obama calls for gay rights support in un

This is exactly what we like to hear!

Today, President Barack Obama will call for "the United Nations' top human rights body to combat discrimination against gays and lesbians around the world."

Obama wants "nations to end any criminal punishments against lesbians, gays and bisexuals," and he's asking "the global body to review how governments treat them in the UN's human rights assessments. "

Currently, this declaration by the U.S. has support from over 80 countries.

Here's what deputy assistant secretary of state for international organizations Suzanne Nossel had to say on the subject:

"We are very concerned that individuals continue to be killed, arrested and harassed around the world because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. This statement sends a strong message from across the globe that such abuses should not be tolerated."

Way to go, Obama! We're very happy to hear this! We hope your presentation to the UN goes very well!

EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL!

What about the discrimination against overweight people? They are bullied every day too because of their size. Discrimination against all people who are different is wrong, not just gays.

How ironic the Nobel Peace Prize winner goes to war to bring 'peace'.
How very George Bush of the Bamster.
That's sort of like screwing to bring virginity, no?
    -
So the citizens of Libya are more important, and need to be 'protected', than Tunisians, Morroccons, Egyptians and Yemenites are what, Mr. President?
    -
Just 'cuz Europe gets a shit load of oil from Libya we go to war?
Come on Libs, let's chant, "No blood for oil, No blood for oil".
    That the spirit.

mind what happens in your country, you don't need to enlighten the rest of the world…educate your children to stop bullying..good message, but clean your own backyard first!

    THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!

At every chance he gets, the Bamster always likes throwing out our Constitution and would like our soildiers to go before The Hague for trial and submit ourselves before the UN, the biggest bunch of tyrants in the world.
Bigger than Chicago politicians and union bosses.

Hey, Bozo, we are Americans. Fought a war to not be a part of Europe.

I just think it is ironic that a president is espousing the rights of the LBGT's community, yet has not officially come out to endorse gay marriage. In my mind it is a little hypocritical.

  9. 9

How about he worry about rising gas prices, unemployment, rising crime rates and a million other things first before something like this. I think he has more pressing issues

  10. 10

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA! You are the dumbest of the dumb Perez. Odumba makes yet another empty statement that holds NO weight, has no backup and means nothing to the countries that do these things, just to get the gays back on his side and you all fall for it. All talk, no action. Way to once again, NOT address any of the issues that need addressing …. skyrocketing gas prices, economy in the shitter, etc etc etc.

Obama is not talking about equal rights, it's equal protection under the law. What ever their existing laws are. In some countries that doesn't amount to much. Keep in mind the LGBs call for equal rights is going to be a very long fight. Women in this country are still working on that. Many countries abroad will never see women as equals so don't get your hopes up overseas. We can thank mostly religion for this mess.

Can't America for once fix its on problems before kicking in the door of other countries? Obama should fix with the gay rights in the US before telling other countries what to do.

  13. 13

With everything going on around the world and this is what he chooses to talk about?

Re: luvs2tango – It's not about right or left. It's by design. So was Iraq and Afghanistan, imo. The grand plan is on a need to know.

i can't see how people don't think this is a big issue, people are put in prison and even killed just for loving someone. it's so wrong! and for people to say that it doesn't really matter is just SO stupid. wake the hell up people! :L

He might as well, as the success promoting equality in the U.S. hasn't been very high. Other countries are way beyond in this issue. They're probably wondering why the U.S. is waving the sceptre considering their record at home on this issue.
I guess countries who are more homophobic than the U.S. might be listening.

We just bombed Libya! Gay rights? What about our economy? Why are they trying to distract people from what is important!!! I'm gay, but that is a low priority compared to people who are without jobs and we just spent how much money blowing up another nation??? Where is the outrage from the American People!??? Who gives a fuck about gay rights when we are spending so much money fighting a war that nobody understands!!! WE ARE THE TERRORISTS if we don't stand up to our government!

    Re: ladyfatale01 – It's COMPLETELY hypocritical.

  20. 20

Now if only he could explain why discrimination is wrong to the ignorant redneck republicans of this country.

  21. 21

    Re: serioux – AMEN!

  22. 22

Re: zobiana – there are a hell of a lot of ignorant people in this country, including some redneck republicans, but there is discrimination across the board regardless of political view. Hope you don't consider yourself open minded because that comment certainly is not.
