  1. 1

    Who's Coby ?

  2. 2

What a CROCK! A heavy-handed one sided story of "oh, pity me, I'm a victim." Even though someone went out of their way to help you and get you connected and build a career for you…suddenly you think you don't dare sing a song in Hebrew because "people won't connect to you"!! Sounds like the kid was manipulating George and has some personal self-loathing Anti-Semetic feelings about himself that he needs to deal with. The kid has no audience to alienate! And what - if they found out he's Jewish they won't listen to him? Dude - grow the hell up. It was a Hebrew song - so what!

  3. 3

Why isnt this also under "gay gay gay" and your over used ”Inspirational” since it relates a gay man, boy george. Boy George probably wanted to shag the guy and he refused, he has been charged or arrested for his sexual assault before. Anyways, as Perez says, SO Inspirational!!!!!!

  4. 4

There are two sides to every story, and could it be that someone in an attempt to make a name for themselves is playing victim??? Wouldnt be the first time, I wouldnt judge Boy George based on this story alone, after all it sounds like Boy George was extremely generous to this guy….there has to be more to this story. Also if he wants his career to flourish sometimes to do whatever it takes and if singing in Hebrew is so offensive perhaps he offended Boy George by his refusal. It isnt like he was asked to sing it publicly or record it, it was for the crew…..and really how do you force someone to sing he didnt hold a gun to the guys head…sounds sketchy to me.

How would singing in Hebrew alienate your audience????? This reeks of yet another anti-semite… I find it sick. Good for Boy George for getting rid of this awful person once he found out his true nature!

  6. 6

    Just sing the damn song!

  7. 7

Been there done that everyone will take Boy George's side. Don't bother talking about it Coby cause you'll get shit on by the world for talking about it. Wait till you make a name for yourself then bring the story to light. Otherwise you get pinned for trying to just get attention when in fact that may not be the case. (don't know the guy). If BG was any better he would just leave him alone or work it out privately. I almost think BG got hit with the jealousy bug. Keep singing you don't need any of them whatever may or may not have happened.

  8. 8

gosh - the same happened to me with Bronski Beat's Steve, we also had a fight. Did I went to the press? No, I released my song by myself: Marlonski "Dragonfly" (Pop, Dance, 80s, 90s).

  9. 9

boy george = whack job. Losing!

  10. 10

Just Googled this Coby - umm, not exactly a "young singer" trying to make it. The guy's a grown ass man that should know better than whine whine whine I didn't get Boy George to make me an international star. AND could the guy look any gayer?? I mean he makes Boy George look a normal straight guy from your church.

  11. 11

George was sooo beautiful back in the day. I wish he would try a little harder now.

  12. 12

Boy George and Coby Koehl are equally bad. They both are very nasty unpleasant people who deserve each other and are equally to blame for this situation.
I'm guessing maybe the reason Coby didn't want to sing the song is not because it was in Hebrew but was because it was religious. There are a lot of people who are culturally Jewish but not observant or super religious and so why should Coby sing something he doesn't believe in? Coby probably wanted to be a pop star, not a rabbi preaching to everyone about God.
George was wrong for bullying him into singing the song, but Coby was wrong for going to the media.
And Coby is not so innocent when it comes to being mean and bitchy to people he's Boy George's equal. So i say, good riddance to both of these losers.

  13. 13

This Coby character should thank his lucky stars that Boy George didn't chain him up and whim him for his impertinence.

  14. 14

This is just my opinion here and pls don't bite my head off but if it's his voice, doesn't he get to decide where he sings what ? Just sayin', I'm Roman Catholic and proud of it but I'm not launching a career w/ Ave Maria. It might sound nice but what direction would I be headed?

  15. 15

Everyone cries Coby's an anti-semite but in my view George is just a zionist jerk that got his big gay panties in a knot when someone actually said NO to him!

  16. 16

Just listened to "I'm going Home" on youtube. Damn, just stick to the tune. All these American Idol type vocal acrobatics get on my nerves. Okay, so you can cram 50 different notes into 2 seconds. Good for you. Now, let's get back to the actual melody.

  17. 17

probably best for this kid not to be associated with this fat has been drag queen

  18. 18

Boy George is the victim. He put himself out there to help a NO BODY and then the NO BODY wouldn't do as he asked. How RUDE!

  19. 19

I really don't have that much sympathy for Coby though. Everyone knows what Boy George is like that he's a controlling bitch who's extremely difficult to work with. Was Coby living under a rock? Didn't he read George's books and interviews? I'm sure a lot of what Coby is saying about George is true but he had to know George was going to be like that going into the thing. But I guess he was willing to put up with that for fame.

