Dear Obama, Equality For All! Regards, Hollywood

Bless everyone's dear heart that signed this letter. Truly, we hope it makes a difference.

Some of Hollywood's biggest stars have attached their namesakes to a letter being sent off to President Obama, urging him to take a bigger stance for marriage equality in America. His administration's denouncement of the Defense of Marriage act was a great first step, but there is still so much more to be done.

Among the A-Listers who signed the letter going off to the White House are Anne Hathaway, Martin Sheen, Jane Lynch and Ellen DeGeneres. In one particularly moving paragraph, the letter reads:

"Whether to end discrimination in marriage is a question America has faced before, and faces again today… It is a question that calls for clarity from the president. We ask you to complete your journey and join us, and the majority of Americans, who support the freedom to marry."

We second these remarks whole-heartedly and hope the President seriously gives them some thought…especially considering that he will soon be up for re-election in 2012.

Don't neglect the ones who helped you get to where you are now in the first place, Mr. President. Don't forget how Hollywood rallied around you and how the gay community believed in the promises you made.

Remember - Yes you can!

So then, do it!

P.S. CLICK HERE if you'd like to co-sign the letter!

You stupid fools. The last thing Obama needs is to be further drawn into the marriage controversy.

  2. 2

    Perez

President Obama can not change the law by himself. He needs votes from the Senate and the House to pass the law. The Celebrities are writing the letter to the wrong person. It is time to have your representatives in Government commit to passing the law.

  3. 3

Obama will lose the black community if he comes out in support of gay marriage and a good part of the Latino vote. That is one of the reasons bush won a second term, because gay marriage became a major issue in that campaign. Obama knows the gays and hollywood will vote for him anyway.

  4. 4

THESE STUPID WHINY GAYS need to fuck off.

    Unemployment is sky high
Health care SUCKS that is if you can even afford it
    Housing market sucks
We are reliant on Oil/Coal when we could be reliant on renewable resources
A quarter of Asia just got wrecked by an earthquake and a tsunami
    Gas prices are sky high
The government is wasting billions of OUR MONEY on stupid shit.

"Some of Hollywood's biggest stars have attached their namesakes to a letter being sent off to President Obama, urging him to take a bigger stance for marriage equality in America."

S..M..F..H goddamn retards like this is why im not living in a utopia. America has been on a downward spiral due to retards like this.

    Hey gays, YOU..ARE..A..MINORITY!!

The state in which our country is is in a giant hole but you want to constantly bring up marriage? Fuck yourselves IDIOTS.

  5. 5

Marriage is between a man and a woman.

  6. 6

My god celebrities are stupid. Martin Sheen even played the president for like seven years so you would think he would have some sort of clue. The President does not make laws. Never has, never will. What you should have done was contact your Congress person. Because, duh, Congress makes the laws.
And another thing, I would say on a list of pressing issues affecting us right now gay marriage is way at the bottom of the list. Lets address the fact oil is going toward $5 a gallon and we still have not started drilling. There are more unemployed than gay people so lets fix the unemployment first.

  7. 7

Perez is the last person who should be calling out President Obama for prejudice and bigotry.Perez runs this blog in a very racist manner towards black people. He cannot be bothered to feature black acts unless it is something negative involved.

  8. 8

I do not care who gets married but I wish they would pass a law that says if gays can't get married then straights can't get divorced, that would be fun. And as far as Obama goes he said yes we can but I don't think we did, but did we really want to?

  9. 9

    Re: NookiesWA:D nice

  10. 10

human rights comes before anything in the world. every consenting adult should be allowed to marry any consenting adult. discrimination against the gay community must stop!

  11. 11

"yes u can" are common words to hypnosis scripts its in just about all of them and repeats over and over so unsprising u all been hypnotized …

    SUCKERS!!!!!!

they just need to make marriage legal and stop the eff around is american in the dark ages b ecause everyone else legalized this years ago

  12. 12

Obama made it clear before he got elected that he believes marriage should be between an man and a woman. I believe in marriage equality for all - don't get me wrong - but based on his statements, I don't think he will push for this.

  13. 13

He doesn't make the law nor can he pass any law on his own Hollywood needs to get a lesson in government ASAP.

  14. 14

The vast majority of Obama's supporters are heterosexual, and I'd be willing to bet that the majority of those supporters don't approve of gay marriage. He can't mandate that gays can marry; are all homosexuals completely unaware of how our government works? Morons! Perez, here's some truth for you: Obama can pay lip service to a whiny special interest, secure in the knowledge that he's not responsible for what does or doesn't happen to that special interest's agenda. Not everyone agress with gay marriage; in fact, most don't. Do you think he's going to risk losing the support of people who can get him re-elected? Of course not. If he has to choose a handful of gays or millions and millions against gay marriage, the outcome is obvious. And you guys will keep voting Democrat, so you'll vote for him anyhow. It's a win/win for Obama. Go take some civics courses, Mario, and stop beating your militant pink drum already. No one wants to marry you anyhow.

