I hate to say it - I know how popular tats are right now - but from a distance they look like dirt or bruises. Personally, I find them kinda tacky. Surely there are better ways to express gratitude than getting a tattoo. How about making a donation to a worthy cause in someone's name?

Re: rosebud99 – I don't think donating to a worthy cause would have showed her appreciation to her fans, she already does enough charity work. The reason why she got the heart tattooed was because while she was in rehab all her fans drew hearts on their wrists for her to show their support in her recovery… I think the tattoo was a perfect way to show her appreciation to her fans who stuck by her side and got her through a really rough time in her life.
It's not up everyone's alley, but I think this is a very sweet thing to do. If she got it, she was thinking of getting a tattoo anyway, so might as well make it mean something. Of course there are other things she -could- have done, but this is what she chose and her sentiment gets across.

You know, it's always really nice when tattoos have meanings (especially hers), but it's not a neccessity. I mean, everybody knows it's stupid just to get a heart or an angel "just because", but not every tattoo has to be a representation of your dead grandpa or something. I remember being at this concert a few years back (I think I was seeing Ween), and I walked outside on the balcony to smoke. If I remember correctly, I was wearing some sandals. And some guy walked up to me and pointed to the tree tattooed on my foot, and he was all "Oh, so what's the symbolic meaning behind that? Because it's stupid to have a tattoo without one." I told him that it represented his mother's vagina, and he got kinda mad. =/ But anyways, it's perfectly fine to have a tattoo without a meaning. Two of my tattoo's have meanings, but I never tell people when they ask because it's MY tattoo and MY meaning, you know? My tattoos don't need to have a purpose in order for YOU to accept them.

I really like Demi but those tattoos are HUGE for a girl of 18. Like you can't hide them with a few bracelets. She should've just gotten the heart instead of the huge 'Stay Strong' lettering