  20. 20

Obviously this Coby person should have sung that Hebrew song… When you're given a career opportunity like that you shouldn't argue and be a diva with the people that are helping you… He bit the hand that fed him and now he's paying the price. He won't get any pity from me. Now his chances of making it in the music industry are nil.

  21. 21

Re: Marcus75YOW – Why doesn't Coby have the right to not sing a song if he doesn't want to? Coby can still make it in the music if he wants to. I don't know why he hooked up with Boy George anyway. Boy George can't even manage his own career. George hasn't had a hit in years. What makes Coby think George could really do anything that great for him?
Coby is definitely rude and a diva too, but he does have the right to decide what he wants to sing and what he doesn't. It's called artistic freedom.

  22. 22

George is amazing, generous and can be very sweet BUT he has a "prickly" side like most of us. You just have to be ready when faced with it. He know how tough it is to not only break into that biz but stay in it for all these years. He's been beaten up a lot psychologically and one should be prepared walking into any situation like this for ANYTHING. Coby is such a wonderful, lovely and extremely talent person. This seems like a silly unfortunate misunderstanding that got blown way out of proportion. Nobody wins. Just bad vibes all the way around. Life is too short for unnecessary drama. Get over it. Move onward and upward. Go for your dreams Coby and don't let anything get you down. You are too special for THIS.

  23. 23

Reading all of these comments and am wondering a couple of things…..If everyone knows of George's antics, why has no one spoken up by now. Who let's people treat them that way? Talented or not? Plus I find it odd that so many are so passionate about one persons story, that can clearly be confirmed with anyone who has ever worked, read about, or follows George. Here's a question…..if your son, daughter, niece, nephew, friend, etc…. gets a call from Boy George to come and record with him….would you not warn them?

  24. 24

    that's showbusiness

  25. 25

Re: WigGuy – Couldn't have put it better myself.

  26. 26

I personally knew Coby and he's a liar and blame others for his failure.
Trust -He lead people to think he is sweet but the truth is he's a backstabbing jerk.
I am not surprised Coby is pulling tricks so people thinks he is the victim. Shame Shame time will tell …..

  27. 27

It's unfortunate but this story does not only illuminate Coby's sad tale, but also the bitter, spiteful and hateful nature of others who were not involved, have no true idea of what happened and yet are fully prepared to make ill-informed judgments and hurl insults at someone they do not know.

  28. 28

Re: pppathetic – His version of "I'm Going Home" is fantastic. It was a live performance and people expect more in person. Coby is able to sing all types of songs in all types of ways, from soft and simple to the vocal acrobatics of many belters. It may not be your taste, but there is no denying this boy has talent galore.

  29. 29

Re: WigGuy – That was not the issue. Clearly he's not an anti-semite for a few reasons…1) He's JEWISH 2) He recorded the song after this incident. The problem was that Coby is a neo-soul singer and did not want to alienate HIS audience by singing something they wouldn't understand for his DEBUT on American television. And if you think that people wouldn't be like "what they …." you're kidding yourself.
As for your other comments - George asked Coby to come to London, not the other way around, so how could Coby be the manipulator. Your speculations are your opinions and you have the right to them. But opinions are not facts, and since you don't have any, you shouldn't make assumptions about his character.

  30. 30

Re: NYCStar – Oh you KNOW Coby? Really? Who the hell are you? I've known Coby for over 20+ years and can tell from your comments that you're just another obsessive Boy George fan who is spreading lies to try to discredit Coby. It's because of dishonest pieces of shit like you that Coby did this interview…for vindication. Do yourself a favor and let George fight his own battles and stop making shit up.

  31. 31

Re: Glindathegood – Your tirades have become tiresome. We all know who you are…aka Fionathebitch, and isn't it about time you got yourself some semblance of a social life so you can stop spreading your malicious bullshit all over the internet. I'm amazed at how anonyminity in cyberspace makes people like you feel confident enough to spread vicious lies and spew bullshit at every possible moment. I'm sure you are not so mouthy and opinionated in person. Just another spineless coward hiding behind a keyboard and putting others down to feel better about yourself. You don't know Coby, have never met him, never talked to him, so stop perpetrating these things.
I hear you live in DC, where I am. I'd LOVE to meet you and we can continue this discussion in person.

  32. 32

hey, i remember, coby, when u came home from your second trip from england. u were so sad, confused, and upset by what had transpired. and…. u had no idea the whyfore. i read the article where you're discussing w/ the interviewer what happened. i only read facts. no mud-slinging, not a bad word about BG. i don't get it. why is everyone ragging on u? listen, you've got a voice 2 die 4. keep on singing. you'll get 2 where u want to "get" and look back on all of this and smile.

