This is truly disappointing.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals denied a motion today to lift the stay on same-sex marriages in the state of California, while the federal decision to reverse Proposition 8 is appealed, without giving any explanation as to why.

As a response, the American Foundation for Equal Rights released this statement:

“Several weeks ago, we filed a motion with the US Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit asking the Court to lift its stay and allow California’s gay and lesbian couples to marry. We felt then, as we do now, that it is decidedly unjust and unreasonable to expect California’s gay and lesbian couples to put their lives on hold and suffer daily discrimination as second-class citizens while their U.S. District Court victory comes to its final conclusion.

It is un-American to deprive gay and lesbian couples of their fundamental constitutional right to marry. These are adults in committed, loving relationships who just want to live their lives without government interference.

Last August, the U.S. District Court declared Proposition 8 unconstitutional. We believe that the courts will permanently secure the freedom to marry for all Californians."

Exactly!

Once again, the rights of gays and lesbians across this state have been STRIPPED from us, and we don't even get the decency of explanation as to why!

Shameful and so, so wrong.

Especially since it's only delaying the inevitable! EQUAL RIGHTS FOR ALL.

It's coming, whether you like it or not!

With as many people that like to bash Perez for being "the gay site," This really does suck. Prop 8's passing in '08 made me ashamed not only to be a Californian, but an American as well.

Something is really wrong with America. It used to be such a progressive nation. Now it has become the nation people laugh at. Hypocritical with "liberty and justice FOR ALL"

  3. 3

If you can't get this passed in ultra-liberal California, there's no chance it will pass nationwide.

Bauahahhahahahahaha LOL LMAO. HAHAHA. Now only if the government grows a pair and decides to start the eradication process.

No offense to most American's, but i'm really glad to be a Canadian. I would not like to live in a country where same sex marriages is not welcome when it doesn't harm anyone, were as the West Buro Baptist Church can be allowed to picket and spread their hate at funerals. American's really need to check what their priorities are?

Hmmmm…. And from the most liberal state in the union.

disgusting….gay rights is just like the feminist movements, religious equality, and black rights. it will come, and in 50 years the people against it will looks back and be like "WHAT were we thinking???"

You really don't know why? Election, 2012. If the percentage against it is higher,
then they do whatever to retain their base.

Re: tallchick – It's not a nationalistic thing. The minute the percentages swing heavier in the populace FOR gay marriage, the politicians will jump all over it. The bandwagon will fill quicker than you can say federal pension.

We have had same sex marriages in most of Europe for over five years. The USA has always been slow in catching up with the changes, it will happen just hold on in. Or marry a European.
I might add that some of the stuff you allow both politicians and the public to say about gays ( and any other minority regardless of sex, disability, orientation, religion etc) is against the law and in Europe they would be jailed.
The USA is a great country, but frankly a bit behind the times.
As an example almost a third of the UK cabinet is gay and half of them are married to men, can you see this happening in the US?

Why?? Are you an idiot Perez? Why is because Prop 8 was voted in, by the people, in accordance with the law and the democratic vote, which IS the American way. Right or wrong, it is fact. You, nor anyone else can simply say "I don't like it" and make it go away. There is no way this can be "set aside" because you don't like it. The court process MUST be completed in order to overturn anything. That's the law.
