Kate Walsh Embarrassed For Not Having Kids

Kate Walsh sat down with More magazine and talked about her rough divorce, career, and aging.

Check out these excerpts to learn more about her crazy life!

On her tabloid divorce
"Oh my God. The worst thing ever. It was so public, and yet it was so legal-embroiled. You couldn't talk about anything…"

On lessons learned from marriage and a short courtship
"I've always had the courage thing down, but then I had to develop the rest. I've learned to seek other people's counsel more. That's a good part of growing up."

On not having children
"I feel like a loser. I would definitely love to be a parent. But I definitely don't think I want to do it on my own. Things are just going to go the way they go… I thought I'd be married and have three or four kids. I always knew I wanted to be an actress, but I think I always wanted a quote-unquote normal life because I had a very untraditional upbringing."

Well, if you feel like a loser why don't you adopt? I mean oh my gosh you have the funds, and there are kids out there that need someone, and you feel like a loser. Well, boo fricken hoo!! A lot of us would like to adopt but don't have the money, and yes it's best to have two parents, but if not, you adapt and you bring mentors of the opposite sex in to be there for your child…I would love to be in your position…

Re: cap chick – maybe she meant genetically? not everyone believes in adopting other people's kids, I think everyone agrees overall that every nation state should take care of orphans and maybe even promote adoption but no one should be bullied into adopting someone else's progeny and raising them as their own.

Re: cap chick – I agree with you, in a way, that she could always adopt. But at the same time I also understand that it's different when you have your own kids and husband and you really feel like you became a mother. It's hard to explain but I see where she's coming from and I kinda feel bad for her.

Awww that's sad. I feel her pain for the last one. It does feel bad not having had any kids sometimes. Also about wanting a normal life because she never had one growing up. I can really relate to that third statement.

She should not feel like a loser at all….Many women do not have children biologically for all kinds of reasons….Modern women have so many other things to juggle now…..not such a priority…She could do it alone and more power to her…

There should be no stigma about not having kids. Women can & do certainly have very fulfilling lives without them. Better for the planet too.

Re: cap chick – She doesn't think she wants to be a parent on her own. So why would she adopt on her own? She can obviously adopt later if she really wants children.

Why should anyone be embarrassed for NOT having kids? It's your personal choice. If you don't want to have kids, fine, it's your life and you should live the way you choose. Don't be dictated by society that all women should have kids.

Awww. There are so many kids that Kate could start helping right now. Poverty and disenfranchisement are everywhere. Imagine helping a hundred kids to grow up to have better lives. I love her honesty. Some of the best things are borne of unfulfilled wishes and private pain.

Re: denverite – So true. It sucks that there is a stigma.

  11. 11

I don't understand why there's such a stigma over a woman having no children. It's like no matter what she accomplishes in life, the only focus is how she has no children.

  12. 12

Poor thing! She shouldn't feel bad for not having kids. As women, we put so much unnecessary pressure on ourselves to have children. It's as if we are all trying to "keep up with the Jones" n a maternal way but personal happiness should come from that which makes you happy consistently. She obviously didn't feel it was right becoming pregnant while she was married; nothing wrong with that, as the marriage eventually ended in divorce. I hope she can find personal happiness in her work, her friends (aka "family") and knowing that she's been very charitable in this world, by which she's made a tremendous impact on the lives of many children, I'm sure. Chin up, Kate and stop beating yourself up over this one.

Boo hoo, feel sorry for me. Heck, she is one big selfish woman and never wanted kids in the first place. Now she has to say these things cuz ppl are coming down on her for not wanting them years ago. All of you that feel sorry for her, don't, it's all for publicity. She is very happy being childless.

  14. 14

Meh, I didn't have kids and I'm glad it turned out that way. Kate needs to cut herself a break and enjoy her life. Maybe then what she's looking for will come along.

  15. 15

She should not be embarrassed! There are too many humans on this planet! I'm not having any children because of that. Having children today is SELFISH, more people should adopt instead of bringing more and more people to this over-populated planet.

  16. 16

Such comments set women back. Children make lives bigger, and when lucky and prepared, better, but no one should place the burden of succeeding in one's own life on having a child.

  17. 17

Of course today's women don't have to feel like they have to have a child.. I didn't write that.. She wrote " I would love to be a mom" and I was pointing out she if that's what she wants, she has the means to make that happen triple-fold!!
And I think it's great women are not pressured into having children if they don't want to, and I have the utmost respect for those that have made that choice..

Re: quacksil – There AREN'T too many humans on this planet. The entire world population would fit into Texas with room for each to grow their own food. I kid you not. It's the sustainability that needs improvement.

Well- I know someone who's had personal interaction with kate walsh- her acting talent aside, she can be a not-so-nice lady. If fixing her life would help her be more professional and becoming, maybe she should adopt. Either that, or take counsel from someone who will help her chill out.