  33. 33

    Re: Sean D

Whatever. I know him very well. He just opened a can of worms. You are the one with 'obsessive character'. Face the facts - Coby burned bridges with his childish sneaky behavior and lying. This is not the first time!!

  34. 34

This is a crappy piece that has zero credibility. Attribution, writers!! How about a few words from George's camp? I realize gossip doesn't need to be fair and balanced, but if you want it to have any credibility at all, get some attribution. This piece sounds like Coby called your writer up and boo-hooed on the phone—and the writer made the conversation into a story. The thing I don't get about this blog is that it really is a digital goldmine, but the writing and editing are so lacking. Imagine what this blog could be if you stepped it up a bit!!

  35. 35

Re: Sean D – Did you actually read what I said? I said Coby did have the right to not record the song and George is difficult to work with and George was probably mean to Coby. But the problem is Coby is equally mean back so he's not in a good position to talk about how bad George is. Coby has not helped himself by going to the media and talking about all this. Now other artists wont work with Coby because they are afraid he will blab in the media about them. Do you realize you are not helping Coby by threatening me and attacking me? You are only confirming what a mean person Coby is.
It's all a joke anyway because Vh1 would never have aired Coby's song. The BTM show was mostly about Culture Club and George and Jon Moss. Why would they put an unknown person singing on it?

  36. 36

A leopard can't change his spots. Bully Boy George doesn't get along with anyone or know how to behave properly or with any kind of dignity or class. He has slandered everyone.somebody finally stood up to this douche.whoever this kid is he has balls.I hope he has talent & makes it big.

ON MADONNA: "I just think she's a vile, hideous, horrible human being with no redeeming qualities. There's nothing nice about her. I've never heard anyone say anything nice about her at all."

ON ROBBIE WILLIAMS: "He could use my help. The last album was terrible. He's at that point where he's just throwing anything out. He needs another 'Angels' or something really classy."

ON ANDREW LLOYD WEBBER: "[People] always go on about 'theatre is a dying art form and we must save it', and then we just put on another Andrew Lloyd Webber re-run. It's tragic."

ON ELTON JOHN (after a hotel lift failed on him): "Imagine if that was Elton John, the drama that would have ensued? David Furnish would be spitting feathers right now."

  37. 37

Re: Sean D – You know why I stopped respecting Coby? When he and George were best buddies, I made one mild comment that I didn't like a certain song by George. Coby flew in a rage and said the most horrible things to me, because I said one song was not George's best work. It's clear to me Coby has serious anger issues as do people like you who are around him. He should work on that or he will never become successful.
You and Coby get so enraged over a few Boy George fans attacking you. What are you going to do if Coby really does become famous and he's in the tabloids and the press all the time being criticized? You'd probably have a cardiac arrest.

  38. 38

Re: shellyZ – Everything you say about George is true to some extent. He has been mean to people a lot in the past. And I don't approve of a lot of his behavior. But he has apologized to Madonna, the other members of CC, George MIchael, Elton John and a lot of other people. Just because George was bad in the past doesn't mean Coby is an angel.
I don't like George and I"m not someone who defends him when he is wrong. So coming from me, you can believe it when I say Coby is not a nice person and not an innocent victim. I find it telling George said he was too nice. "Too nice" is code for phony and fake. Some people pretend to be nice but aren't.

  39. 39

Just so you see I"m objective, I also have to tell you George' s "new" record Ordinary Alien is horrible. It's not even new but a bunch of previously heard songs remixed. There is no melody but endless club thumping in the most generic 90's house sound. No well crafted songs at all. Will George ever put the effort in to make a really good record again? I guess we will have to wait for the new CC album if there is one.

  40. 40

Re: hung37 – sounds like you would defend george no matter what.my point was that george most likely treated this coby person just as badly as he's treated everyone else.I'm sure it wasn't the other way around.so this one time george is a saint & perfect?& coby is the devil?coby who I googled has nothing but nice things said &written about him on the net & a fantastick voice.george has thousands of negative rants & story's written & attached to his name.including bashing everyone in his culture club band, just hateful.maybe george resented coby for all the things loved about him at first.JELOUS maybe?

  41. 41

Re: hung37 – Actually it's not just my lazy opinion. Almost all the reviews of Ordinary Alien have been negative from the press and music critics. The lyrics are very simplistic, nothing like George's other good lyrics on his other albums.
Lazy is not bothering to record new songs, but remixing old songs they have heard many times before.

