lebanese group?
Just as one of the heads of the NAACP said, if he paraded a Nazi flag around would the jews honor him?
No problem with Kid (other than they still call him kid) but come on, the NAACP? He lives in a Detroit suburb where their are no blacks.

Re: kbah – You do realize what NAACP stands for, right?

Re: jkf – Obviously you need to re-read the post. The NAACP isn't honoring him. They are simply one of the many supporters of "Detroiter's for Progress." It has nothing to do with race. And Rock has done A LOT for Detroit.

Also, Rock acts like he is a Southerner…he's not…so the Rebel Flag is pretty freakin' lame for a Michiganer to be totin' around.

I once thought the naacp was a good thing but now they are just a joke. I think it might be time to go away.

it's not like he's racist, he dated a black woman in the 90"s for 6 years and has a biracial son. Hmmm but i will say eminem is more respected by black ppl than kid rock or j beiber

The man is a cowboy, he loves the south, his first born son is born out of the womb of a black woman, Naacp needs to work on issues that matter and need work on.. If they are going to take offense to that, they have too much time and money on their hands.

Yes I dislike that flag also, but you also need to look at the people that use it…its not a nazi flag. Its not advocated by a man with a nasty heart.

I'm seriously sick of people/groups trying to take every single thing about white people and making it a race issue. In today's world (where we should all be living, not in the past that many of us had nothing to do with) it seems to me that racism is still such a big issue because these people/groups keep making it that way. The NAACP and such should be torn apart, dismantled, because those are the people who are labeling/classifying themselves as being seperate. Also stop calling yourselves african-americans unless you yourself have actually moved here directly from africa. If you're born here then you are AMERICAN!

On another note, here's some fk'd up sh*t: On one occasion where i live a police officer was killed after being shot in the throat. A black male was selling drugs to kids, when the narcs team went to arrest him he took off in his car resisting and slammed into a ditch. Once that happened an officer approached him to arrest and the suspect grabbed the cops gun out of his holster. They struggled for it and the suspect pulled the trigger, fatally wounding another officer in the throat. Well don'tcha know the NAACP comes marching down here saying that he should have a lighter charge rather than murder and they're fighting for this guys rights. What about the rights of the beloved dead cop in his late 20's!? If he grabbed that gun and struggled for it, wtf did the NAACP think he was going to do with it besides fire at the cops!? NAACP is racist!!!

  14. 14

The Kid is from Michigan…he is not from the south and last time I checked he is not a bigot or is being accused of being one. While I'm not a fan I think he might have used the rebel flag as a sign/symbol he is an "outlaw"- which many of the people in the south do. Flags are basic graphic designs and if you look at a page of flags of the world and various states and territories some are really pretty cool-graphics wise. Personally I think it's mistaken to use something like a flag or icon once you find you are offending people-particularly if you are an entertainer. Although note Mel Brooks has made a career using Nazi images/symbols- though their usage was in a ridiculing manner.
Some Blacks/African Americans think the term "colored" is offensive…and while some younger blacks think using the n-word is hip- as well as rappers when using the n-word was "edgy" maybe we all ought to be adults, let him get the award and to show what a great person he is- at least in the press conference afterwards- let the kid make a statement to the effect, "This award is so overwhelming and made me more aware of the struggle many Americans had to endure and overcome I will no longer use the Confederate Flag- which I incorrectly used as a symbol that I am an outlaw or "rebel". I am an entertainer who enjoys fans of all races and nationalities and my goal is to entertain and make people feel good about themselves."

  15. 15

Re: Blunt – why would eminem be more respected? Just because he's a rapper? smh..

on another note, its okay for the Naacp to award white people obviously but when exactly did it only matter what one person does in ONE city them deserve an award?
i'd think the naacp would award people on a worldly "in general" basis. silliness..smh.

Another story of down here is the Jena six incident. A student hangs a noose at the high school in Jena, LA. 6 black students want to retaliate, so they beat the living crap/hospitalized 1 white student (not the one that commited the noose hanging crime, but someone who had nothing to do with it). The NAACP, Al Sharpton, all those guys came flying down here…To stand up for the rights of the 6 black kids who beat the 1 white kid. Their punishment was too harsh as well. They couldn't have given a damn about the kid laying in the hospital. Now if the shoe was on the other foot, and it had been 6 white kids who beat the bricks off 1 black kid, then they would have been down here just as fast to crucify the 6 white kids. It would have been a hate crime, they would have wanted them to fry. I have never in my life seen more hypocrisy than what lies in the NAACP.

  17. 17

The NAACP is a racist organization. Some animals are just more equal than others though, according to liberals.

  18. Mtl23 says – reply to this

Isn't one of his kids half black????? Ummm that would make it appear to me he is not rasict???

  19. 19

The confederate flag is a symbol of hate. He should not be honored for anything. He is a trashy hasbeen. Does he even have fans.

  20. 20

Re: NOLAgurl2010 – So right you are!!!! I am sick to death of it….I am a Southerner and the flag is part of our history,so fuck off. The NAACP are a buch of fame seeking clowns,i walked for civil rights in the 60's…..but i am so over hearing about what happened WAY,WAY in the past!

  21. kbah says – reply to this

Re: BeNiceYall – Yes I realize what it stands for, but your post read as if you use that term instead of african americans or black people… it's just an outdated term

  22. kbah says – reply to this

Re: Chris_Mc – blow me. you're the tool.

