Cleopatra May Be Comin' At Ya With David Fincher's Help

| Filed under: Angelina JolieFilm Flickers

David Fincher best picture please

He may not have won best picture or director this year, but if he signs on to direct Cleopatra based off of Stacy Schiff's biography Cleopatra: A Life, we have a feeling he will!

Since James Cameron and Paul Greengrass have dropped out, David Fincher is currently in talks to healm Sony Picture's Cleopatra biopic film with Angelina Jolie attached to star as the Egyptian queen.

As we mentioned before, the film is being produced by super-producer Scott Rudin who worked with Fincher on The Social Network, as well as the upcoming Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, so it sounds like this is a legitimate possibility!

However, his committment will come down to timing because word is that Sony wants to get this project moving ASAP and the busy director is expected to return for the next installment in The Millennium Trilogy, The Girl Who Played With Fire.

The director is ALSO attached to Disney's 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: Captain Nemo, so again, TIMING is a major element of his involvement.

We're crossing our fingers for Fincher to take on Cleopatra because we'd love to see his work complimented by Angelina Jolie's elegant acting!

Do U think David Fincher should direct Cleopatra?

  1. uyeah says – reply to this

They should cast someone other than Angelina. It will flop with her in it. Women don't want to see her.

Re: uyeah – Right you are uyeah. I can't understand why they would even consider casting Angelina in this role. This movie will be crazy expensive to make. It WILL lose money with her in it. When was the last time she carried a hit movie? uyeah hit the nail on the head…women don't want to see her and men will not be flocking to see a movie about Cleopatra, no matter who is in it.

This is a big mistake. If they would develop a story about Akhenaten and Nefertiti, I could see Angelina wearing that dbl crown, Adrien Brody as the ill-fated Pharoah, all leading up to the murder of Tut. How many times will Hollywood remake Cleopatra? Everyone knows Cleopatra had a big nose, but Nefertiti is still known as the most beautiful women even today.

Here's an idea: why don't they actually cast an middle eastern woman to play cleopatra. Has Hollywood forgotten that Cleopatra was a woman of colour?

  5. 5

Plus. Angelina did a horrible job at playing a macedonian and half black woman already in two other movies. Find a middle eastern woman PLEASE!

Really wish they would make a movie about one of the MANY MANY other Pharaohs with far more interesting stories to tell instead of re-hashing Cleopatra…again.
I'd much rather see an epic film about Hatshepsut, Akhenaten and the Amarna, Any of the Ramesses and their great battles, etc etc
But…if they must redo the story of Cleopatra yet again *yawn* please don't cast Jolie. Try casting someone new.
oh and NIKI6D - Cleopatra was GREEK, part of the Ptolemaic dynasty. But i Do agree someone other than Jolie would be MUCH better suited, regardless of their nationality.

James Cameron is a fool if he thinks Angelina will make his film profitable. Angelina is no longer an actress i want to see on the big or little screen unless she has tape over her mouth. My head hurts when she tries accents, it all sounds the same and her beauty is the only thing that saves her as an actress.

He is Angelina and brad friend that is a plus.
    Mabel leaf: SALT!.
TT Has a horrible story, she and deep do their best to save that movie but you can´t blame them if wasn´t the big movie.
    a movie is 3 things
    1.-the story
    2.-the direction.
    3.-the performance

This has big budget flop written all over it. Elizabeth Taylor could not pull this off, and I doubt Angelina can…Cleopatra might have been beautiful and intriguing, but if there is no story there, then Hollywood should stop shoving stories down her throats.

  12. 12

Angelina might have been OK years ago. But 1) she's now about as old as Cleopatra was when she killed herself, 2) she's a turn off to female movie-goers, and 3) she carries so much baggage with her that only an action flick can obscure. She's also no good at accents and isnt much of an actress. If theyre goint to make this, they should try a younger, middle eastern actress.

  13. 13

I won't be seeing it. And if my husband wants to he can see it alone…

And I thought Cleopatra was Greek….

  14. 14

Why Angelina Jolie???? Does anyone know anything about History?? Contrary to popular belief, Cleopatra VII was NOT very attractive. It was her charm and charisma that stood out. Think about Bill Clinton as a female Egyptian pharaoh that lived several hundred years ago. While I think that Angelina's looks are somewhat overrated, I think she is way to attractive to play Cleopatra. Filmmakers PLEASE READ A HISTORY BOOK!!

  15. 15

Why Angelina!. I dont dislike her as an actress… but come on!. It needs to be another actress!. This will be the most fake Cleopatra since Eli Taylor. Hasnt they learnt anything?.

Re: Gilbert Bumpucker – Perhaps cause Nefertiti and Ankhenaton story is full of supositions and hypothesis and very lil tales are known about them, that thanks to them they could sort of fit their story. The only strange thing Akhenaton has done was to believe in one single god and try to destroy all other gods. Thats it. Hell of a story. No. But like someone else said, there are other plenty of amazing more interesting pharaos.