  42. 42

Re: shellyZ – Just because George was mean to other people in the past doesn't mean he was wrong in this one case. No one not even Boy George is wrong 100% of the time. I would believe the story too if I had never had any contact with Coby. But since I have, I know he is not the victim and not so nice.
Yes, George bashed the other members of CC, but look how they handled it. They did not go to the press and badmouth him for money and threaten to reveal personal things about him. If Coby has a problem with George, why can't he talk to George man to man instead of bashing him in the media?

  43. 43

Re: hung37 – well my opinion DOES seem to count & has you all in a fantastick rage,so maybe the truth hurts.YOUR HERO IS A TYRENT.PERIOD END OF STORY!Birds of a feather stick together.LOL

  44. 44

Hung37, I have already bought the cd and am looking forward to "Turn to dust" being released as a single, but if you are a fan of George you should know that he can be a hard and rude man. George is not a saint and I have to agree with
Glindathegood (or F….), they are both to blame for what happened.

  45. 45

Re: hung37 – Yes, It is lazy when you don't release a record in ten years and then release remixed old songs. His previous solo record You can Never b 2 straight also had previously released stuff. Yes, other artists release remixed stuff but they release new cd's every two years also like Lady Gaga.
The djing is the problem. George is so busy djing and rushing around the world, he isn't bothered to write new songs. What's the big deal about djing? It's just playing other people's songs. Where is the creativity there?
Yes, George is an icon and legend for what he did in the 80's with Culture Club, but certainly not for the recycled crap that is Ordinary Alien.

  46. 46

Re: NYCStar – You don't know him well at all. This sounds like Colin Lively. The only people who have problems with Coby are the ones who he doesn't let take advantage of him. As for my being obsessive…it's called being a real friend, you douchebag. Perhaps if you had some that you really cared about, you'd stick up for their truth too.

  47. 47

Re: JackedInPHX – There has been plenty from George's camp over the last year. It was Coby who kept quiet. And he didn't call the writer up - someone else did, and they asked Cody to do it. He agreed but insisted that he wouldn't say anything too salacious out of respect for George's family. Read the original at US Magazine's blog.

  48. 48

Re: hung37 – no one disputed Georges accomplishments as as an artist, but why deny that he's capable of being hateful, mean spirited & vile to people he is threatened by?

  49. 49

Re: hung37 – George fucked it up, not Coby. And I'm not going to bash George as an artist cause I'm a huge fan. However, all those artistic accomplishments that you mentioned say nothing about him as a person, and he is well known for his brash and rude behavior.
And clearly, George does care - he's been tweeting about this non-stop.

  50. 50

Re: Glindathegood – I'm not threatening you. I simply said your tirades have gotten repetitive and redundant. You defended Coby's right not to sing the song - and you were right - but then you continued to attack his character and give the impression that you know him. Which you don't. Never met him. Never spoke to him. Never even seen him in person. It's the lies that you always perpetuate that I pounced on, and if you had an ounce of credibility, you'd see that and not try to turn my comments about you into something they weren't.

  51. 51

Re: Glindathegood – See what I mean? You're a lying piece of filth. You've never had contact with him. If you had and could present facts about your experience then I would understand. Stop lying all over the internet to make a point. You're worse than George and all the people you complain about. A miserable, bitter human being.

  52. 52

Re: Glindathegood – Oh, one more thing. Coby did NOT get paid for his story. He wasn't trying to make money on it. And based on ALL your other comments about George on YouTube and other sites, you know damn well that there is no talking to him once he's mad.

  53. 53

You've got that right. It's not my taste. Listen to the original version of the song by the Original Roxy (Broadway) Cast. That's talent.

  54. 54

Re: Sean D – No, I haven't met Coby in person, but I've seen his comments online and they have been very abusive. George himself never said one negative word about Coby until after Coby started attacking him. Now maybe some of George's fans said negative things about Coby but George himself isn't responsible for them. George is only tweeting about it because Coby started it.
If Coby wanted to be treated as equal, perhaps he should have contributed equally to the recording costs. Instead he let George pay for everything. Is Coby broke? Why couldn't he pay his own way. In a band, you split recording costs equally.

  55. 55

Re: hung37 – Taboo isn't a solo album because George isn't singing on all of the songs. And anyway Taboo was started in England before You Can Never B 2 Straight came out. You have no idea what I look like. I'm actually very attractive. How childish to attack someone for their looks because they don't like a record. You can't dispute the fact that all the songs on Ordinary Alien have been heard before either released or on the Internet although maybe in slightly different versions. You have to insult me because you can't deal with the truth.