  15. 15

As much as I agree with gay marriage, I don't think it would be the right move for president Obama. There is so much more at stake, of course everyone deserves the same rights, no question about it, but with everything that he has on his plate and the fact that the republicans are always in his way, I don't think it will pass, sadly just like free health care… this is one of the reasons Canada is so awesome.

  16. 16

oh!! IF CELEBRITIES asked for it..then it shall be granted!!!!! shut the fuck up you self-involved airheads and let the president worry about japan and IMPORTANT shit.

  17. 17

HE said before he was elected….NO GAY MARRIAGE.

  18. 18

STATES pass the gay marriage law..NOT the president you imbecils.

  19. 19

it will never be a federal law passed for gay marriage, obama has said it clearly….that states would VOTE individually and if it won, it signed into state law…new york said NO…california said NO…so stfu mario…!!!!!!! citizens of your state said NO!! your ship has sailed and obama isnt going to change it for a bunch of dumbass celebrities

  20. joka says – reply to this

    20

haaa. all the celebs were so obsessed with obama at the beginning, 'aaahh! he's going to change everything! yay! we love him so much!' hahahhaa. looks like he isn't changing anything yet..ha jokes on YOU

  21. 21

Are you even aware of all the problems that Obama has to deal with right now? All this gay whining is really annoying

  22. 22

Re: tiggerchick5 – No he won't. The black community votes nearly 90% Dem. There is also polling that suggests that black voters are not concerned with this issue and would not switch their vote b/c of it.

  23. 23

obama will not come out for gay marriage unless you had a full proof poll saying that at least 75% of Americans approved of gays marrying. No, he will NOT come out saying we have to change OR make a FEDERAL LAW. Mario, he ALREADY SAID IT SHOULD BE UP TO INDIVIDUAL STATES. That was his way of DUMPING IT AWAY FROM WASHINGTON. AND FROM HIM. Which is wrong, because it should not be legal in one state and not another. BUT, IF YOU OPENED UP YOUR EYES MARIO, OBAMA DOES NOT WANT TO DEAL WITH CONTROVERSY, HE WANTS TO BE RE ELECTED. That, is not going to get him re elected. Besides, the world is blowing up around us, he really needs to look at that, instead of the final four

  24. 24

People were duped into a vote in exchange for thinking this issue would change. Sadly, it won't. He will lose too many votes. You attack people for supporting parties and yet you are a hypocrite yourself Perez, because you support a party who doesn't fully support your basic rights!

  25. 25

Marriage, under the constitution is controlled by the state. If he tries anything one the national level it will be unconstitutional. If you want gay marriage to pass, don't just bug him. Go vote in the smaller elections and elect your representatives. Your state representatives are the reason marriage is not legal in your state.

  26. 26

Yeah well, he's a busy man. All that lobster and Michelle's "lowfat" ribs aren't going to eat themselves. Off to Brazil, suckers.

  27. 27

It should be painfully obvious America is fascist and presidents have no say in any matter. mega banks/the Fed and stock holders make the laws not puppet actors they label Barrack Obama, ever wonder why your Gov. never taxes the rich? because the rich are your Government.

  28. 28

This cracks me up… the people crying about equality now are either dumb or deaf. The President was very clear … is his "let me be clear" tone he always uses, during the campaign. He said time and time again BEFORE he was president that he believed marriage was between a man and a woman! Was anyone listening? I sure was… don't complain now, next time PAY ATTENTION!!!

  29. 29

Go, Martin Sheen–I am so proud of you! He's always been involved in good causes and we haven't heard much from him lately or his super-cool son Emilio, which is probably smart of them. Praying for Charlie and I'm sure they are too!

  30. 30

this is was happens when people vote against someone rather than for someone else. everyone was so blinded by their hatred for the republican party during the last election, that they forgot to LISTEN to the opinions of who they were voting for. you all thought obama's opinions were on the opposite side of the spectrum, and you're only now figuring out that you may have made a little mistake .. on top of that, it's not even up to obama anyway. and if it were, he clearly has some bigger things to worry about at this present time. i'm completely for gay marraige, but the sad truth of it is that the majority of america, regardless of what hollywood celebrities say in that petition, is not on board with that. if they were, then gay marriage probably would be legalized in the majority of the country.

