Japan Earthquake And Tsunami Has Moved Coast 8 Feet, Shifted Earth's Axis

Crazy.

It's like watching a scene from An Inconvenient Truth.

The powerful earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan on Friday has moved the island's coast inward 8 feet and has shifted the Earth on its axis by nearly 4 inches.

The 9.0 quake was the most powerful to hit Japan in recorded history.

This is just…unreal. Watching all the Japan footage has devastated us.

We pray for the island of Japan and all those affected.

The earthquake was 8.9, not 9.0. There is a HUGE difference between the two.
Also, tsunamis speed up earths rotation all the time but none of this will have ANY effect on the world, especially not the part we live in.

    LA is next, piggy.

  3. 3

    actually it was 9.0
    it was upgraded

this is terrible just unbeleivable the japanese had walls up agains tsunami and earthquake proof buildings only to get hit with the unthinkable it is like just unreal

Re: Breanna Balaam – Actually the Sendai Earthquake WAS 9.0.
Japanese seismologists updated it to a 9.0 a few hours after it struck.

  5. 5

it's the ISLANDS of japan, not island!

If you really wanna seem like you've changed from being your usual horrible self. Why don't you stop drawing on pictures. Drawing a stupid sad face smiley on a photo that demonstrates something as horrible/real as this is childish.

Oh…guess that means you'll keep doing it since you are childish.

What the heck does An Inconvenient Truth have to do with it? Tectonic plate movement and global warming have nothing to do with each other. There is not a shred of evidence otherwise, no matter what Aunt Marge e-mailed you. This tsunami was caused by the displacement of water from an enormous sea-floor quake. I swear, the last few days have given me a sobering realization of how much ignorance there is of basic science. Junior high level science. It isn't just Americans, either.

WHERE DO YOU COME UP WITH THIS B.S. SHIFTED THE EARTHS AXIS WE'D BE SPINNING INTO THE SUN ASSHOLE.

Re: KanyeGayfish – You just said what I came to so thank you. I do not under why people seem to have failed basic junior high science. Perez read a damn book.

Re: KanyeGayfish – Thank you for calling out the stupidity. The people that run this site for Perez are morons.

  11. 11

Re: HILRAY – No, you are retarded. The earth has shifted axis many, many times. You know this is what I can't stand. It is one thing to be ignorant, it is another to be loud and adamant with that ignorance.

  12. 12

huh?? You can't stop plate tectonics!!! I don't care what Al Gore says. It has NOTHING to do with humans. It just shows how insignificant we all really are.

  13. 13

    HAARP.

  14. 14

Re: bumpcity – I don't think Al Gore said anything about plate tectonics being the result of humans. Dumbass.

  15. 15

    omg :(

  16. 16

It's nice to see that there are some people who actually pay attention to detail and don't get conned into believing everything they read. An Inconvenient Truth has no connection to earth quakes, but there are people out there who will read this and fall right in line with the rest of the stupid people who don't read up on anything themselves.

  17. 17

LMAO, you idiot perez. Are you seriously suggesting that global warming (which has been pretty much discredited) was the cause of the earthquake and tsunami?

  18. 18

Actually, most of YOU are wrong! Scientists now believe that as the ice caps continue to melt the influx of sea water will continue to put greater pressure on fault lines, which result in more frequent and powerful earthquakes. The reason for this, as most of you will recall from your most basic science class, is that water is much more dense than ice. The unfortunate conclusion that can be drawn from this information? Climate change is going to screw us in more ways than we/or Al Gore could have imagined! Have a great day!

  19. 19

Re: AliceV – Climate change has been discredited? Are you sure?

  20. 20

Hmm I took the Inconvenient Truth reference as that he thought that the NASA pics of Japan look as scary as some of the stuff Al Gore has shown. Not that they were related

  21. 21

@Re: Breanna Balaam – It was 9.0 Although it was at first 8.9, they found out that it was really 9.0 On friday, it said it was 8.9 Now ever since Sat, they are saying that it was REALLY 9.0

Re: HILRAY – The Earth's AXIS and the Earth's ORBIT around the sun are two different things! You sound like a complete fucking IDIOT. The planet's axis (the angle at which it rotates) shifted slightly, by 25 centimeters, but scientists have said that we won't even be affected by that. It would have to be a MUCH larger shift for us to notice any differences. And this has happened before as a result of other earthquakes.

  23. ONIT says – reply to this

    23

Re: HILRAY – It really shifted the earth's axis. It's been all over the media yesterday. Perez is just giving scientifically proved information.