  56. 56

Re: Sean D – Not as redundant as yours. You are the bitter horrible person. You are making Coby look bad not helping him one bit. Do you really expect people to believe a writer from Us magazine called up Coby? No one knows who he is. Only a few people saw some negative fan comments about Coby, but everyone say the Us magazine piece. Now Coby is known as someone who gossips to get publicity not a person with talent.
Why would George do a tour with an unknown like Coby anyway? How does that benefit George? George doesn't have many fans anymore so he would want to do something with an artist with their own fan base not an unknown no one cares about like Coby.
Is Coby going to pay George back all the money George spent on him?

  57. 57

Coby Koehl, you are an amazing singer, hands down without question. You were treated unfairly by Boy George, period. You would cut off you're right arm for the people you love, and that's all there is to it. Anything else is just noise. This, I know for a fact. Let them get hysterical over you, that's there problem. Regardless of what they say, if you weren't so fantastic, no one would have anything to say. Discussion over.

  58. 58

A lot of people were very excited for Coby when we heard talkshows where Boy George said he was Cobys"manager" and that Coby was going on tour as his opening act, and we saw them performing together in England, so when he came back and these things didn't happen, his fan base wondered…As a fan of Coby's I'm glad I finally know what happened, but not so surprised when I hear things BG's done to other people when they refuse to be his boyfriend(at least he untied you)…The bottom line is Coby just let us know now what really happened, because HIS fans wanted to know. Their argument obviously wasn't about Coby's stellar voice and range, or BG wouldn't have had him recording in the studio or announcing his management of Coby. Think Coby took the high road after reading the above, and if you put their talents side by side Coby doesn't need that old has been anyway. NYC will choose Coby over BG any day, one of the most moving and unique voices to come about, which is how Coby got "discovered" in the first place. Just listen to Coby's music and you'll see why anyone who hears him becomes a fan, even BG's fans did, and that might have been another part of the problem. Thanks for clarifying it for us Coby! Now maybe he'll finally pay you.

  59. 59

  60. 60

I know Coby personaly. He is one of the most gifted and talented people in the music business. Coby was devestated after what George did to him. I'am very happy that Coby is finally talking about it. TEAM COBY!!!!!!

  61. @v@ says – reply to this

Geebus. George was reportedly involved in a similar tawdry peccadillo in the UK a few years back. What you give out, you get back. His comeback won't happen if he pulls this kind of shiz.

  62. @v@ says – reply to this

On 5 December 2008, George was convicted in Snaresbrook Crown Court, London, of the assault and false imprisonment of Audun Carlsen. Some of the transcripts were eye popping. Even if he isn't up to some old tricks, it could still look that way. I like some of his music, so keeping his nose clean would be good.

  63. 63

Boy George not only stole his art, he threw him on the street because he wouldn't do what he wanted him to. Personally, If someone stole my art and was making money off of it, I would find him and snatch the life out of him. He is immature (George) and full of himself. He was dated the moment his music came to light. He hasn't done anything substantial in years, besides being in the press for notorious stupid decisions, and now he decideds to trash someone elses career. George needs to move the hell on and give Coby back HIS music. HE made it, not Boy Loser. And to his so desperate clinging fans who cant let go of a has been…don't trash coby and automatically take his side because you think Boy George is a saint. Cuz he aint. And what he did was wrong. I am not gonna sit here and bash him, however he needs to do the right thing. And Boy George sucks. btw

  64. 64

Here's the deal. Plain and Simple.

I don't personally know Boy George or Coby Koehl. What I can tell you is this:

I was working on a show production with Junior a few years back when I met another gent by the name of Jerome Farley. I later made contact with Jerome (an exceptional remixer/producer) and then found out about Coby through a dance music track called Muthafucka. The track was slamming and I immediately introduced myself to Coby. As far as he could have been concerned, I was a NOBODY. Did he treat me like a NOBODY? NO. He welcomed me with wide open arms and even let me use his unreleased track on a club mix compilation for a major DJ competition for Gay Internet Radio Live, all because I showed the same amount of passion for music as he and every other artist who has a love for the MUSIC.

  65. 65

Anyway, it's too bad because I remember when all this was coming forward and Coby only put forward the most amazing amounts of gratitude towards what Boy George was doing for him. It seems to be both men will go their separate ways and both will be just fine. It's a shame though because I really thought the two of them could have done great things together! Wouldn't it be wonderful if both men could swallow their pride, not enforce their artistic freedoms upon one another, come back to the table and make beautiful things happen. There are many, many songs to sing. Don't throw it all away because of such a silly disagreement. Best of Luck to both artists.