  31. 31

Re: Giovanna Spanti De Stefano – There is no such thing as "free healthcare" People who pay taxes pay for it. And I'll take the USA over Canada any day. At least we have freedom of speech unlike Canada who bans anyone they think is "hate speech." As for Obama, it would be nice if he would worry about the Middle East, our economy, Japan, unemployment, leading the world, you know, things the President should be doing. And Hollywood needs to shut up and act.

  32. 32

Yea, that letter will be effective.LOL No way hes going to piss off his black and latin supporters over this.

  33. 33

    Re: rejoyce2 – AMEN!!!

  34. 34

Re: NookiesWA – Do you realize that the very gay people that you have so much hatred for are also being affected by the things that you listed and complained about? Do you think that only hetrosexual people are suffering the effects of unemployment, costly healthcare, and a shitty economy? As far as I have read & seen these stupid celebrities are not only supporting gay rights but are also donating time and money to many other causes besides the one for basic human equality. Sandra Bullock just donated 1 million dollars to help the relief efforts in Japan. And there are many gay people who also do the same. I truly feel sorry for you for you are so blinded by hate it's no wonder you aren't living in this utopia you mentioned. It's not gay people preventing you from having that it's your hatred. And by the way if you hate gay people so much why the hell do you spend so much time on PerezHilton.com? Perez is one of the flamboyant, equal rights for all gays you hate so much?

  35. 35

I just think there are other things much more impotant that this country needs to be concered about rather than gay marrage. We have so mant issues as a nation and im sorry but this should not be at the top of the list, atleast not right now.

  36. 36

Re: Fumbling17 – Why on fucking earth would you even remotely try arguging what I just said. So you say gays are also hurting because of the economy? Well why the fuck bring up marriage when theres more important things effecting them. Seriously? Marriage? LOL. Gay people really are dumb if they want to fight to get married…Marriage…ROFL

  37. 37

Re: NookiesWA – Man you really don't get it do you? All of the issues are important to us some more than others. So fucking what if this gay person wants to fight for equal rights and the next one wants to be pissed about the god damn economy. My whole point was asshole that every person gay, straight or whatever has something that is important to them. Who are we to say what's more important than the next. I'm not bashing you for believing so strongly in what you do. Every issue that us as a country that we are faced with is important no matter what it is big or small, don't you get that? That's my point, but sadly I don't ever see you getting that. And it's people like you who prevent all of the humane race no matter who they are to progress and have any chance to live in harmony with one another.

  38. 38

Re: NookiesWA – And you never answered my question, why if you hate gays so much why are you such a PerezHilton.com follower? That's supporting a gay! You might just burst into flames!

  39. 39

Re: Fumbling17 – Well, For one perez himself does not post the majority of the things on this site. Anything that has him in it is ignored and not even read/posted on by me. Most things related to anything gay I do not click, read or reply. Unless the gay issues is brought up in this type of manner.

  40. 40

Re: NookiesWA – Yeah ok it looks like you've posted 1003 comments posted…hmm justify it anyway you want…you love this site. I just don't understand it you sit there and gay bash but yet you've posted that many comments and know so much about who's posting what and if it's really Perez or not. Seriously, why gay bash? You don't see a single gay person bashing you because you want affordable health care, why you ask? We want the same fucking thing. So why don't you use that negative energy and turn it into something positive, for oh I don't know help fix some of those problems you feel so strongly about that WE all feel the effects of.

  41. 41

Re: Fumbling17 – We obviously don't want the same thing. I call gay people idiotic/dumb/stupid/retarded because your priorities are screwed up. Do you honestly think I care what people shove up their ass in their own home that they pay for? No I do not. But when gays are pushing marriage equality on ANYONE in our government it makes me face palm. What makes it even worse is that time, effort and media attention about gay issues is actually focused on.

  42. 42

Re: NookiesWA – Once again there you go saying who's priorities are screwed up and who's aren't. Who gives you the fucking right? Nobody that's who. Like I said before you're nothing but a finger pointing, blame throwing, hating bigot, xenophobe. Do you seriously think that the government just sits around and tries to figure out how to create equality for all and says fuck it to all the other issues at hand just because it creates more of a controversy than the others? They have to give equal time and effort to all the issues even if it's not seen through the media. This is a monumental movement whether you like it or not just as affirmative action, civil rights and woman's lib was, but then I suppose you have issues with those as well. Hating one person's way of life isn't going to fix another's.

  43. 43

Re: Fumbling17 – Actually yes it would. Eradication of some minorities and possible countries would make the world a better place. Truth. Middle East, Africa, Mexico, etc. We should either take them over or bomb them.

  44. 44

Re: NookiesWA – Wow you truly are one sick fuck.
