Devastating. Truly a horrific loss.
Officials from Japan estimate that the death toll from last week’s destructive earthquake and tsunami will exceed 18,000 deaths.
Specifically, the National Police Agency reports that the overall number of bodies collected so far stands at 8,649, while 12,877 people have been listed as missing. It’s hard to get an exact count, however, as sources point out many bodies were swept out to sea with the tsunami.
Furthermore, Miyagi, the region hit hardest by the tsunami, estimates that it lost more than 15K in their area alone.
So sad. Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the families who have lost their homes and loved ones to this tragedy.
