Netflix To Feature Their Own Original Series!

netflix to feature original series

Uh oh, Amazon Prime & Redbox and maybe even cable networks! Looks like Netflix means business.

Netflix has just outbid HBO and AMC for House of Cards, an original series directed by The Social Network's David Fincher, which will star Kevin Spacey, and is being executive produced by the duo.

Negotiations are still underway, but it appears that Netflix will be the exclusive home for the 26-episode season, which will cost the company over $100 million.

The show was written by former Conservative Party chief of staff Michael Dobbs, and it's a political thriller which is "set at the end of Margaret Thatcher's tenure as prime minister and follows a British politician with his eye on the top job."

This is quite a move for Netflix! And given the fact that The Social Network's David Fincher is attached to the project, we could see where A LOT of people will want to check out the show.

Should be inneresting to see how this affects their business.

Would you be more inclined to sign up for Netflix with the addition of original series'?

I find it hard to believe this is going to go anywhere.

Maybe it will work. I subscribe to Showtime for 'Nurse Jackie' only. So maybe.

I think they need to get their instant stream more up to date before moving onto original series. I'd like to stream recent hits not movies from the 80's. I'm about to close my subscription and trime Prime. Why should I wait for the dvd to arrive at my house to see a movie that's just been released on dvd?

Not an original series. This is a British show from the early 90s that I assume they are remaking. I believe it is available to watch instantly and the original was great. The remake is bound to be bad.

It's a remake of a British Mini Series. I guess they are looking to make this into a more stretched out version of that. If it's good, it'll put Netflix up there in the television broadcast arena. Wonder if they'll charge extra for something premium like that.