  23. 23

Fuck the NAACP. The confederate flag and the Civil War are a huge part of this country's history. Get over it, assholes. And it's cute how this group still refers to black people as "colored".

  24. 24

Re: NOLAgurl2010 – Up here in Buffalo where I live, a young white kid was walking his black girlfriend home in a black neighborhood. A group of young black guys didn't like the fact that he was dating her so they beat the crap out've him. Our black mayor, who I believe is incredibly racist, said it did not constitute as a hate crime. I just love the double standards in this country.

  25. 25

Re: amItheonlyone – Regardless, it's still a part of our history. Not all history is happy and fluffy.

  26. 26

As a black person myself I think the NAACP needs to calm down. I'm someone who truly believes in equality for all. There are scholarships for just black students so there should be scholarships for just white students. When I see the confederate flag I don't think about slavery but I think about the south and heritage. But it is weird for Kid Rock to have a confederate flag when he's from Michigan.

  27. 27

Kid Rock is not a racist! If ya all remember where he started you would know this. His Only son is Half black! You people are redickulous

  28. 28

I don't think Kid Rock is in any way shape or form a racist, considering his kid is bi-racial. But I can see why the NAACP would think that a confederate flag is offensive.

  29. 29

The NAACP should be ashamed of only themselves and how racist they aactually are.

NAACP is shit! It doens't stand for anything or anyone unless you are a robot who believes exactly what they tell you to.

  30. boo says – reply to this

its time to stop thinking that the confederate flag is only a symbol of hate. its a symbol of the south and i am proud to be from the south! that doesnt make me a racist. can we ever move on from anything?

  31. 31

Kid Rock is a BOSS. Just because he isnt decked out in diamond chains and a GRILL people get mad. he IS indeed a while american male. he's just repping i guess. do you see him going around abusing people because of their race? i dont believe so..yet LOL

    22Re: Chris_Mc – blow me. you're the tool.

^^ Nope, you're the tool. Tool. Hey tool, have a great toolicious day!

  33. 33

Being offended is a choice. Have you been to the South? There are Confederate flags everywhere. It's about being a rebel and a redneck; not about hating. And yes, you will see black people with the same rebel flag in the back window of their pickups. Gimme a break! I agree with NOLA down there, because the people crying the loudest about race are the people who keep separating themselves. If we were really trying to eliminate race, there wouldn't be African American this, Latino that, Native American this, there would be just Americans. People who focus more on where they came from than where they are need to look in the mirror before they whine about minor things like Kid Rock's stage props.

  34. 34

It's apparently not the first time Kid Rock has come up against reverse-racism. In his song "Amen" he sings, "And how can we seek salvation when our nation's race relations have got me feeling guilty of being white."

  35. 35

Oh come on, NAACP! — He's got a nig nog son, for christ's sake!

  36. uyeah says – reply to this

The confederate flag is only a symbol of hated and bigotry because the NAACP racists have made it so. It's a symbol of Southern identity and pride.

  37. Laura says – reply to this

    well, look at him.

  38. 38

Everybody knows only bitter southern hicks wave that flag. Why is Kid Rock trying to be something he's not?

  39. 39

Well I'm not sure whether or not the confederate flag is a symbol of hatred… But the people I have seen with it/wearing it are quite hateful…

  40. kizzy says – reply to this

the Nazi flag and the redneck flag sre symbol of pride for racist losers

  41. 41

He’s not a bigot, he’s just so dumb, he thinks the confederate flag is a symbol of “The Dukes of Hazard” Search keywords "The Media Jerk" to read heartless criticism of the day's biggest celebrity news stories!!

  42. 42

I think it is hypocritical for people who DON'T live in the south to stereotype the people who live there, then criticize them for using a symbol to celebrate their shared uniqueness.

  43. 43

While seeing I'm from the Detroit area Kid Rock has done a lot for the city. I don't believe he's racist in any manner seeing his own son is half black and his drummer is a female whose also black. I don't believe he raises that flag as a racist symbol to show people look I don't like these people. I truly believe he does it as he's said before symbolizes Rock N Roll. I think people need to stop reading so much into things and giving people crap for stuff that isn't true. Kid Rock is a great artist and also does a lot around the city of Detroit. He deserves the award hands down.

  44. 44

some of the people on here are just plain stupid!!!!! Kid Rock has done alot for Detroit, and yes, he should be honored for that. The NAACP, needs to find some issue that has better reason to protest. AND, if they had such a problem with Kid Rocks use of the flag, then why didn't they voice it before, why wait until now???? He is a singer of Southern Rock. The flag use for that genre of music goes way back, before even Kid Rock, so if it's that much of an issue then maybe they should have thought to protest from when it's use first began.
Just because some of you don't care about Kid Rock and his music, then go about your business. he has plenty of fans and supporters, which is why he is so successful at what he does.
So what if he is not from the south, if that had anything to do with what genre of music anyone should be allowed to sing, then every genre of music would have a negative impact and would lose many of the artist in all the different genres, so you might want to think about that before you go speaking out of your dumdass.
Kid Rock, I support you all the way. NAACP, can kiss my ass. And that is not said out of racism, it is said due to their ignorance

  45. 45

    re: Harrycontests -
Your phrase 'shared uniqueness' is a hilarious oxymoron.

    re: Boo
I'm proud of being from the south too. I'm just not proud of a flag that represents racist attitudes people (north & south!) held ONE HUNDRED AND 50 YEARS AGO.
