R.I.P. Lilith Fair

Sad! But we suppose it had its time!

Sarah McLachlan announced today that after attempting to revive Lilith Fair last year to bad ticket sales, she will no longer be running the female-fronted music festival!

She explains:

"Bringing the same thing back last year really didn't make any sense, in retrospect, without due diligence being done on how women have changed. In 12 years, women have changed a lot. Their expectations have changed, the way they view the world has changed, and that was not taken into consideration, which I blame myself for."

Inneresting points!

However, fear not, female music lady fans, she DOES hope to update the venue sometime in the future by "carrying forth the ideas from Lilith and maybe doing something new and different."

Nice! We DO like the sound of that, and are looking forward to how this re-imagining will manifest itself!

    So much for dyke-fest.

There were a lot of strong, great female acts in the 90s when Lilith began, so I know what she's trying to say with "women changed a lot" since then. I did to go to one of the shows back in 98..it was OK, but only 5 acts, including Sarah on the main stage, but I would have preferred to see some of my more favorite ones. Would have been better as an all day, 3-day weekend long thing with more acts in one place, sort of like Woodstock.

R.I.P? That is a very careless title. You need to work on your choice of words.

Many of today's Top Women performers don't even play or sing…whats the point

    Nothing is "Inneresting." Douche.

So, women have changed in the last 12 years, from all centuries previous to this?
    -
    How so?
    -
Do you mean that women don't want a commitment from their boyfriend, after the one year mark, and don't want to get married anymore?

I never saw what the big draw to these Lesbo-Concerts were all about…what's with all the tittie grabbing?

The main reason that the ticket sales sucked was due to the line up.

Injecting a little testosterone into the progesterone mix might have brought in more ticket sales by couples and groups of folks. Ah, well. It worked really well until it didn't. Time for a new hat.

How about none of the acts were major artists? The women's singer-songwriter movement went down by the late 90s. The few leftovers able to continue a viable career couldn't complete with the other concert tours. Sarah was basically the primary draw and she hasn't charted a major single in a decade. Sensitive girls with guitars and/or pianos aren't what they used to be. Now you need a full backing band, $300,000 worth of pyrotechnics, cannons full of glitter and Jay-Z to jump on stage.

OH NO!!! What will the Indigo Girls do??? LOL

    Re: luvs2tango
I don't think she meant women in general, but women in the music industry. In the 90s you had Tori Amos, Jewel, Courtney Love, Fiona Apple, PJ Harvey, Sarah McLachlan, Melissa Etheridge, Paula Cole, Joan Osborne, Shawn Colvin, Sinead O'Connor, as well as a whole lot of other women who were writing their own songs, playing their own instruments, and just proving themselves as talented musicians in their own right. They were the anti-Madonna, anti-Paula Abdul, and everyone else from the previous wave of female artists just going by on mediocre talent and loads of sex appeal. Then along came the Spice Girls and Britney Spears, and it became all about sex appeal and mediocre talent all over again.

I bet the venue employees are breathing a sigh of relief because now they won't have to clean up thousands of used tampons and scrub the smell of fish out of thousands of seats.

lilith fair had lesbo overtones, most people dont want to be associated with that

I went to Lilith Fair last year in Philly and I had an awesome time! I am a huge fan of Sara Bareilles and I was able to see her for only a 10$ ticket. Also, I first heard Missy Higgins there and now am a huge fan!
